Brindabella Veterinary Referral Service (BVRS) is offering a rare and exciting opportunity for an aspiring surgeon to join our expanding referral team in Canberra. This is a 12-month, full-time internship in Small Animal Surgery, ideally commencing as soon as possible.
About Us
BVRS is a surgery focused referral service led by Dr Fiona Coghill, a Fellow of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. Our practice sees a diverse range of surgical cases including orthopaedic, soft tissue, neurologic, and oncologic surgeries. The practice does not operate after hours or on weekends, which ensures our team have adequate time for life balance, as well as study and research.
Our hospital is equipped with advanced surgical and diagnostic tools including:
- Arthroscopy
- Laparoscopy
- Digital radiography
- Synthes TPLO and LCP Plating systems

We operate within Capital Paws Group, a cooperative of independently owned veterinary practices in the Canberra region. The Role
You'll work alongside our surgical specialist and registrar, supported by an experienced and highly skilled nursing team. The internship involves:
- Assisting in consultations, surgical procedures, diagnostics, and patient management
- Performing and assisting with imaging procedures (radiography, CT) after training and licensing
- Involvement in anaesthesia and post-operative care
- Scrubbed surgical assistance
- Preparing surgical reports, inpatient records, and client/referring vet communications
- Participation in weekly surgery rounds and journal clubs

THOROUGHBRED PARK, NORTH CANBERRA - EQUINE AMBULATORY
Equine Veterinarian
Canberra Racetrack and Equestrian Services is currently seeking an equine veterinarian to joint our 3-vet practice based in Canberra. Canberra is a large city with a population of approximately 500,000 located less than 3hours from Sydney and 2 hours from the coast and the snow. The city itself has undergone a transformation in recent years and boasts first class restaurants, schools and educational, cultural and sporting facilities.
The Practice
CRES is a well established practice with a large client base located close to Canberra Racetrack. We currently service clients at the Canberra and nearby Queanbeyan racetracks as well as several equestrian centres. The practice will move into a purpose built facility which includes a surgical theatre with knock down/recovery room, a treatment area with stocks, as well as hospital boxes and yards. The practice is fully equipped with digital X-ray, ultrasound, portable and video endoscope, gastroscope, shockwave and thermography.
The veterinarian will be supported by 3 experienced equine vets as well as ancillary staff as required.
The Position
A veterinarian with an interest and experience in racing, surgery and lameness would be advantageous. The role will be 5 days per week with no after hours. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience but above industry norm with 4 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave. A fully equipped and insured car, mobile phone will be provided.
The practice is a subsidiary of the Crown Group which has similar practices in Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast. Clients include highly respected racing identities and FEI registered competition horses and venues.
The Practice is an Academic Associate Practice with the University of Melbourne, and in addition has veterinary students seeing practice from international veterinary schools as well as the other Universities in Australia.

We are seeking a new graduate Veterinarian to work at our well-equipped veterinary hospital in Weston Creek (Canberra).
The days are varied and interesting covering a range of small animal medicine and surgery, including:
- Client consultations and working with nurses on nurse triage patients

The Role
We are seeking a full-time experienced Veterinarian to work at our well-equipped veterinary hospital in Weston Creek (Canberra).
The days are varied and interesting covering a range of small animal medicine and surgery, including:
- Client consultations and working with nurses on nurse triage patients
- Basic surgeries but an interest in more advanced surgery is encouraged and welcomed (experienced vet mentor available)
- Dentistry including extractions
- Radiography; including dental (both digital)
- Ultrasonography (ultrasound skills are ideal, but experienced vet mentor available if you want to learn)
- Interpretation of onsite Idexx lab results
There are no afterhours or on call shifts, we work on a rotating roster (38h week) where you will only work 1 in 4 Saturdays.
About you
Necessary qualities the successful Veterinarian will need to possess:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Veterinary Degree registerable in the ACT
- Excellent communication skills and presentation
- Warm and Friendly personality with a professional and positive ‘can do’ attitude
- Organised, motivated and efficient with an attention to detail
- The ability to work well and contribute within a team
- Caring & compassionate

We are located in Weston Creek an easy half hour drive from anywhere in Canberra, with free parking onsite. There’s local shops and cafes in walking distance of the hospital and a neighbourhood oval right next door.
