MCLAREN VALE, SOUTH OF ADELAIDE - SMALL ANIMAL
New Position
Full-Time or Part-Time Veterinarian wanted
What are you looking for in your Veterinary career?
Family Pet Vet McLaren Vale is looking for an additional full-time veterinarian to grow its current vet team. Situated 45 minutes from the city on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula, McLaren Vale is best known for its outstanding wineries, breweries and restaurants. The area is fantastic for families with wide open spaces and great schools but also close to forests and national parks, with amazing beaches a stone’s throw away.
We are part of a progressive team providing gold standard care for our patients. The head veterinarian has a keen interest in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery so we upgraded our equipment and facilities to accommodate this, adding to our already purpose-built modern facilities. Gold standard dental treatment was also a priority so we made sure we had a great DR dental radiograph suite and dental machinery. Other toys we enjoy to play with include digital x-rays, flexible endoscopes, high-quality ultrasound, Bair huggers, anaesthetic monitors and more. We have a keen interest in building on staff’s special interests to make sure they come to work every day, excited to learn, work and develop skills for the rest of their careers.
About the job:
- We work a 38-hour week, with shifts spread over 4 days
- Each 9.5-hour shift includes a paid lunch break
- Saturday morning shifts are shared between the Vets, with the clinic is only open from 9-12
- NO Sunday or after-hour work is required
- Pay is well above award
- Career development and progression in specific areas of interest is strongly encouraged and CPD allowance is provided to support this
- Working in a family-owned clinic, with a passionate team of vets and nurses.
So, what are you looking for? Do you have an area you would like to develop? Or do you want to do a great job, for 38 hours a week, and have a great life and hobbies outside of work? Even though we see a lot of the standard veterinary consultations we are in a semi-rural area so there is a lot of the weird and wonderful as well. The position is ideally full-time but part-time vets are encouraged to apply.
To apply, please contact us at philliphpearson@gmail.com or call on 08 8323 8522
LONSDALE, ADELAIDE SOUTH - SMALL ANIMAL
Veterinarian
RSPCA is Australia’s best known and most respected animal welfare organisation that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection, caring for over 9,000 animals in South Australia every year. These sick, injured, or unwanted animals are provided with shelter, food, veterinary care and behaviour modification in a process that results in animals suitable for new homes.
By joining RSPCA South Australia, you will be provided with rewarding opportunities not found in traditional practices including involvement with our Inspectorate function, assisting with the legal prosecution pursuant to the animal welfare legislation. You will also have community involvement in terms of educating and promoting positive animal welfare outcomes including issues such as population control measures. You will also work closely with other teams in the shelter on a daily basis to provide advice and expertise to assist with the rehabilitation and rehoming of animals.
Whilst an important part of what we do is desexing, we also have a surgical focus and utilising the latest digital technologies (x ray and ultrasound) to ensure the best possible outcomes for animals in our care. This role will broaden your exposure to animal welfare, whilst providing the opportunity to utilise and master your surgical and medical skills with a diverse case load.

Our Vet Services team service hours are currently 8.30am until 5pm with only occasional weekend work on a roster basis. This role also has little contact with animal owners as majority of the animals are RSPCA animals. We also understand that the foundation for our success is our team and we happily invest in your development and any specialities that they may be interested in pursuing to support your professional growth.
Benefits and perks:
- 40% discount off Royal Canin pet food.

Strathalbyn is just 50 minutes from Adelaide, and is a growing town, with a strong sporting reputation. There are regular country-style markets, antique shops (one of our google reviewers helpfully commented on our “lovely antiques”). There are beautiful heritage buildings in the historic main streets and you can enjoy brunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants. Or you can take a stroll through the picturesque parklands on the banks of the River Angas to feed the ducks. Strathalbyn is next door to the boutique Langhorne Creek wine region and Fleurieu Peninsula, where you can experience breathtaking beaches or sample the region’s award-winning wine at many of the cellar doors. LONSDALE, ADELAIDE SOUTH - SMALL ANIMAL - CHIEF VET New Position
RSPCA Chief Veterinarian
This is a truly unique opportunity to have a profound impact on animal care and welfare in South Australia. Managing a veterinary team of 16 staff (10.6FTE) caring for over 9,000 animals a year, while acting as lead expert witness in RSPCA’s Animal Welfare Act prosecutions and providing key input into the organisation’s negotiations with government on animal related legislation, the role has a diverse range of high-level responsibilities.
We are looking for a senior, experienced veterinary professional with high level organisational and people management skills, and proven capability in leading an engaged and committed team. A record of driving change through continuous improvement creating an efficient veterinary care operation will be highly regarded.
RSPCA’s vet services provide care for a wide range of animals with a focus on cats, dogs and other small animals. While we currently have a well-resourced clinic with modern diagnostic and surgical equipment, this role will also lead RSPCA’s transition to our new $26 Million Animal Care Campus with a custom-built veterinary centre incorporating South Australia’s first large scale native animal hospital. This major expansion into providing 24/7 veterinary care for wildlife will see another 8,000 animals cared for every year from January 2024.
With no private practice, shelter medicine certainly offers some attractive benefits of less contact with clients and more regular work hours, although some weekend and afterhours work will be required. RSPCA is offering an attractive and competitive remuneration depending on your clinical experience and knowledge. We also understand that the foundation for our success is our team and we happily invest in your development and any specialities that they may be interested in pursuing to support your professional growth.

We offer veterinary work in all its forms including small animal, pocket pets, wildlife, equine (including reproduction), beef cattle and sheep. We do quite a bit of surgery including orthopaedics. We encourage some specialisation in an area that would interest you.
We are incredibly lucky in that our main clinic located in Naracoorte is purpose built and equipped with a dedicated surgery & wet prep area, separate dog and cat wards, isolation ward, IDEXX Laboratory suite, digital x-ray, Ultrasound, and endoscope. Our second clinic is a small, satellite clinic located in Penola which also consists of both small animal and large animal clientele.
We are a 4-5 vet, 7-8 nurse team and offer super flexible working days. There is some afterhours which is usually 1 week night per week and approximately 1 in 4 weekend roster.
We have a highly supportive culture that celebrates diversity of practice, encourages confidence by positive mentorship, does not do KPI’s, puts staff first but recognises the value of our community and how we can best service them.
What we can offer you:
- A varied, rewarding role of mixed animal practice or a more tailored caseload can be provided for the ideal applicant
- A strong, supportive team environment
- Training and professional opportunities including paid study leave
- Remuneration will be commensurate with experience
- A safe and beautiful part of the world to live in
Naracoorte and Penola are located in the beautiful wine region of South Australia with Coonawarra, Wrattonbully and Padthaway all within 30 minutes of our clinics. We are 60 minutes away from the beaches of Robe and Beachport and we are 2.5hrs away from the Grampians. We also boast the spectacular World Heritage Listed Naracoorte Caves which are well worth a visit.
