The Australian Animal Protection Society are currently recruiting for an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our team in Keysborough.
Our clinic serves both our shelter and the community through our outpatient clinic, caring for small animal and exotics (rabbits and guinea pigs).
Due to our ongoing growth, we are currently looking for an experienced Cert IV nurse. You will be comfortable working in a fast paced and busy clinic and surgery environment, as part of a team that strive for the highest quality care for each animal that comes through our doors. This position will suit a nurse that is also interested in further learning, growth and upskilling.
Our experienced nurses and vets are able to place IV catheters, perform venupuncture, intubate at time of induction, perform general and dental radiographs. Due to the shelter we also manage a number of interesting medical cases.
This position has the flexibility to work either Part-Time or Casual for the right candidate, with a choice of an 8 or 10 hour day.

MARS Hawthorn East hospital is a multidisciplinary small animal referral hospital staffed 24/7 with onsite specialists in surgery, oncology and internal medicine.

The hospital equipment is state of the art and includes onsite, CT, Fluoroscopy, state of the art Olympus flexible endoscopy unit and complete set of flexible and rigid scopes. Video otoscope, Ultrasound, DR radiography, multiparameter patient monitoring, ventilators, blood gas, coagulation, haematology and biochemistry machines, Electrochemotherapy and Chemotherapy suite. Space has been allocated for the addition of a 1.5T MRI with the mandated floor strengthening already complete.
Our staff are considered experts in their field and industry leaders. The MARS medicine team includes highly experienced Internal Medicine Specialist Dr Abigail Brough and, Veterinary Oncologist Dr Irina Gramer plus department interns and nurses. The MARS team works closely with the GARS medicine team (Drs Scott McCann, Barry Hedgespeth and Brody Pullens) to ensure the highest quality care is achieved. We also have a large surgical team (5 specialists) with three of them especially keen on soft tissue, oncologic, minimally invasive and interventional radiology surgery.
These teams are supported by our outstanding imaging team, Drs Marjorie Milne, Bree Cashmore and Pat Finlayson. Together a very close working relationship between medicine, oncology, surgery and imaging ensures best possible patient care every time. Additional to this, we are also fortunate to have critically ill patients and overnight care provided by Animal Emergency Specialists who work alongside us within the same premises.
