DELORAINE, CENTRAL NORTH TAS - MIXED VET
Rare Opportunity – Genuine Mixed Vet With Partnership Potential - Tasmania
We are looking for the next additional vet to join our mixed practice in the central north of Tasmania, and we might be just the clinic you’re looking for! Genuine shared ownership potential for the right people, through a private company structure (all the benefits, but none of the risks of traditional partnership). So if you are ready to join a team who really care about each other, whilst doing a great job of being a vet, read on!
This is a genuine mixed practice with the case load evenly spread between cattle (mostly dairy), horses, and small animals. We currently average 6 - 7 vets on any one day, and we are looking to add another to keep that all important work life balance. We are seeking someone who either is, or has the potential to become, an elite mixed practice veterinarian. Given the number of vets, and the species mix, you will be able to fully pursue your professional development in your chosen field of expertise . Our aim is to have most vets having a good functional capability across all areas of mixed practice, whilst excelling in their particular field of interest and expertise. However, if you find that a bit daunting, but like the idea of still being within a mixed practice within a country town community, then we encourage your contact with us to discuss the possibilities of what a tailor made job might look like.
This practice has had substantial and ongoing investment in facilities and equipment, such that the quality of intervention and care is unrivalled in Tasmania, across all major species. As such, this is an opportunity to join the ownership team of a progressive cutting edge practice, with all the likely desired tools and toys already in use. We have a particular focus in our hospital equipment on equine and small animal, with full surgical and medical capabilities for both of those departments. For example, some of the equipment includes two arthroscope systems (one small animal, one equine), high quality diagnostic ultrasounds, multiple endoscopes both flexible and rigid, ophthalmic operating microscope, fluoroscopy unit. High quality cordless orthopaedic for both small animal and equine, with a vast range of implants held in stock. The cattle work is facilitated by a mobile tipper crush, multiple ultrasound pregnancy testing units, electro ejaculator.
Due to the lack of resident specialists in Tasmania, we function as a referral centre for many of our colleagues across Tasmania, performing work that would typically be done in a specialist hospital. Clientele are generally very good, and appreciative of quality service provided. Nursing staff are some of the best in Tassie, giving competent support including after-hours availability. Veterinarians are encouraged to pursue their own cases through to completion or the limit of their ability, with back up or bail out provided as needed! Teamwork is a priority for us, with all staff contributing to a happy work environment, while providing quality care. By being able to provide high quality care without having to refer all the interesting and challenging cases, the job satisfaction is very high, and we have a history of long-term staff that are happy and fulfilled in their work. After hours shared evenly between the more junior staff, with senior staff being available as back up. Salary range according to skills and experience, and new or recent graduates are very welcome to apply.
Socially, Deloraine is a town of about 2,500 within 35 minutes of provincial cities of Devonport & Launceston. Ski fields, bush walking, lake & ocean fishing all within one hour. The town itself is well equipped with sporting facilities, schools, etc (even pubs).
Interested? Please send a resume with cover letter to Roger Blackwell, roger@meandervets.com.au or call 0417 322 108 to discuss this position.

SHEFFIELD, MOUNT ROLAND - MIXED ANIMAL
NEW TEAM MEMBER NEEDED
Mixed Animal Veterinarian Required Sheffield Veterinary Clinic - Tasmania
- Do you want to work in a tightly-knit and supportive veterinary clinic?
- Are you looking to extend your knowledge and have the opportunity to utilise this knowledge?
- Are you interested in a fulfilling career in mixed animal practice?
At the Sheffield Veterinary Clinic, we love our work. With a high standard of service and always aiming for a great client experience, the clients (and generally the patients) love our work too.
Medical consultations are routinely given 30 minutes. This allows time to get to know the clients, their pets and their problems. As the vet, it allows you to run bloods, check that skin scraping and workshop a plan with the client. Oh, and there’s time to write up the jobs too. Even vaccinations and quick rechecks get 15 minutes.
Now when I say that we love our work, it doesn’t mean that everything is always puppies and newborn foals - we are not that naive. We have our fair share of sad cases and difficult cases, just like all veterinary clinics. We perform animal shelter work for the R.S.P.C.A and treat injured wildlife including Tasmanian Devils, Quolls, Wallabies, Possums and Bandicoots just to name a few.
Please click here to see photos!
We are a privately owned veterinary clinic, and that’s important. It means flexibility, and that means that your ideas and plans can be incorporated into the practice. You will be able to practise your way and be supported in your passions and interests as you do so. We are committed to allowing our staff members to expand and grow. We offer the standard week of study leave, but if you would like a workshop or course, all you need to do is ask. We currently have one vet studying to sit her membership exams in imaging. Hours of work are flexible and definitely open to negotiation around your requirements.
What we have:
We are a country clinic in a busy town about 25 minutes from Devonport. We have a boss who is (a little) obsessed with equipment and consequently, we have most, if not all, of the toys you might need or want. Some examples include: IM3 dental machine, dental radiography, digital radiography (field and in house), reproductive ultrasound, small animal ultrasound, endoscopy, IDEXX Procyte, Coagulation and Catalyst, Ventilator, Orthopaedic Gear, Tonometer etc etc.
What we need:
A veterinarian with a friendly demeanour and a good rapport with people and animals. Someone who is caring, understanding and thorough in their approach. Someone who is willing and able to cover after hours on a roster arrangement.
What we are offering:
A good working environment. These days that really is the most important thing anyone can offer, but we know that you also need food on the table… So… Above award salary, continuing education, study leave, use of a fully kitted work vehicle.
