The Position:
We are ideally seeking a Mixed Animal Veterinarian but are happy to hear from Small Animal Veterinarians.

Experienced Veterinarians and New Graduates are welcome to apply.

Our ideal candidate would have some mixed practice experience, though we would certainly consider an experienced vet with a small animal focus or the right new graduate who is keen to learn and provide great service to our clients. Our vets are all experienced and comfortable mentoring new graduates.

You would be very well supported, working alongside our very experienced Principal Vet, 2 experienced part-time vets, 6 nurses and two junior nurses.

The hours and days can be flexible. Clinic hours are 9am-6pm Monday-Friday and 9am -12pm Saturday. We provide after-hours care for our clients.

We require you to assist us with small animal medical and surgical cases (soft tissue/routine) along with large animal medicine and occasional surgery if that is your preference.

We need you to have excellent communication skills and a friendly and supportive attitude.

ALBURY, NSW/VIC BORDER - SMALL ANIMAL

Seeking a PT veterinarian to join our team.

Experienced Senior Veterinarian
Very supportive hospital, seeking like minded Veterinarian
2-3 days per week, fair share of after-hours and on call is required, including rotational Saturdays.
Team consulting for optimal support
Minimum 5 years' clinical experience (up to $130,000 pro-rata)
Capable of supporting new graduate and more junior vets with surgical and medical cases.

A bit about us:
Our hospital is 5 years old this year and we have enjoyed a welcomed response from the community and have a well-established and lovely client base. We have 3 senior vets with different areas of expertise, who complement each other very well, as well as 2 other recent/new grad (2023) on the team. We operate on a 2-3 vets per day basis currently.

We start each day off with a ‘morning huddle’, where all team members have a look at the schedule for the day, share a daily win we have had and ensure clarity in everyone’s roles for that day.

Currently we have rostered surgery days where you will do surgery in the morning and consult in the afternoon and consulting days. When you join us and are comfortable, we have the capacity to increase surgery to 2 vets per day as we have separate dog and cat surgery rooms. Our surgery caseload is varied and across the board with routine and non-routine

Our consults are mostly 30 minutes, giving you time to get to know clients, do a thorough examination and discuss treatment plans. We have an experienced support team, including a dedicated receptionist, senior nurses and trainee nurses. We support the nursing team’s growth by getting them to do as much as they can so you can focus on vet work.

We are currently seeking an experienced PT vet who would work 2-3 days per week, 8am-6pm. After hours is evenly shared – currently each vet does one night per week and one weekend in 4. Call outs are very minimal, manageable, and very lucrative. It is expected that you would contribute fairly to the after hours roster. We utilise Vet Chat as a teletriage in the first instance, so you are only being asked to answer phone calls when they have been deemed an emergency. The teletriage system has seen a 70% drop in our after hours phone call disturbances to the vet on call.

A little bit about our hospital
We are currently a daytime GP hospital with a vet on call for afterhours, but we are investigating options of having a night shift. This is an area we hope to grow into. This would open up the possibility for emergency work, which is very different to daytime GP work. We are very excited about this possibility, but don’t have any concrete details to share, except to fully inform any applicant that this could be something coming to our hospital.

Ongoing CPD and team training:
This is critical for everyone in the team. We advocate for ongoing learning with regular team training and refresher training, practice membership to VIN, Vet Education webinars and ISFM. You will also be supported with a study allowance of $1500 PA and 1 week study leave per year all pro-rata.

We have monthly nurse and vet meetings to ensure smooth flow of hospital procedures and discuss projects we are working on. We hold a Team meeting quarterly where we close the clinic and discuss non-clinical training.

Teaching:
We pride ourselves on being a hospital, that advocates training and teaching, generally hosting veterinary nursing students and vet students where we can. Once you have found your feet, we would love for you to teach others, as teaching is also an amazing confidence building experience and really gets you comfortable with the content.

A little bit about Albury-Wodonga:
The clinic is located in Albury (Lavington) but the area is generally referred to as Albury-Wodonga. Albury being located on the NSW side of the Murray River and twin sister city - Wodonga being located on the Victorian side. Together the area offers great out-of-work lifestyle opportunities, many outdoor places to explore, in winter the snow fields are only an hour or so away. It is a large enough city to have all of your major shops and services, but small enough to still have that country feeling.

YARRAM, SOUTH EAST GIPPSLAND - MIXED ANIMAL PRACTICE New Position

Full-Time Veterinarian

We are excited to offer an opportunity for the position of veterinary surgeon in our expanding practice within the Gippsland region of Victoria.

The practice is long established having serviced the district for more than 40 years. Over the past 5 years, new leadership has seen an update in approach to animal health and services offered. This has culminated in the opening of our brand new clinic in August 2024. The spacious clinic boasts 3 consulting rooms, expansive treatment area, pathology suite, imaging centre, recovery rooms, two surgical theatres offering general and orthopaedic procedures including endoscopy & arthroscopy.

Being regionally based, the practice offers diverse services to both small animal and large animals, with the case load being split approximately 50/50 between these two categories (large animal component being predominantly dairy). The expectation is that the successful applicant will provide services across the entire mixed practice.

Our standard clinic hours are 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to noon on Saturdays by rotation. We also offer 24 hour emergency in clinic and in field services when clients require. A fully equipped car is provided to facilitate field visits.

About the position:

We are looking for a mixed animal veterinarian.
We treat companion animals as well as sheep, goats, cattle, horses, alpaca and pigs- we see some of everything and are a true mixed animal clinic. Our mix is approximately 80% small animal, 20% large animal.
We currently see a small percentage of equine clients but have scope to grow this area if you are interested.
This is a full-time position on a fixed term contract for 1 year (maternity leave coverage). Potential exists for an ongoing position after the year.
Shared afterhours with 1 night a week and 1 weekend in 4 on call. There is a light on call caseload and all calls go through our VetTriage team which means the nurses take the calls and only ring you if needed and deposit has been taken!
All duties in our clinic are shared equally with the team. We enjoy great teamwork and have a fantastic group of supportive vets and nurses.

About you:

You are a vet who enjoys the challenge of general practice; comfortable going from vaccinations to working up of more complex cases, to routine surgery.
You are an experienced mixed animal vet.
Excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues and willingness to work as part of a team and a positive “can-do” attitude to enhance patient care and client experience.

About the Position:

As Clinical Lead you will be responsible for maintaining our patient care and driving our high clinical standards. This is a “hands-on” clinical role in a team of 6 Veterinarians
The position would suit a mixed or companion animal veterinarian keen to work in a mixed animal environment.

The workload is approximately 80% small animal and the rest a combination of horses, farm, hobby animals and small pets. Whilst we support referral, we often work up complex cases in house, seeing everything from snake bites, endocrine disorders, ophthalmic disease, to fractures, TPLOs, TECA BO, and laryngeal tie backs. The Large animal work includes colics, endocrine and laminitis work ups, equine dentistry, obstetrics (calvings, lambings, unpackings, kiddings), farm disease investigations and other government work. The clinic boasts all the mod cons including DR radiography and portable CR radiography, a MyLabX5 Ultrasound, in-house lab, full IM3 dental base with IM3 dental radiography, and endoscopy including video otoscope and flexible endoscopes including an equine bronchoscope and several smaller scopes.

The advertised position is for an associate vet, based on a 38 - 40 hour work week, with 1 in 4 after hours roster and rostered days off following on call weekends. A work vehicle and phone is supplied for call outs and after hours use.

The two principal veterinarians, Drs Liz and James are both keen to see the Maryborough Veterinary Practice achieve its full potential. Key to this is developing each individual’s skills in veterinary science, communication, professionalism, respect and teamwork.

Dr Liz and Dr James have a combined 28 years of experience and each have achieved membership of the ANZCVS (equine medicine and small animal surgery). They have extensive experience mentoring recent graduates and candidates preparing for ANZCVS membership.

Veterinarian – Dairy/Mixed Practice Northern Victoria

We are Cohuna Veterinary Clinic. We are a progressive, fully independent and locally owned practice of 3-4 vets. We seek to offer high quality and personalised veterinary services. We also prioritise looking after our staff and creating an engaging, positive and low-stress environment where everyone enjoys working together.

Our work is 50:50 large animals and small animals. A lot of the large animal work is dairy cattle. There is also plenty of equine and small ruminant work and scope to increase this side of the practice.

We are seeking a veterinarian with a minimum 12 months experience to come and work with us. Whether you want to focus on large animals, just do smallies, or do a mixture of both, we can make that work. A work vehicle will be provided if doing large animal work. Initial accommodation is available if needed, as well as a generous salary (up to $135k +). For the right person we can put together a very compelling package – just tell us what is important to you.

We provide 5 weeks annual leave plus 1 week study leave per year and continuing education is strongly encouraged. Clinic hours are 8:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (no Saturday mornings) and afterhours will be shared 1 in 3 or 4.

Wildlife Victoria is the state’s lead wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisation. Wildlife Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation, and we receive more than 130,000 requests for help a year and assist over 86,000 animals across 450 species.

The Wildlife Victoria Travelling Veterinary Service is Victoria’s first mobile veterinary service dedicated to the clinical care of native species both at the point of rescue in field, and in DEECA approved wildlife shelters. The service also provides veterinary response capabilities and expertise during Statewide emergencies and catastrophic events that affect wildlife, including bushfires, floods, heat-stress events and disease outbreaks.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced veterinarian with a passion for wildlife to join our Travelling Vet Service. The role will be based in the Warragul region. You will be part of a team of veterinarians and veterinary nurses on the road in a 4WD vehicle which is fully equipped with specialist and essential veterinary equipment including a mobile x-ray machine and mobile anaesthesia machine, to perform detailed assessments in-field.

You will respond to wildlife cases as a first responder in filed, as well as assist local shelters with ongoing clinical management of more complex cases of a variety of native species. You will be supported by a veterinary nurse each shift and have access to peer veterinary support both within and external to Wildlife Victoria. You will develop strong working relationships with affiliate veterinary practices within your response zone.

While wildlife medicine can be very fulfilling, this role will also involve humane euthanasia of severely injured or unwell animals as a frequent part of practice. It is important that candidates consider their preparedness for this aspect of the role.

You will be expected to participate in relevant training, and you may also be asked to train for work with, and integrate into, emergency response teams in times of natural disaster or other major emergency events impacting wildlife.

About You

Degree in Veterinary Science registrable in Victoria.

Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
Current Victorian Radiation Use Licence.
Vaccinated (or prepared to be vaccinated) for Rabies/Lyssavirus and Q fever.
Category C firearms license (or prepared to acquire one) for the purposes of tranquiliser darting of larger species.
Experience with captive bolt usage for in-field euthanasia (or prepared to undertake the necessary training).

About the GARS Surgery Service
The surgical department consists of five surgical specialists with a team of residents, interns and nurses who are supported by specialists in imaging, medicine, oncology and critical care to provide stellar patient care.

Our three operating theatres are truly enviable, overlooking the neighbouring golf course with each fully equipped with endoscopic towers, mono/bipolar electrocautery, suction and Bipolar Vessel Sealing Devices. Two of the theatres also have electric fluoroscopic tables to facilitate minimally invasive image guided neurologic, orthopaedic and interventional radiology procedures. We have multiple locking plate systems (LCP, SOP, Fixin) in all sizes from 1.5 to 4.5mm plus a complete speciality plate range (DPO, SHO, PCA, PanTA, ParTA, supracondylar etc). We also have Biomedtrix iLoc Interlocking nail system, IMEX circular and linear ESF in all sizes.

As Victoria’s leading joint replacement and resurfacing centre, we are the only site equipped and performing Biomedtrix THR (nano, micro, standard, giant and lateral bolt systems), Biomedtrix Total Elbow Replacement, Arthrex CUE, SynACART and Kyon PGR.

Position details

The surgery internship is designed to ensure you develop a deeper level of knowledge and competence in all areas of small animal surgery by the completion of the program.
Mentorship, training, support, and guidance provided by a dynamic group of Specialists (Surgery, Internal Medicine, Imaging, Oncology and Emergency and Critical Care) and a supportive team of nursing staff.
Involvement in daily hospital and medicine rounds, in-clinic tutorials and journal club
Mentorship and support for interns to pursue ANZCVS membership (if not already completed) and develop research projects is supported and encouraged.
Continuing education support, including attendance at conferences is supported and encouraged.
Guidance and support provided for applications to Residency programs, both within GARS, MARS and external institutions.

Barkly Street Vets is a mixed veterinary practice located in a medium sized rural town in NorthEast Victoria, approximately two hours from Melbourne.

The practice has been established and constantly growing over the past twelve years and is now looking to employ a fourth veterinarian on either a full time or part time basis.

The clinic currently has one part time and two full time veterinarians of varying levels of experience, who would happily support and mentor a new/recent graduate.

A “small animal only” veterinarian role can also be negotiated if preferred. The current caseload is approximately 50% small animal, 35% beef and dairy cattle, 15% horses, and some sheep and alpaca, however the workload can be tailored to suit the individual’s preference.

Our equine clientele are mostly pleasure horse owners as there is a major equine hospital close by. The small animal clinic equipment and facilities have been recently expanded due to growth in this part of the business. We have an in-house laboratory, digital xray, dental and orthopaedic equipment and high quality ultrasound.

We are currently not offering an after hours service, but this may change in the future.
