QUEANBEYAN, ACT/NSW BORDER - SMALL ANIMAL
Hi vets! Queanbeyan Veterinary Hospital is looking for a new vet to join our team.
Why Queanbeyan? We are a fantastic, friendly, and inclusive practice. Our clientele are lovely, and usually keen to fully work up cases, so you can practice medicine to a satisfyingly high standard. As part of the Capital Paws Group we have access to a wide network of vets with different special interest areas who are always keen to help. We have sonographers, surgeons, behaviourists, dentists and medicine gurus, a rabbit vet and reptile enthusiasts, among others. Whatever your question or interest there is someone to talk to. We have regular social and continuing education catch ups, and the level of collegiality is second to none. Our group is encouraging and supportive of continuing education, and skills development. If you're interested, we would love you to get involved with the group's animal health programmes in indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.
The Capital Paws partners are local vets who work in our hospitals and are dedicated to work life balance for everyone. The practices are extremely family friendly. We are open on Saturday mornings, but the rest of the weekend is our own. On our normal full-time roster we all have a regular weekday off. Management is really flexible though, if you have only specific hours you can work, please get in touch and discuss it with us.
Please click here to see photos!
What about the bells and whistles? Our clinics are delightfully well equipped with in house DR radiography, dental radiography, a great ultrasound machine (and in-house sonographer) and tonometry as some of our many handy tools.
What about the after hours? No after hours! We're so lucky in Canberra to have two emergency centres at night time and on the weekends, and the specialist centre just down the road from us. Out of hours, knowing our patients are in good hands.
Why the Canberra region? Canberra is honestly an undiscovered gem of a place to live. There is so much culture and beautiful outdoor space. As the capital, and home of all the embassies, the vibe is much more cosmopolitan than you might expect for a city of this size. We are convenient to the mountains and South Coast, and it is honestly so easy to dash to other places, such as Sydney, for a visit. The climate is beautiful and the air is fresh. You can get anywhere in town in under an hour! Coming with a family? This is an excellent city to raise kids, there are so many things to do (and if you join us, you're welcome to ask me about them!) Coming as a new grad? This is a lively city full of young professionals.
Who should apply? If you are a small animal vet with a love of providing high quality care, and this ad speaks to you, we would love to hear from you. Whether you are a new grad or an experienced hand, I am sure you will appreciate our warm and supportive environment.
We are committed to providing support and mentoring for our new grads, and generally being an encouraging team for all staff across the group.

Testimonial - CSU Graduate – Dr Natalie, Veterinarian
Back in 2016, I was recommended to do a rotation at Gungahlin Vet Hospital for additional clinical experience by a coordinator at CSU. I stayed for one week, and hurried back again the next year when I had a spare rotation to fill. GVH/GCH has changed a lot since then. We have a purpose build Cat Hospital including cat theatre and ward, new laboratory, and extensions for staff and offices upstairs. We work alongside a separate emergency team who compassionately care for our night and weekend patients. A lot has changed since those rotations in 2016-17, but one thing has stayed the same. I’ve never wanted to leave! I’ve worked at GVH/GCH since graduation bar some overseas and temporary stints, and that’s a credit to the wonderful team I’m surrounded by, and gold standard care the hospital allows me to practice. I enjoy my work, my team, the support shown for all staff, and admire the passion for ongoing learning and betterment that the team exudes.
