BELCONNEN - SMALL ANIMALS New Graduates welcome

Have you heard about Capital Paws Veterinary Group in Canberra?

We are a co-operative of locally owned and operated vet practices, with an approach to veterinary life that is totally unique.

We are currently looking for a vet to join our Kippax Veterinary Hospital team (but do look out for ads at our sister practices and consider coming to Canberra with a friend!!)  We have recently completed a renovation giving us more space in the clinic and the capacity to expand our hospital to better service the increasing demand for veterinary services.

We are very keen to invite the 2022/2023 New Graduates to apply. We have a large team of experienced vets to support our new graduates and love all the modern concepts that new graduates can introduce to our practice.
We are very excited to now be able to offer a more structured new graduate program. This includes one day rostered off clinics a month to rotate through the clinics upskilling in various areas depending on where the expertise is, new graduate lunch times rounds on a monthly basis with other new and recent graduates in our group and a formalised mentoring program.  We will pay above award and also help with some of the initial costs to get started in your career. We work hard to ensure that our organisation is a very safe and supportive place for you to begin what we belief is a wonderful job.

We would of course, welcome anyone with experience to apply as well. We would love to have you contribute your expertise to our clinic as well as develop any other areas of interest that you have.  We have the capacity to offer extremely flexible working hours and are happy to consider people looking for either part-time or full time work.

At Capital Paws, we truly value our veterinary colleagues and have built practice teams that are rich with highly engaged, experienced vets who give excellent patient care, whilst enjoying satisfying and rewarding careers. We provide supportive environments for more recent graduates and offer genuine leadership opportunities for senior vets, up to and including partnership.

Please click here to see photos! photos

We currently have eight directors involved with Capital Paws, all of whom live in Canberra and work in our hospitals. Each of us are happy and content in our veterinary work and apart from looking after our patients, our greatest motivation is to provide excellent opportunities for our fellow vets and nurses to thrive in this rewarding vocation.
Each of the nine hospitals in our group has its own unique personality and is run as an individual practice, whilst enjoying the benefits of a broader network of colleagues, equipment, systems, and facilities. We have vets with a wide range of special interests including, behaviour, surgery, imaging, dentistry, exotics, internal medicine (radioactive iodine ward), dermatology, physiotherapy and practice management.  These skills are readily shared across the practices and allow for mentorship in just about any area of interest.  Outside of clinical support, we also provide guidance when it comes to work/life balance and how to manage stress and anxiety - skills that are so important in our industry.
If you come to work with us, we can cater to your strengths and interests by finding a role that is the right fit for you. Given that each of our practice owners has a family, we are very flexible and understanding when it comes to working around the other commitments you have in life.

In joining us, you become a member of a diverse community of friendly vets with a wide range of clinical and life experience.  This has meant that we can have special interest groups in such areas as ultrasonography, medicine, and behaviour, however, also in tennis, trivia, mountain biking, rock climbing, bouldering, netball, bushwalking, skiing, back country snow sports and baking! We have an immediate social and professional network for you to become a part of.

Naturally, we are keen for you to engage in continuing education, which can range from the regular internal sessions that take place over beer and takeaway, through to support for study for memberships and everything in between.  In addition to conference fees, we also provide a daily allowance for travel and accommodation.

We use our skills and knowledge to contribute to organisations such as Pets in the Park, Domestic Violence Support, and local animal rescue organisations. We also run our own charitable organisation, “The Canberra Mob”, that provides animal health programs in indigenous communities in the Northern Territory. We undertake two NT trips each year and many of our vets and nurses have spent weeks doing desexing and parasite treatment programs in the remote locations that we visit
We believe that what we have to offer is unique in the Australian veterinary landscape.  At the moment, we are looking for a vet to join the 50 who currently make up our community. We would love to hear from you to further discuss the opportunity for you to contribute to our team, as we support you to develop your professional and personal interests.

Canberra is a terrific place to live. It is a beautiful city of lakes and natural bushland. We have the best network of walking, running and mountain bike trails in Australia. There are great restaurants and cafes, along with innumerable clubs catering to every lifestyle interest. Many of our vets spend summer weekends at the south coast and winter weekends at the snow, and there is no better place for bringing up kids!

We encourage you to look at the websites, Facebook and Instagram pages for Kippax Veterinary Hospital, Kaleen Veterinary Hospital, Molonglo Veterinary Clinic, Weston Woden Animal Hospital, Manuka Veterinary Hospital, Queanbeyan Veterinary Hospital, Jerrabomberra Veterinary Hospital The Village Vet and Googong Veterinary Centre.

Team Member Testimonial.
Working at WQVH has been everything I hoped for in my New Graduate job. Whilst being busy and challenged (during the very challenging year of 2020!), I have been supported every step of the way both personally and in my professional development. The hours are very fair and the salary is rewarding. Additionally, I have been able to manage a great work life balance this year, which is not something many Veterinarians can say! As a team, we believe in evidence-based learning and providing exceptional care. We fulfil this ethos by regularly updating our equipment and facilities and having regular staff meetings to improve our protocols. I know I will continue to grow as a Veterinarian and as a person at this practice. WQVH is not just a vet clinic but a fun, supportive community who care tremendously about clients, their pets and anything else that comes through the doors. I would choose WQVH ten times over and recommend it to any new graduate or experienced vet.

Lead Vet

A Lead Vet who enjoys unicorn snacks need only apply!

4-year-old Co-Located clinic.

A small cohesive team that has worked together for many years.

Opportunity to put your mark on this practice.

About the Opportunity

We have just celebrated our fourth birthday in our new location that we share with PetBarn.

Sadly, our current Vet Director is leaving for a new adventure, and we are looking for someone just as awesome to join our team. We are a small team with three nurses and one other part-time Vet.

We are in Majura Park, so we do see a lot of transient clients and their fur kids from the military base, alongside clients who live in the neighbouring suburbs. Our clients are supportive of us working up our cases to ensure that their pets receive the best veterinary care.

Due to our growing client base, we are looking for a Vet Director to join us on a full-time basis. We would love someone who enjoys mentoring, as we'd love to bring on a graduate next year to our team.

About our Team and Culture

We have an awesome Practice Manager who is like our second mum, she looks after us well, and she has a Unicorn snack stash that she willingly shares with us! What more could we want?

We are a cohesive and hard-working team amongst all the fun and laughter. We like to learn and continue developing our skills, so we have a regular lunch and learn team session to help build our skills and knowledge.

And when it comes to genuine love for animals, we have that too…while our patients are mainly dogs and cats, any spiders, lizards, and other wildlife that finds their way into our clinic will be kindly rehomed

The Benefits

As part of Greencross Vets, we provide the highest quality of integrated veterinary services in Australia, with an extended network of General Practice clinics and state-of-the-art Emergency, Specialist and Referral hospitals steered by a team of world-class Vets devoted Specialists, skilled nurses and supportive Management. Relocation Support Package available to interstate and international veterinarians.
We are an accredited Sponsor with Immigration and can support your Employer nominated Work and PR visas.

AMAROO, NORTHERN CANBERRA - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

SMALL ANIMAL VETERINARIAN
(EXPERIENCED OR NEWLY GRADUATED)

Full Time / Part Time

NO AFTER-HOURS OR WEEKENDS!!

Don’t just settle just for good money, lots of holidays, and good caseload - choose a workplace where you will also feel happy to walk through the door each day! All our staff love coming to work. We respect and support each other and treat each other with kindness. See educated and motivated clients who want the very best for their small friends and be encouraged to work up cases and take them through from initial presentation to resolution. If this sounds like the kind of place you would enjoy being a part of then you will be pleased to know that Small Friends Veterinary Hospital has a job available!

Please click here to see photos! photos

Why work for Small Friends?

You would be working in a positive, kind and happy environment with a qualified and professional team, all of whom truly enjoy their work, and a caring boss whose first priority is always his staff. We have a very low staff turnover – tangible proof of a truly happy workplace – and happy, well supported and supportive nurses who make a vet’s job a dream!

You will work in a small, very clean and modern veterinary hospital with a dedicated surgical theatre, digital x-ray and ultrasound and in-house pathology suite. You will see educated and motivated clients who want the very best for their furry family members. Your roster will allow (and your boss will encourage) a great work life balance and each day at work will offer an interesting mix of consulting, treatment and surgical responsibilities. As a respected member of our friendly team you will have the opportunity to develop a close working relationship with our loyal clients and their small friends, whilst being encouraged to work up cases and take them through from initial presentation to resolution.

You will be well supported and mentored in your day-to-day work. If you are a new graduate, we want to assist you to gain confidence, learn new skills and to share with you our love of the veterinary profession. Our performance appraisals are all about you gaining confidence and us being able to provide the right support, not about us filling the coffers - we will never set consultation charge targets. We encourage, and our clients expect, a sound, scientific and sensible approach to all cases.

The position also offers spacious and newly-furnished accommodation should you require it.

Why work in Canberra?

Yes, those primary school trips to Parliament House really did Canberra no favours, but there is a lot more to this place than politicians and Floriade! With all the sunshine (even in the winter) it is a great place to live. We have excellent restaurants, world-class galleries and museums, many award-winning wineries, great shopping, a wide network of cycle paths, and thriving sporting and performing arts scenes. We even get an extra two public holidays here each year!  Are you a foodie? Email us for a no strings attached care package from Canberra…we’d love to show off our local produce and give you a taste of what you can experience living in our city.

As a new grad vet I was very nervous to start my new job and move to a new city – 4 years on I’m so glad I did! Small Friends has been such a supportive environment, allowing me to grow and learn new techniques with somebody ‘having my back’ if I ever need it. Moving to Canberra from Melbourne has also been great. I love living in Canberra – it has all the benefits of a major city without the traffic and some really gorgeous countryside (and great wineries) just a few minutes drive away! Dr Sally

What kind of person are we looking for?

We are looking for a friendly pet owner who truly enjoys helping clients and their small friends. Our successful applicant will appreciate the important role all our staff play in the service we provide, care about delivering excellent customer service, possess excellent communication skills, the desire to exceed client expectations and be well presented. You want a workplace that considers mental health and workplace happiness first priorities.
