JCU Vet is the Clinical Small Animal Teaching Hospital for James Cook University in Townsville. Our team is composed of specialists, membered veterinarians, general veterinarians, interns, Cert IV veterinary nurses, a radiographer, trainee nurses, animal nursing assistants, and veterinary receptionists. Together, we make up a large and diverse team of over 80 professionals.

Our internships focus on practical skill development that you can apply in your future career. Successful candidates will be involved in all areas of our teaching hospital, including emergency/critical care (ECC). Unlike many other internships, you have the option to develop your consulting and case management skills with short blocks in general practice, while still having access to the support and guidance of experienced clinicians and specialists.
We understand the concerns interns have regarding weekly hours. At JCU Vet, interns will work an average of 38 hours per week, with additional learning and training opportunities available both within and outside of these hours.
These exciting opportunities will commence in January 2025 for a 12-month period.
Internship Positions Available:
- ECC Internship: Build a depth of ECC clinical skills in a safe and supported role under the guidance of our Critical Care Specialist.

Expressions are now being sought for rotating internship positions for 2025 at Perth Veterinary Specialists!
As one of Western Australia’s longest running and largest specialist veterinary referral hospitals, we are seeking expressions of interest for potential applicants for its 2025 intake.
Our internship programme is highly regarded and will provide you with a rich learning experience in a specialist referral hospital, learning advanced skills in a positive and supportive environment. Of our previous interns, more than nine have become specialists or are currently in residencies, and others have taken up clinical University positions. Many of our rotating interns remain in stream specific programmes for a further 12 months.
Our large hospital has a broad range of specialists across various disciplines, including Anaesthesia, Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Oncology, Internal Medicine and Emergency and Intensive Care. We have two intern streams that are determined using a ballot system, so that we can prioritise according to your interest as much as possible.
Our specialists are experienced teachers, and we also run residency programs across multiple disciplines, affording the potential of a speciality career in later years.
The practice is in Osborne Park, a suburb 8km northwest of Perth’s CBD. The hospital has a wide range of surgical, medical and diagnostic tools including new state-of-the-art endoscopy, an imaging department with full cardiac and abdominal ultrasound capabilities, and on-site MRI and CT. We are home to the only Specialist Oncologists in the state.
A highly competitive salary including CPD allowance and study leave is on offer. Perth Veterinary Specialists is also proudly a member of the VetPartners Group of practices, and you will also be eligible for many additional benefits as part of the VetPartners team.

The Opportunity
NSVSC is looking for an enthusiastic veterinarian to join our specialist team for an 18-month internship. Throughout the internship, you will rotate through our Medicine, Surgery and Emergency and Critical Care specialist departments. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the specialists and support team to assist with case management, diagnostics, surgical interventions and hospital patient care.
About You
This position is suitable for candidates with at least 2 years veterinary experience who have an interest in starting the pathway towards specialisation, or for those looking to gain knowledge and skill within medicine, surgery and emergency and critical care.

SUCCESS, SOUTHERN PERTH, WA - SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY INTERNSHIP New Position
WAVES SURGERY INTERNSHIP 2025
Are you surgically orientated? Do you see a future where you specialise in surgery? Do you have the resolve to take the first step towards your future career?
WAVES surgical group in Perth is offering a 12 month surgical internship starting at the beginning of 2025. The position had been filled but the candidate has now withdrawn, so we are advertising again for this placement.
The position involves working within the Small Animal Surgery team under the guidance of our three specialist surgeons, surgery registrar and surgery resident, along with another surgical intern. You would be involved in many areas of surgical case management including general anaesthesia, diagnostic work ups and patient treatments. You would also have close interaction with our other specialists in the fields of emergency and critical care, radiology, anaesthesiology, dermatology and internal medicine. The position aims to help the successful candidate to further their knowledge, skills and hopefully future career.

Applicants must be enthusiastic and energetic with a positive attitude to work and learning. It is important that you are able to work closely and harmoniously with others. A minimum of one year’s prior experience in small animal practice and the desire to complete or prior completion of membership examinations with the ANZCVS are expected. You would also be involved in our journal club and encouraged to complete a publication during the internship.
All our interns have gone on to either further internships and/or residencies and we are very proud to have had the first of our interns now successfully work through the process to recently pass their FANZCVS exams.
Remuneration is based upon experience. These are fixed one year positions.

OSBORNE PARK, INNER NORTH PERTH - ONCOLOGY INTERNSHIP
Oncology Internship
Perth Veterinary Specialist is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic veterinarian to join the team as a Veterinary Oncology Intern.
The opportunity
This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the only dedicated oncology department in Western Australia. The intern would work directly with the only registered veterinary oncologists in Western Australia, an oncology registrar, and a team of experienced veterinary nurses. The internship provides exposure to a large and wide variety of oncological cases and treatment modalities, including electrochemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Key responsibilities:
- Assessment of patients for medical and radiation therapy, daily rounds presentation, treatment discussion and decision making.
- Assist in the safe administration of chemotherapy.
- Support oncology patients through required departments such as diagnostic imaging, surgery, and emergency.
- Participation in continuing education sessions and rounds, including inter-departmental journal club and rounds.
- Assisting in the training of the rotating intern and veterinary students
Qualifications:
- Qualified veterinarian with registration in Western Australia
- MANZCVS in Small Animal Medicine or current preparation would be preferred but not essential
- Sound knowledge base in small animal medicine with a strong interest in veterinary oncology
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, demonstrates initiative and committed to providing care of the highest standard.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work well under pressure
The internship commences late 2024 with the possibility of transition to a residency for the right applicant.

The Opportunity
NSVSC is looking for an enthusiastic Veterinarian with at least one year of experience to join our Emergency and Critical Care team for an internship.
This is a unique opportunity for motivated Veterinarians with an interest in pursuing further ECC training or who intend to sit memberships. In this position you will work directly with a Criticalist and be supported to provide care to our most critical patients. You will be guided to perform procedures and work with machines not commonly encountered in general practice.
Through the course of the year, you will have the opportunity to participate in teaching through journal club and intern specific lectures and book club. You will also be supported to sit your memberships (if appropriate) and the RECOVER initiative CPR training.

We are looking for a new Intern in Small Animal Internal Medicine to join our team.
This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a strong interest in small animal internal medicine to start an academic, research and/or clinical career in small animal internal medicine (e.g. residency). The Internship:
The Internship is a one-year fulltime (4.5 days per week) clinical position with a start date of early 2025. There will be a period of overlap with the current Medicine Interns, to provide support and guidance. The goal of the Internship is to give the Intern a deeper knowledge and gain experience within the field of small animal internal medicine. The Intern will be part of the Internal Medicine team, consisting of two board-certified internists (Natalie Watson and Narelle Brown) and another Medicine Intern.
The daily work will revolve around the participation in the small animal internal medicine service as well as providing collaborative care of the patients in hospital. This will include supporting in-hospital patient care, the anaesthesia and preparation of internal medicine patients, and assisting with consults and discharges.
About YOU – the awesome Intern:
We encourage applications from qualified vets with prior referral/specialist experience (e.g. rotating internship) as well as vets wanting to progress their career by moving into the referral/specialist setting. The Opportunity
Embarking on a specialty internship is a significant step in your veterinary career. The 12-month Oncology Internship based at VSS’ Underwood hospital offers the opportunity to work as part of VSS’s Oncology Service, and be integrally involved in all aspects of managing the service’s clinical oncology case load. The intern will be exposed to, and develop skills associated with, all aspects of oncology practice, including clinical case management and decision-making, diagnostics, staging, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, medical record keeping, and client and referring veterinarian communication. The intern will be assigned increasing levels of clinical responsibility based on experience and progress. The intern will also participate in regular clinical rounds, journal club, and didactic seminars. Additionally, there is the opportunity to engage in clinical research, dependent upon the individual’s interests. This internship program would potentially suit both recent graduates and more experienced veterinarians seeking to enhance their skills in oncology, perhaps with a mind to pursuing residency training. Many of VSS’ interns have gone onto successfully complete competitive and challenging residency training programs, becoming registered veterinary specialists.

About the internship
Interns work under the guidance of our neurology specialist assisted by experienced nursing staff. Interns also have close involvement with our other professional services, including specialists in internal medicine, diagnostic imaging and critical care.
Interns are expected to participate in daily rounds and weekly journal club or case presentations. They are encouraged to complete a published work during their internship and, if eligible, to work towards completion of an ANZCVS membership examination.

Animal Eye Care is a specialist lead ophthalmology-only-practice based in Melbourne – Robin Stanley and Matt Sanders. We also have 4 residents and are seeking an intern. The intern will assist the Specialist and Residents in the day to day management of eye cases by participating in consultations, assisting in diagnostic procedures such as electroretinography, ultrasonography, ocular paracentesis, and assisting in the management of the anaesthesia of surgical cases. From time to time it may also be necessary to see emergency cases within and also out of hours.
Animal Eye Care runs a busy referral based ophthalmology practice, with a high medical and surgical case load. We also see a number of zoo animals, exotics and horses. We are based in a dedicated ophthalmology-only-practice building in East Malvern, in the leafy suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.
We have a dedicated, highly trained and motivated nursing team that provide an integral contribution to the practice. We are high end users of Animal Intelligence Software which has been designed for referral practice, we try to be very efficient with client communication and referral letters back to the vets.

About the GARS Surgery Service
The surgical department consists of five surgical specialists with a team of residents, interns and nurses who are supported by specialists in imaging, medicine, oncology and critical care to provide stellar patient care.
Our three operating theatres are truly enviable, overlooking the neighbouring golf course with each fully equipped with endoscopic towers, mono/bipolar electrocautery, suction and Bipolar Vessel Sealing Devices. Two of the theatres also have electric fluoroscopic tables to facilitate minimally invasive image guided neurologic, orthopaedic and interventional radiology procedures. We have multiple locking plate systems (LCP, SOP, Fixin) in all sizes from 1.5 to 4.5mm plus a complete speciality plate range (DPO, SHO, PCA, PanTA, ParTA, supracondylar etc). We also have Biomedtrix iLoc Interlocking nail system, IMEX circular and linear ESF in all sizes.
As Victoria’s leading joint replacement and resurfacing centre, we are the only site equipped and performing Biomedtrix THR (nano, micro, standard, giant and lateral bolt systems), Biomedtrix Total Elbow Replacement, Arthrex CUE, SynACART and Kyon PGR.
For soft tissue procedures, we have a comprehensive range of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic equipment plus all the staplers, Norfolk (Sub, AUS) and Infiniti (IH PSS) interventional radiology equipment and implants. For neurosurgery, we have Stryker electric neurosurgical systems and a comprehensive range of instrumentation. - The surgery internship is designed to ensure you develop a deeper level of knowledge and competence in all areas of small animal surgery by the completion of the program.
- Mentorship, training, support, and guidance provided by a dynamic group of Specialists (Surgery, Internal Medicine, Imaging, Oncology and Emergency and Critical Care) and a supportive team of nursing staff.
- Involvement in daily hospital and medicine rounds, in-clinic tutorials and journal club
- Mentorship and support for interns to pursue ANZCVS membership (if not already completed) and develop research projects is supported and encouraged.
- Continuing education support, including attendance at conferences is supported and encouraged.

Therefore, we are looking for a new Intern in Small Animal Surgery to join our team.
This is an internship with potential to extend into a residency in Small Animal Surgery. We are looking for hard-working, proactive people with excellent communication skills and a positive demeanour.
The Internship:
The Internship is a one-year fulltime (4 days week + rotating weekend discharges and on call) clinical position with a start date as soon as possible (ideally early 2025). The goal is to give the Intern a deeper knowledge and gain experience within the field of small animal surgery. The Intern will be part of the Surgery team, and will be supported by board-certified specialists in surgery (ECVS), internal medicine (ECVIM and ACVIM) and diagnostic imaging (ECVDI, FANZCVS and ACVR) as well as Ophthalmology Registrar, as well as residents, interns, and a team of amazing nurses.
The daily work will revolve around the participation in the small animal surgery service as well as providing collaborative care of the patients in hospital. This will include supporting the anaesthesia and surgical preparation of surgical patients, the pre- and post-operative in-hospital patient care and assisting with consults and discharges. The Intern will scrub into a wide range of advanced soft tissue, orthopaedic and neurosurgeries, as well as active involvement in the pre-operative and post-operative care.
Needless to say, the Intern can expect full support and instruction (including journal club, film reading and other teaching), but initiative and desire to pursue further specialisation will be advantageous. We are an approved ECVS training centre and, for the right person, this internship would be a stepping stone into further training programmes.

About the hospital:
The hospital is undeniably a world class facility that was recently fitted out (2024) to exacting standards with high end finishes. Its elevated position allows incredible views of the city skyline and sunset. The hospital is 1500 square meters and includes undercover parking for pet owners and staff
The hospital equipment is state of the art and includes onsite, CT, Fluoroscopy, state of the art Olympus flexible endoscopy unit and complete set of flexible and rigid scopes. Video otoscope, Ultrasound, DR radiography, multiparameter patient monitoring, ventilators, blood gas, coagulation, haematology and biochemistry machines, Electrochemotherapy and Chemotherapy suite. Space has been allocated for the addition of a 1.5T MRI with the mandated floor strengthening already complete.

Position details
- Internship in Internal Medicine.
- Mentorship, training, support and guidance provided by one Internal Medicine Specialist and a supportive team of nursing staff & interns. Specialists in Small Animal Surgery and Oncology also work at the hospital.
- Guidance and support provided for applications to Residency programs, both within MARS, GARS and external institutions.
- Full time position to start in November 2024

About You
You will have the following;
- Registered as a veterinarian in Victoria
- At least 2years general practice experience desirable but not essential
- Membership of ANZCVS or desire to attain membership highly desirable

Pay and Conditions
- This is a salaried full time position based on a 4 day working week with some rostered weekend work.
- Regular working hours are 8am-6pm, however reasonable flexibility to work beyond those hours on a given day is required if clinical responsibilities dictate this.
- Some work may be required in our sister business, GARS
- Annual leave, personal/carer’s leave, parental leave, compassionate leave and community service leave will accrue and be provided in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009.
- Superannuation paid additional to salary package at 11.5%

Anaesthesia and Analgesia Internship – SASH North Ryde
The Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) is a group of multidisciplinary referral hospitals primarily based in Sydney, Australia with a team of more than 150 vets and 90 specialists and residents. Our North Ryde hospital has several in-house laboratories and a pathology facility, 6 theatres, 128 slice CT, 1.5T MRI, endoscopy, laparoscopy, digital radiology, fluoroscopy, ultrasounds and a linear accelerator with stereotactic capability all on-site.
About SASH:
SASH currently has 5 anaesthesia specialists based at North Ryde (9 across the network), supported by two dedicated anaesthesia nurses. The anaesthesia team supports nurses and interns in other specialties performing anaesthesia across all hospitals in the SASH network. Our team currently performs and supervises in excess of 2800 small animal general anaesthetics annually at North Ryde. Along with our team of anaesthetists (including anaesthesia intern and nurses) you will work collaboratively with specialists in internal medicine, surgery, medical and radiation oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, neurology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, avian and exotics, emergency and critical care and sports medicine and rehabilitation.
Our hospitals are well equipped with anaesthesia, monitoring and ventilatory equipment including dedicated ultrasound for locoregional techniques.

About the Internship:
We are looking for a vet who is enthusiastic about anaesthesia and wants to become part of an energetic, dynamic team for our 12 month veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia internship. The position will be based at our North Ryde hospital in New South Wales, Australia, providing you with an opportunity to work collaboratively across our 15 hospital departments. You will be provided with strong mentorship and a dedicated team, guiding you through the internship. The internship will provide you with an opportunity to be equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to provide you with a solid foundation for a residency program in anaesthesia.
This full-time, 12 month position, is suited for individuals wishing to pursue specialty training in anaesthesia or veterinarians looking to enhance their anaesthesia skills.
To be considered for the position, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- Completed a small animal rotating internship or have a minimum of 2 years’ general practice experience with a strong interest in anaesthesia.
- Have a degree eligible for registration with the New South Wales Veterinary Practitioner Board.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have a flexible approach to your work.
- Have a strong drive for self-development.

The Surgery Internship
You will be mentored for a 12 month period, assisting a team of 6 Specialist Surgeons, 2 Registrars and 2 Residents with diagnosis, surgical treatment, and post operative care of surgical patients. You’ll be exposed to a broad range of Orthopaedic and Soft tissue cases. The surgery department is well resourced with state-of-the-art kit and 6 theatres. Imaging is of the highest standard with digital radiology, MRI, CT scanner, Xray and Ultrasound all readily available. You will be further supported by the largest on-site radiology and anaesthesia teams in the country. Our sports medicine and rehabilitation department has also rapidly expanded. You will work closely with 2 Registrars, as well as a number of rehabilitation therapists, assisting with access to laser and hydrotherapy tank treatments.
The internship has been structured to prepare you for a residency in small animal surgery. The program will run for 12 months, with the option of extending to 18 months if appropriate. This allows you adequate time to complete guided project(s) in the hospital’s clinical research areas. The findings of such research will be presented at a scientific meeting and published in a peer-reviewed journal. You will play a pivotal role in daily rounds and client communication. Assistance in preparation towards membership of the ANZCVS is also available.

- Have completed a rotating internship
- Have a degree enabling you to register as a veterinarian in NSW
