BUNDOORA, NE MELBOURNE, VIC - SMALL ANIMAL - GRADUATE PROGRAM Sponsorship prospects New Position

Bundoora Veterinary Hospital – ASAVA Accredited Hospital
Bundoora, Victoria

Bundoora Veterinary Hospital would like to invite expressions of interest in our annual new graduate program for 2023.

We are predominantly a general practice, but offer urgent and emergency care as well. The new graduate position is a full-time, day-time, GP role, and only 7 shifts per fortnight.

If you would like an opportunity to consolidate your hard-earned theoretical knowledge into practical application and skills as quickly as possible in a highly supportive environment, this is the place for you. We aim to provide a fulfilling work environment – one that gives you a great grounding in all aspects of small animal work.

New graduates always compare their first two years of practice with each other, and our graduates proclaim they are seeing and doing more than their counterparts. It is not uncommon for our vets to become proficient in dealing with snake envenomations, diabetic ketoacidotics, foreign body surgeries and more within 12 months, under the nurturing environment that Bundoora Veterinary Hospital provides. You can see what our new and recent graduates are up to in the photos.  The great thing is that these cases come in during the day and at night. So even though this is a day-time role you will get to see great cases during your shift when you have at least four other vets rostered on to help you. You will then transfer the care of these cases to the next shift.

Therefore, there is no afterhours work.

Please click here to see photos! photos

As a GP facility you will also see routine cases: vaccinations, preventative health care, desexings, skin disease and mildly unwell animals. It’s just a great mix, to keep things interesting and your skills progressing, in all areas. If you decide emergency work is for you, there are opportunities to pursue this as well.

Many of our vets have gone on to procure internship positions and specialisation (medicine, surgical, imaging and emergency), which is a little unfortunate for us, as we then need to replace them, but great for them and you!

Remuneration for this position is highly competitive.

If you would like to hear more about working with us, please contact our practice manager, Libby Perkins.

The Opportunity

The rotating internship is a strongly mentored program where you will progress your EBVM and clinical skills working alongside a large team of specialists, experienced GPs and out of hours vets and specialty nurses. You will receive regular didactic teaching in the form of specialist led lectures and tutorials, regular CPR training, participate in journal club and case presentations. Applicants that are keen to publish research will also be supported throughout the year.

You will get to experience all of our available specialties by doing 6-month rotations in surgery, internal medicine and ECC. All of the teams have some overlap with the other specialties in our hospital so you will be exposed to their work as well. The role includes 1 in 3 weekends. The position includes four weeks annual leave and one-week conference leave as well as a generous study allowance.

About you

The ideal applicant will be motivated and always willing to learn and grow. Our aim is for you to keep as much out of the internship as possible. Good communication skills are essential. Above all else we value someone who is a team player; committed to our patients and is keen to be a part of our specialist team.

Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration in NSW. You will be rewarded with a generous salary & benefits that is reflective of the experience you bring to the position. We will support you with visa applications, Australian Veterinary Registration and provide you with tailored relocation support to suit your situation.

Applications should include curriculum vitae, a letter stating the reasons for seeking the internship, and the name and contact details of two-three referees.

Apply online or for more information, contact Victoria Nguyen from the Talent Acquisition Team on 0422882885 or victoria.nguyen@vet.partners. We are more than happy to arrange time for a discussion with our previous interns, so you can chat about what the job entails.

This full-time position offers a negotiable base salary range of $70,000 - $100,000 for a Veterinarian, with a mixed experience in Medicine and Surgery. The salary offered will be reflective of the suitable applicant’s skills and experience. Whilst VetPartners’ seeks to source applicants who meet the above criteria and skill set, alternative applicants may still be considered. In these cases, the base salary is subject to change to suit.

International veterinarians will be sponsored under VetPartners Australia PTY LTD.

We have a strong group of highly skilled veterinarians and nurses, many of whom have been with us long-term, and we are focused on providing career pathways and professional development for all our team members.
