CAPALABA, CITY OF REDLAND - SMALL ANIMAL
Opportunity: Full Time Associate Vet
Location: Capalaba, QLD
Me: Yo playa, how's the job search going? Just started hey? Take your time cuz, it's a jingle out there.
You: A jingle, WTF?
Me: That was a typo. Here's the deal; I own a thriving vet practice in Capalaba, the digs are sexy, the clients are trained like Belgian Malinois and the team peeps are some of the best humans you'll find this side of the Mississippi. We're all about creating an epic place to work. Ever wondered what it would be like to work for google? Me neither. Anyhoo, the place is lit and we're on the prowl for new talent. Makes sense right – epic workplace gonna to grow! So, if this sounds like your jam then dip your bread knife in our jar (I have no idea if that metaphor makes sense but I've come too far).
You: You seem a little wack.
Me: Fair call, everyone else at MLV is normal though. Look, why not read the rest of this ad, slip me an email, we have a coffee and see where it takes us, what have you got to lose?
You: Okay okay, I'll read your freakin ad but you better not be bullshitting me about how good this place is.
Me: Lying to you wouldn't set us up for a great working relationship so pop a traz and chill bro. We're a boutique clinic (viz high quality) and our standard consult time is 30mins so we can do all the things without stressing balls (60mins for chronic derm cases). We have an amazing client base and I'm not just saying that. I've "caught and released" many obnoxious clients for being rude and, as I mentioned, we train the rest of them to value our service whilst paying top dollar.
We've developed a workplace culture foundered upon a common interest in personal development and leadership training. In fact, the University of Georgia Vet School uses My Local Vet as an example of what a great workplace culture looks like when preparing their vet students to enter the workforce!
We do three awesome social events per year ranging from shark diving to sailing trips, helicopter joy rides to multi-day hikes. This creates super-cohesion because we end up working with our mates and when the shit hits the fan at work we don't try to eat each other alive, we look out for each other and get through it together.
You: Shit eh? I hate work functions.
Me: Dude, these are totally different and they're entirely optional. TRUST ME, they're fun.
Me again: Let's see, what else…; we have zero politics just open and honest conversations, most decisions are made by the team, our standards of care is a huge selling point for most vets and this is reflected in our equipment: heated anaesthetic circuits, diathermy, IDEXX inVue Dx Analyser, Procyte and Catalyst machines, UA Analyser, iM3 dental equipment, digital dental radiology, a brand new DR digital x-ray machine, TonoVet tonometer, ultrasound, paperclips, erasers... the list goes on. Every anaesthetised patient receives NIBP, ETCO2 & ECG monitoring plus a warm blanket in recovery straight from our dedicated blanket & IV fluid warmer. It's a nice touch.
Please click here to see photos!
You: Ok well this is looking quite promising. What about the nurses? I've worked with some "OK" ones and some incredible ones. I like the incredible ones.
Me: Don't we all! Our nursing team members are smart, well trained, reliable, and usually two steps ahead of the vets. We have a USA trained Vet Tech fresh from referral practice, an Aussie Vet Tech for diversity, and the others have various qualifications including, but not limited to, Darra Ten Pin Bowling Champion two years in a row, incredible. I find that once you reach a minimum level of expertise (which they all have) it's their personal attributes that make all the difference – willingness to make the vet's life easier, forward thinking, got your back, easy to work with – that kind of thing.
You: What about you? You're sounding less wacky, but you might be a sociopath! Are you?
Me: Haha classic. I've never been asked that before but it's probably worth asking before you apply for a new job right? Having said that, do sociopaths know they're sociopaths? And if they do, would they tell you? I digress. I'm not aware of any such tendency. I think I'm a good person and a good boss. The relationships I cultivate with my team members are horizontal, not vertical. That is to say, I treat others like my equal. Hence my style in writing this ad. I'm open, fair, and honest and I genuinely care about my people. Also, I own the practice independently so if there's something you want to change it's just a conversation not a marathon of red tape. No escalating the issue to your supervisor and then the manager only to find she's currently on annual leave so you'll have to wait until she's back. It's just me, the one stop shop.
You: Ok fair enough, who are the other vets? I'm looking for a collaborative, supportive workplace where the vets share their knowledge and expertise willingly and will make time for me if I need some advice or reassurance that I'm on the right track. Sometimes you just need another opinion, you know?
Me: Totally. I get it. Our Lead Vet, Dr Rach looks for exactly the same thing in our applicants – will they be supportive and generous with their knowledge? Rach has 9 years of experience, practices evidence-based medicine and has a special interest in behaviour. She's switched on and loves discussing cases. Dr Bri is the same. She's been out for two years but she's one of those vets who's insanely dedicated and has already amassed a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Then there's me. I'm currently starring down the barrel of 20 years of vet practice. I used to teach at the UQ Vet School so sharing knowledge comes naturally to me. All of us have experience with most soft tissue surgeries and plenty of dentistry.
You: Ok, well that all sounds pretty good. Where to from here?
Me: Well, you can give me a call if you want to chat more or just send me an email with your resume.
You: Yeah great! I'll do that.
Me: Awesome. The more time I spend in the vet industry the more I realise that fnding the right people (and workplace) is all about networking. As the Dalai Lama once said "if you come too close I will spit in your face" oh wait, no that was just a llama. The Dalai Lama actually said "If you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito". I'm serious, he actually said that so give it a go and we'll debrief over coffee.

COOMBABAH, GOLD COAST - SMALL ANIMAL
Join our Fun and Friendly team at Happy Paws Vet!
- Ready to work somewhere that makes you smile before you even walk through the door?
- Want to work in a practice that prides itself on Gold Standard Care and Service—and actually has the time and tools to deliver it?
- Want to work in a clinic where the owner genuinely cares about the team and the culture is fantastic?
- Does general surgery and dentistry light you up?
Happy Paws Veterinary Clinic is a privately owned small animal clinic located in the northern end of the Gold Coast, opened in 2017 by Dr Vanessa.
"My why: Since graduating in 1999 I worked in a variety of independently owned and corporate practices throughout Canada, the UK and Australia, but never found the practice of my dreams. I dreamt of a clinic where 30 minute consultations were standard in order to deliver exceptional care and service, be thorough and still have enough time to develop a relationship with the clients. A clinic where the team culture was fun and positive - based on respect and integrity, where I would work alongside people who share a true passion for our industry and enjoy coming to work, where mistakes were viewed as learning opportunities and feedback was frequent and welcomed. In 2017, I decided that since I hadn't found this nirvana, I would create it! Nearly 8 years on, not only has my dream become my reality in Happy Paws, but the clinic has also become bigger and better with a recently completed expansion! Now we are looking for another like-minded veterinarian to join myself, Dr Tiana and our amazing support team in keeping the dream going!" Dr Vanessa Escott
But don't just take my word for it! Here are a few things Dr Tiana said when asked what her favourite things about working here are:
"- The team & culture of the clinic is unmatched
- Scheduling is fantastic - time for call backs & catch ups, multiple save for the day booking slots to allow for emergencies or on the day calls
- Clients are well trained: rarely getting walk ins who demand to be seen; understand the importance of monitoring bloodwork & regular checks; value our work and often express their gratitude towards us
- Having actual relationships with clients who value our recommendations
- The support staff - so incredibly competent and confident they are always making my day so much easier & can put all my trust in them
- No double bookings, no "we'll squeeze this one in", no end of day surprise appointments before we close
- Up to date toys/equipment & a flashy clinic are nice but nothing compares to this team ☺"
Please click here to see photos!
What We Bring to the Table:
- Team-oriented culture with a boss that really does care about the team
- A truly boutique clinic with clients that value our service and our attention to detail
- A beautiful, purpose-built facility with ISFM Gold Accreditation (yes, we even have a separate entrance for cats!)
- All the usual bells and whistles you would expect and a workplace you look forward to coming to everyday (let's face it – you don't spend 38 hours a week in any other place!)
- Continuing Education allowance to purse your special interests
- A fantastic espresso machine in the dedicated lunchroom, because we know how important those little things are!
Who You Are:
- A vet with a growth mindset, a passion for preventative care, and a drive to provide exceptional service
- A vet with at least a few years' experience – comfortable with complex medical cases and general surgery
- Someone who values teamwork and believes in the power of communication and collaboration
- A vet who loves general surgery and dentistry
- A vet who wants to truly make a difference in the lives of pets and clients alike - by going beyond just treating the immediate issue
Ideally you are looking for a full-time position (working 76 hours per fortnight with the spread of hours being 4 weekdays (8am to 5:30pm) and every second Saturday (8am to 12midday)). However, if you are seeking part time hours and this sounds like your dream job - don't let this put you off applying!! The roster can be flexible if you're the perfect fit!

- Start Date: January 2026
A DAY IN THE LIFE FROM A 2025 INTERN
7:00AM: Morning treatments. One horse has shredded his bandage and is proudly wearing the remnants. The dummy foal is now standing (yay!) but has wrapped his fluid line around his body like a tourniquet.
8:15AM: Rounds with the senior vets. I nod along like I fully understand what is being said. I do not but am happy to learn as much as I can. No question is too small here, and the team encourages curiosity—which is good, because I have a lot of questions.
9:00AM: Procedure time. Could be nerve blocks and x-rays for a lameness, could be a colic workup, maybe even foal exam. I am assisting, learning, and occasionally pretending I know what structure the senior vet is pointing at. Bonus points if I do.
12:30PM: Lunch! Or it would be, if two emergencies had not shown up at the same time as a senior vet needs help with a prepurchase exam x-raying everything but the kitchen sink. Perform an abdominocentesis for the first time and get fluid!
1:30PM: Discharge the colic surgery from the weekend prior, owner hands me the box of chocolates as a thank you; contemplate hiding them from the rest of the team. Decide to share them after surgically extracting my favourites.
3:00PM: Finally sit down for lunch. Begin paperwork. Remember I hate paperwork. Paperwork senses this and multiplies.
4:00PM: Afternoon treatments. The Houdini in Box 1 has somehow tied himself in knots with his fluid line. A horse in the paddock doesn’t want to be caught and is doing laps like it is the Melbourne Cup. I’ve lost my stethoscope and can’t find a pen.
6:00PM: Technically off the clock, but my brain is still on. The on-call phone rings as I’m about to leave and my soul briefly exits my body. Thankfully, I am not required. I live to fight another day. Tired? Definitely. Still love it? Absolutely.
Ok, real talk: Yes, this is satire. Yes, the days are long, and the horses have a sixth sense for testing your mental stability. But also, there is nothing quite like learning from a team that supports you, growing more confident each week, and knowing you are doing work that really matters. If you are thinking about applying, do it. You will work hard, you will laugh often, and you absolutely will not regret it.
Sound like your kind of chaos? We would love to hear from you. We strongly recommend visiting but understand that this is not a reality for everyone. We are happy to get you in touch with current and past interns after applying so you can ask them any questions that you may have.
Please send your current CV (including references) and a cover letter to:
margaux@westvets.com.au
nathan@westvets.com.au

Make sure to use ‘Internship Application’ as your subject line so we do not miss it!

NOOSAVILLE, SUNSHINE COAST - SMALL ANIMAL, CASUAL
IF YOU'RE SICK OF BEING A LOCUM OR FEELING “MEH” ABOUT BEING A VET→
YOU MUST READ THIS ADD ** NOOSA QLD **
WANT ALL THE FLEXIBILITY OF BEING A LOCUM BUT YEARNING FOR SOMEONE TO CARE ABOUT YOU, BE THERE WHEN YOU NEED THEM AND INVEST IN YOUR GROWTH AND SKILLS?
Now we all know that being a locum is all the rage!
It offers:
- Flexibility- you are the Master of your own destiny! You can control your hours, when you would like a holiday and perceivably more $ Money per hour. WIN *****
- Someone to stick you in a consult room on your own with complete disregard as to how much you possibly can do in 15 minutes. This affects your ability to have a relationship with another human at a hugely important time in their life caring for something they love more than anything.
- An overwhelming day where every client is new and every history you haven't seen so much time and energy is expended every day just getting across the data. (AI may improve this if you want to locum long enough to find out!) It leads to Mediocrity as that's a survival technique.
- Getting handballed aggressive and difficult cases no one else wants to lean into.
- Developing new relationships with nurses each new locum to find out where their skills are, who is the one to avoid and who you can rely on.
- Never have the opportunity to learn or develop new skills as you're not there long term so people don't have the inclination and it makes no sense to upskill someone who is not staying.
- THIS SOUNDS AMAZING–I'M NOT SURE WHY EVERYONE DOESN'T DO IT??
OK: on a more serious note ! :)
Read our Other Vets testimonial below and maybe JUST maybe it's time to hang up the locum boots and get ahead. The $$ money is the same, the days are a lot easier and you’ll actually take a step towards improving your skill set and mind set. If you want to go to Europe for a month you can. If you want to go camping you can. It's possible to have flexibility without the downside.
If you're reluctant to commit – come on board as a CASUAL and taste the Noosa lifestyle!
In the Words of Dr WIll—> “NDAH is a wonderful clinic to settle for those seeking a sea change. I have found that the clinic offers a very high level of care and have been working alongside very experienced orthopaedic surgeons, general medical gurus and geriatric care heroes! I have experienced a high level of professional growth since joining the practice and always feel very well supported when new challenges arise. In addition to great veterinary support, the nursing and reception team are excellent and we all get along really well as we have the same values.. I particularly enjoy having a buddy nurse each day, to share the joys and trials of the day together and to always be able to offer stress free handling in consults and they keep me safe. The clinic values work life balance and holidays are not only supported, but recommended. If you're looking for a job that will take your Veterinary Skills and Life Skills to the next stage, support you to make a difference and encourage you to love your life, I couldn't recommend NDAH highly enough! I am acutely aware these roles are valuable and so encourage you if any of these words resonate with you to come and meet us and have a chat."

NAMBOUR, SUNSHINE COAST - SMALL ANIMAL New Position
Want a job that supports you in a way that your career flourishes?
Hey, I'm Dr Sian and together with my amazing team we operate All Animal Veterinary Services and Yandina Veterinary Clinic on the Sunshine Coast QLD.
We all know that Vets are in high demand and are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a job.
That's a bit different to when we first graduated!
And whilst that's different...
What has stayed the same is the challenge of trying to decide who to trust to support you in your career and find a clinic that is the right fit for you!
Being a vet is a fantastic and rewarding career...
One in which you have worked very hard to be a part of.
When we started our clinic we were very clear that when the time came to take on board associate Vets that they would be supported, valued and encouraged to thrive in their career and that we would provide a culture that allows them to do so.
If that is what you are looking for then we are the team for you!
Now we could brag…but we have all the usual fun toys...
We are a privately owned and family operated small animal business with no after hours...
We pride ourselves on a fun loving culture with a tight knit team...
We practice high standards of care for our patients...
Minimum 2yrs experience preferred...
And we are on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland!!
But you should ignore all that and instead listen to what Dr Bri has said about her experience...
"All animal Vets has been a wonderful clinic to work at. I started over four years ago as a recent graduate and have been provided lots of support from the senior vets, plenty of chances for learning and development as well as encouragement of continued professional development opportunities.
It is a busy, at times fast-paced clinic, with lots of exposure to interesting and varied cases and surgeries. We have such an enjoyable, positive clinic culture, we're always up for a laugh while getting in and working together to get the job done!”
If this sounds like the kind of clinic you might like to work with then I'd love to hear from you!
All you need is a keen attitude to learn and a good sense of humour...
(And a Vet degree... you will need one of those!)
And we will help you with the rest.
If you'd like to learn more flick me a text or give me a call on 0415 569 683.
