SAMFORD VALLEY, MORETON BAY REGION - 100% SMALL ANIMAL POSITION IN MIXED PRACTICE
Searching for a practice that feels like home?
You've found it.
You will not find a better team anywhere.
We support each other. We work hard. We collaborate. We always hold the patients’ needs first and foremost. We have vets with many decades of experience to assist you. We problem solve together.
We challenge you to find a more adaptive and efficient small animal team in Australia!
Samford Valley is 25km from Brisbane city, 1.5hrs to Gold & Sunshine Coasts
Ideally we need a full time vet. We can also accommodate your preference for part time or casual.
You will have everything at your fingertips to diagnose & work-up your cases in our fully equipped small animal hospital. Digital xrays inc dental, ultrasound, surgical theatre, intensive care, in-house lab, bair huggers...the list goes on!
Please click here to see photos!
We have been in our beautiful Samford Valley for over 40 years. We are ingrained in our community and their animals - and we simply wouldn't have it any other way. Positions in our practice are tightly held, and our team really do make a difference in the lives of our loving, close-knit family community. Our clients are dedicated & willingly follow your patient care plan.
Canine (85%) Feline (10%) Wildlife / Avian (<5 %) The caseload is broad and varied - we really do see it all here! From the simple to the complex - medical and surgical.
We see the normal mix of household pet problems through the consult door, as well as plenty of emergencies common to country living (ticks, snake bites, heat stress, hit by car etc)
Full or Part Time Position - You'll need a solid base in both medicine & surgery (we already have orthopaedic surgeons so you don't need to be able to do that). Your roster will include both surgery and consulting shifts.
Prefer just consulting and no surgery? No problems.
Casual Position - we require primarily consulting shift cover (medicine, no surgery). We have shifts every day available at present - and can accommodate around your pre-existing schedule.
We have members of our team who are skilled at ultrasound and surgery - and are always at the ready to assist. We work together on cases where required. We also have visiting specialists available to come to us for those complex cases. Support is always available.
Samford feels like a small country town, but is really on the outskirts of Brisbane - only 25km from the city. We are halfway between the Sunshine and Gold Coasts. We are home to some of the very best restaurants and coffee houses in Australia. So many families have their own little piece of paradise on a couple of acres with a cat, a couple of dogs, a horse, and perhaps an alpaca or two.
We of course provide annual leave, personal leave, superannuation and all the usual perks.
Things we do a little differently are:
- We believe in investing in your future – and provide a very generous annual CPD allocation.
- We are a family friendly practice – and have lots of parents within our team. We are flexible and understanding around your personal commitments. Paid parental leave is one of our many benefits.
- We believe in people – and very regularly have team lunches, celebrations and create ‘feel good’ opportunities within our busy days.
We would love to meet you, in the meantime you can meet us here:

Our driving philosophy is to Improve Vets' work conditions in areas like remuneration, conditions, happiness, skills with modern Veterinary diagnostic equipment, and meeting the pet care needs of exceptional clients
We have worked hard over the last 7 years to develop a workplace that is designed to support our Vets and provide a job that is “normal”. We are more interested in Our Veterinary Staff having the support, opportunities and conditions that exist in other professions and can be hard to find in Vet.
Our Staff
All have a desire to make their place of work exceptional and to work with other exceptional people. We encourage Staff to improve their skills and want their Job to mean something. For Us a stable work environment is key - this is what we staff to and schedule to.
Our Clients
Our clients support a 90% case work-up rate with >50% revisit ratios - makes for a truly unique working environment. There are 30 minute Consults with an occasional 20 minute requirement. Work pace is planned and the practice is staffed to be run at a steady pace with the occasionally busy period. Nurse support is exceptional with 1-2 Cert 4 Nurses available per Vet.
Our Workplace
Centenary Vet Hospital works out of new premises built to Hospital accreditation as of August 2015. We have a dedicated positive pressure Surgery and dedicated Dental and Imaging room. Our Goals are to improve the Veterinary Landscape
We want to work primarily with Clients that also want accurate diagnosis and treatment. Our staff (particularly Vets) only work what they are employed to work. We promote good health support (physical and mental) and aim to improve wages to compete with other industries.
At Centenary Vet Hospital, Veterinary Staff are paid for hours worked; paid market rates well above award; have access to HR and support structures; and we provide whatever is needed to work professionally and happily. If your current job has too many speys, too difficult a culture, too many difficult Clients, too little support or growth opportunities, and too few interesting Medical Cases, then this position will suit you.

STAFFORD, NORTH BRISBANE - SMALL ANIMAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Dermatology for Animals – Internship programme 2023-24
Established in 1998, Dermatology for Animals provides the veterinary dermatology service within the majority of specialist multi-disciplinary veterinary hospitals in Queensland, as well as providing dermatology referral services to regional centres in Queensland, Northern Territory and New South Wales. We are now inviting applications for our 2023 intake, with one position available to start in February and another in August. Interns are appointed for an eighteen-month period and are based in south-east Queensland.
Our interns work alongside our specialists, registrars and residents with the aim of providing incumbents with an in-depth understanding of veterinary dermatological skin disease and treatment. Primary case responsibility is not a feature of these positions. The knowledge gained during an internship will be applicable to those seeking to pursue further studies in veterinary dermatology (eg – pursuing residency training with a view to specialisation), and also to those wishing to gain a solid grounding in a discipline that forms approximately 30% of all non-preventative general practice accessions.
Veterinary dermatology is unique amongst referral disciplines in fostering long-term relationships with clients and patients. It’s less about fixing our patients and sending them on their way, and more about managing their issues so that they and their owners can live their best lives. It’s also unique in that dermatology rarely presents with genuine emergencies, and this allows us all to have an enviable work-life balance.
WHAT WE OFFER
- The opportunity to work with internationally renowned leaders in veterinary dermatology.
- Training in dermatology specific diagnostic techniques including intradermal allergy testing.
- Training in the use of cutting-edge technology including:
- CO2 and diode lasers.
- MRI and CT.
- Video-otoscopy.
- The ability to hone your communication skills through client communication in person, on the telephone and via email.
- No out of hours work. We do work on Saturdays but provide a weekday off in lieu.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- An enthusiasm for learning, and an understanding that there’s still a lot we don’t know.
- The flexibility to move from one aspect of the role to another, and then back again.
- Excellent communication skills to enhance our reputation with clients and referring vets alike.
- A clean driving licence as travel to various centres in south-east Queensland is required.
If you think you might be interested in veterinary dermatology as a career, or just wish to hone your skills in this important discipline, then an internship with Dermatology for Animals may be what you’re looking for. If you would like to explore the opportunities further, please email your application, including a letter of intent and your current CV to:
