Experience and Qualifications:

About Your Role:
You will be an integral part of our medical and surgical Nursing Team, helping to ensure the days run smoothly and that patients receive a high level of care. Our Nursing Team work within a rotational roster and start at varying times to ensure adequate nursing cover and to build skills across all areas of the hospital.

About this role
Our surgical coordinator will lead and mentor our team of surgical nurse superstars. They will collaborate with the team and other departments in an efficient and respectful manner to achieve the best possible outcome for all animals in care. They will work closely with the Practice Manager and Clinical Director to create a high-performing team. They will provide Induction, training, and continual development of nursing staff within their department including performing regular performance appraisals of department nurses. They will Coordinate the surgery team including rostering, and assisting with the operations and procedure schedules. Support the surgical nurses development through mentoring and the personal development review process. Be the go-to for all surgical nursing operational matters and standards of care. The coordinator will assist in the planning and set up of our new theatre suite in a purpose-built hospital that we will be moving to in 2023.
Our surgical team works in a very fast-paced environment and acts as the patient advocate – ensuring each and every surgical patient receives optimal care, from admission through to discharge. Our amazing team consists of 5 vets and 12 nurses with an average of 3 vets and 6 nurses daily on various shifts. Our ‘boss’ is a very demanding ginger cat who thinks the entire team’s main role is to supply chicken treats and pats whenever he commands it. He may be just a little spoilt!
Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Providing support to our veterinarians and patients in all aspects of veterinary nursing including surgical prep, anaesthetic monitoring, blood draws, IV catheter placement, running inhouse bloods and assisting with radiology.
- Admission and discharge of patients
- Animal husbandry to ensure we are providing an excellent level of patient care to every pet.
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness around the hospital
- Reception Duties and maintaining a high level of customer service (we have dedicated receptionists but ask ours nurses to jump in to help where needed).
