ANDERGROVE, MACKAY - SMALL ANIMAL
There has to be more than this?
Is this what being a vet looks like?
What about Balance? Why do I get anxious?
How do I let go of the day that I have had so I don’t bring it home and can sleep without the worrying.
Are there teams out there that are nice to each other, support each other and have some fun?
Is work not meant to be fun?
There is no doubt that the veterinary landscape has changed and is constantly changing. Clients expect more and seem more stressed, teams more anxious and less emotionally connected. That can make any day challenging!
Please click here to see photos!
THINGS CAN BE DIFFERENT.
IF ANY OF THE BELOW RESONATES WITH YOU…..WHY NOT APPLY?
- You are a lover of sunshine, beaches, camping, exploring and the outdoors!
- You like to be busy! A quiet day every now and then to catch your breath is ok but you like a day that does not drag on. Purpose is good…it feels good.
- You are a social person who likes to interact with and appreciate not only your friends and family, but also the people who you work with. "People that play together stay together!"
- HOLIDAYS! They are part of our mental health plan- where is your next holiday? The airport is only a 20 minute drive away and JETSTAR/QANTAS AND VIRGIN ALL FLY FROM HERE! Bali for a relaxing holiday? NZ for a hiking or skiing holiday?
- You want to be appreciated for the effort you put in every day! You’re not high maintenance but you like to be part of a team that supports and appreciates each other and lets people know when they have done a great job.
- You also accept that not everything always goes to plan and a debrief and coaching chat about possible ways forward to make things better is also appreciated. You don’t like people who yell or use emotional manipulation as part of a management tool. You don’t mind feedback but as respect and integrity is part of who you are you feel this needs to be delivered appropriately.
- You have seen those new and shiny hospitals where everything has a place, everything is labelled, new and clean, maybe even double height ceilings so you can have a sense of space, it is purposely designed for work flow and is all sound proofed…and one day you promised yourself you would work in one.
- You’ve heard of or experienced the benefits of team consulting with dedicated consult nurses and no longer want to struggle to handle patients by yourself, or stay behind at the end of the day finishing consult notes.
- You don’t mind that the equipment breaks from time to time…but it is really hard to do your job if it does not get fixed or its just dodge.
- You want to learn…but with support. Not be left to your own devices out of your comfort zone- high and dry. You want to be more confident at working up medicine cases or maybe you have more of a surgical interest? Which would you prefer? Maybe a bit of both?
- Vet dinners: you have heard they are great fun and although you are not sure about your own cooking you are willing to give it a go! Talking about cases, learning about information someone got from a conference with a sprinkle of laughing and fun. That sounds good.
YOU CAN HAVE A BALANCED REWARDING CAREER…LET US SHOW YOU HOW!
Our package is well above award and above all - not only will we pay you well we will invest in you with our time, energy and resources to help you be the best version of yourself. The team’s wellness is our priority and if you are part of our team…that incudes you!
The nitty gritty:
- We are currently a 8 FT, 4 PT veterinary team.

EAST BUNDABERG, WIDE BAY BURNETT REGION - SMALL ANIMAL
Veterinary surgeon wanted to join a 4 person practice in Bundaberg Queensland
We are a small animal hospital with all the “mod cons” – dental and normal digital x-rays, ultrasound machines, 3 surgery tables and dental table, full orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery equipment, comprehensive pathology lab, class 4 laser therapy machine, fully computerized hospital etc.
Why should you apply for this position?
We are very experienced and very qualified with 2 of the senior vets belonging to Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Science – one in Small Animal Surgery and one in Internal Medicine of Small Animals.
We are privately owned and do not hold our staff to KPIs. We believe in Quality rather than Quantity in our workload as we deal with our clients and their wonderful furry and feathered friends.
We encourage further education, and we offer a fully paid week leave to attend conferences etc.
We have vet meetings every morning to discuss any hard or annoying cases and we tutor all young or inexperienced veterinarians.
We do not have a large workload and that means that the vet has time on each case to fully investigate and time to discuss the case with each client.
We care for our staff – if you are inexperienced then we will teach you, if you are moderately experienced we will encourage and help you to develop your skills and if you are very experienced, we will leave you alone unless you require help.
Every vet gets 6 weeks holidays a year.
Every vet gets “half a day” off each week.
If you are “on duty” on a weekend – the next weekend is a 4-day weekend.
There is some afterhour work involved but our workload afterhours is very small.
We believe that there is more to life than veterinary science and it is important that we have a life outside of veterinary science.
Salary starts at $80,000.00 for new graduate and goes up higher depending on experience of successful applicant.
We offer rental assistance to the successful applicant for the first year of employment and further assistance would be considered after this time.

Why should you consider coming to Bundaberg?
It is a small city with lots to offer all citizens of our fine town. It is the southern most point of the Barrier Reef. We are a “step and hop” away from Gari (Frazer Island). Our beaches are safe for all water sports and activities, and we have a number of dams in the area for those who want to partake of freshwater activities. Our city caters for all forms of team sports as well as individual sports and forms of recreation.
We have the world-famous Mon Repos turtle sanctuary, and we are one of the ports for Whale Watching. We are surrounded by some of the best growing areas in Australia and are often called the Salad Bowl of Australia.
The cost of living is a lot cheaper than any of the big cities and transport is easy and traffic jam free. In fact, it only takes 20 minutes to drive from one side of the city to the other even in peak hour traffic.
Our air is clean, there is no pollutant smells, the people are friendly, there are lots of different schools and one university, there is a very active playhouse and there is night entertainment for the young and young at heart.
To sum it up
Bundaberg is a very safe, healthy and happy place to live, the veterinary hospital is a great place to work and the successful applicant will learn a lot and develop their veterinary skill under the tuition of very experienced senior vets and you will have plenty of time away to have a “normal” life.

⭐️ Every pet gets a minimum 20 - 30 min consult – this allows us to take our time not feel rushed and provide the quality care that our clients love. 🐈
⭐️ We don’t believe in the ‘hard sell’ approach, no staff member is judged based on an ATV, we give genuine, honest recommendations and pride ourselves in the aftercare we provide. 🐕
⭐️ Lunch breaks are paid and taken, we appreciate that sometimes things get hectic, but we still ensure everyone gets a break, we also have a well-stocked snack cupboard for those quick refuels in between. 🍩
⭐️ We go out of our way on those ‘tough days’ to say thanks to those that have been there with us and helped get us through. 😻
⭐️ We enjoy going to trivia nights and doing crosswords together because we actually like hanging out together, not because it is a set ‘team building’ activity devised by the management team. 🎳
⭐️ We encourage additional learnings and will support anyone in gaining further knowledge, from ‘lunch n learn’ opportunities during work hours to attendance of seminars or webinar access where possible. 🎾
Don’t get us wrong- just because we are small, and we like to be friends- that doesn’t mean we cut corners or don’t provide quality care. It just means we don’t put the dollars 💵 before our team’s wellbeing 😁
Being owned by an independent and caring Veterinarian means this business was created to provide an environment where all employee's love coming to work every day, and sharing their time with similar minded people that want to help the pets in our community 🐾
We are a modern and progressive team, with all the toys and support you need to do your job. Some of our current equipment includes a digital x-ray machine, ultrasound, fully decked out dental suite and dental 🦷 x-ray machine, not to mention a great team of experienced and capable nurses to assist you along the way.
Being part of the community sits high on our list of priorities, which also means we encourage you to have out of work activities and will work with you to create a roster that fits your lifestyle ⛱
If you want to hear more about us or the role, get in touch via email or give the clinic a ring and ask any of our team ☎️
We realise this all sounds too good to be true – and may even be saying we have heard it all before. There is nothing we can say or do to convince you other than to challenge you 👍
If your current role isn’t providing an environment for you to thrive take the 10 minutes out of your day to talk to us and see what you think 🤔

- A vet who is keen to keep on learning and developing.
- We are a busy clinic so we need someone who is ready to be part of a team that supports each other with our daily case load.
Hear it from our team:
I came to Harbour City Vets as a new Grad in 2021 from Adelaide.
The team were very warm and welcoming.
I have had the opportunity to develop exceptional clinical and surgical skills with constant mentoring and support.
Being a busy clinic, I was fortunate enough to perform upwards of 6 routine desexing/general soft tissue procedures a day with dedicated mentoring. The experienced support team make a huge difference, always around with guidance and assistance. The clinic has a varied caseload and I have experienced “hands on” a wide variety of interesting general and emergency cases to build my skill set.
Apiam also provide support via a Graduate Development Program, with external mentors, workshops and weekend retreats. The program is aimed at building resilience, managing a good work life balance and putting you in touch with like minded peers to build a support network.
As a New Grad if you are looking for a clinic to support personal growth and hands on skills, I would recommend working at Harbour City Vets.
Gladstone is a nice easy town to live in and navigate around. The real estate is very reasonable, the climate is perfect and I love living so close to the beach on my days off – Dr Taylor Smith
I came to Harbour City Vet Surgery as an international Vet needing to pass the AVE exam for registration in Australia. The team were extremely supportive, professionally and personally. APIAM were able to provide opportunities within other AAH clinics to help gain extra experience and skills to prepare for my final AVE exams for the large animal competencies which could not be achieved in a small animal only clinic. The caseload is varied and exciting, we carry out a large number of both routine and non routine medical, surgical and emergency cases. I have also been fortunate enough to gain hands on experience familarising myself with and treating native wildlife in clinic.
Gladstone is a great regional area to live in. There is so much great outdoors to explore, camping, hiking fishing and beaches close by. Most facilities you require are available locally and if not, Rockhampton is a 1hr drive north or Brisbane a 1hr flight away. - Dr Lisa Hauer
I have been working for the Harbour City Veterinary surgery for 20 years as a Veterinary Nurse. I was employed whilst the clinic was a small family owned business and throughout our transition to become a part of Apiam Animal Health group. It is always a scary thought when you find out your workplace is going from family owned to corporate. Apiam made the transition smooth and business continued as normal for all us staff. We have a massive amount of support in all areas business and personally plus a few extra perks, corporate staff discounts from various vendors and a bonus “Apiam day off” each year. The team at Harbour City is great to be a part of, we pride ourselves on our family orientated culture, support of one another and staff longevity. We have a well fitted out clinic with in-house pathology machines, digital xrays and ultrasound to name a few.
I have raised a family in Gladstone and there are diverse range of opportunities available locally in sports, the arts and general outdoor activities. Gladstone offers all the major facilities you require without the crazy busy hustle and traffic of capital cities. There is an abundance of National Parks, Beaches and Islands to explore at our doorstep, along with wonderful Cafes, restaurants and outdoor parks and spaces such as East Shores and Spinnaker Park to relax and chill.- Sarah, Clinic Coordinator/Nurse.
Gladstone is a fantastic part of Queensland. We have everything here from beach to bush and the perfect climate. You can spend weekends exploring the Boyne Valley, walking the old train tunnels, swimming in waterholes and having lunch at the pub or you can drive down Lily’s Beach and spend the afternoon with a picnic and drinks or camp overnight. You can go for a stroll at our beautiful marina, Spinnaker Park or East Shores waterfront precinct and have lunch overlooking the harbour and islands, explore our award winning botanic garden and walking trails. If you love the outdoors there are National Parks and State Forests to explore in all directions, some with significant historical heritage such as WWII bomber “Betsy” in Kroombit National Park. Or you might want to watch a show at our Entertainment Centre, world class ballet companies and performing acts and enjoy an espresso martini at the wine bar or visit our art gallery. You can take a tinny out onto Lake Awoonga, a beautiful place for family picnics and barbeques, swimming and water sports, fish or crab in the local rivers or join a fishing competition to catch a Barra. We are at the Southern end of The Great Barrier Reef and have access to an abundance of Islands such as Heron or Lady Musgrave where you can snorkel and dive the coral reefs. If interested in marine animals, you can volunteer at the Quion Island turtle rehabilitation centre, which homes, green, leatherback and hawksbill sea turtles. Agnes Waters, is the most northern surf beach on the QLD coast, a great day or weekend escape. The relaxed lifestyle in Gladstone is fantastic and on top of that our real estate is a great price. BILOELA - MIXED PRACTICE, SMALL ANIMAL ONLY VETS WELCOME
ARE YOU A VET LOOKING FOR MORE?
THE NEXT 2 MINUTES COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
Hello, I’m Doctor Katie, and I head the team at Callide Valley Vets.
I grew up locally on a cattle farm. Country life and I are like peas and carrots. When all the other kids were playing netball or football, I was out riding my horse. My career and trajectory in the industry stems from childhood, where I spent many a time peeking wide-eyed over the rails in awe when our vet came to visit. I was fascinated by what he could do, to me he was a miracle man (and 6 year old me was right, he really was).
We are searching for a new veterinarian to join our country practice – we welcome applicants that are either a mixed or small animal veterinarian:
If you love mixed practice or just want to focus on small animals, either would be perfect for you if:
- You thrive in a job that provides variety: an even spread of consulting, medicine and surgery work within the clinic, and the added bonus of cattle and horse work if that’s your thing?
- Like to be paid an amazing salary?
- Crave an experience where you are truly experiencing a work/life balance – our business hours are 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 11:30am on Saturdays (1 in 3 rota). NO AFTER HOURS.
- Desire a country lifestyle, but one where it’s only an hour to the beach and the airport?
- You enjoy clients that enable you to work up cases where financial constraints are uncommon?
- Have a thirst for knowledge and continuing education?
Ask yourself - what is holding you back from something better?
Here’s what we think makes this job so exciting:
- 4 ½ day work week
- 5 weeks annual leave
- Excellent salary
- Allocated CPD budget
- NO AFTER HOURS. Yes, you read that right. None.
Please click here to see photos!
The team can provide references upon request, so don’t take my word for it, ask them for yourself!
Sounds like this could be for you? Then read on…
This opportunity is for someone who doesn’t necessarily have to have an abundance of industry experience, but rather someone who has a passion for being a veterinarian and embraces a rural lifestyle.
Here is a chance to join a practice where you are able to undertake 50/50 large and small animal (in the case of a mixed veterinarian), or a broad spread of in clinic work for a small animal veterinarian. Our team is cohesive, well trained and has a ‘can do’ attitude. The potential to upskill and give anything a go will be limited only by your imagination.
On a personal note, I didn’t realise at the time I first purchased the clinic, but looking back now I see that I had clear motives:
- Lead a team that provides a high quality and well rounded service to the local community
- Create a workplace that staff truly enjoy, where they want to come to work every day
- Compensate staff generously
- Work life balance is essential
If you reach out to have a chat know that our conversation will be kept completely confidential.
Call us. It takes 2 minutes out of your day and it could just turn out to be the best thing you have ever done.

INNISFAIL, CASSOWARY COAST - SMALL ANIMAL
Have you just graduated as a Vet?
Got a 'have a go' attitude?
Want to get the best start to your career?
Hi! I’m Karen Phillips and being a Vet has been a 25 year adventure for me!
Over that time I have had the privilege of helping a number of new graduates get the right start to their career...
And I'm excited to help another get their start in 2023!
About 18 years ago I had the opportunity to buy the clinic I was working in (Coral Coast Vets)...
Like many clinic owners I wanted to create a "lovely place to work"...
Where everyone enjoyed camaraderie and teamwork and enjoyed fulfilment from a job well done...
We love the feeling of becoming part of the extended family of our clients...
Working together to ensure both the patient and owner is taken care of with genuine warmth, integrity and compassion.
So What's It Like To Be A Grad With Us...?
I just love watching a new graduate develop professionally and personally...
To watch them spread their wings as their confidence grows just never gets old!
I could tell you how amazing we are but it's better to hear what past new graduates would tell you...
“I started as a new grad from The Netherlands and experienced an ideal place to learn the job. Hands on, enough tools to work up more challenging cases, very friendly supporting staff with a low threshold to ask for back-up or advice.”
Dr Vera Bavinck Drs, Drs, MVS“I worked at Coral Coast Vet as a new graduate. I can honestly say I couldn't have asked for a more supportive boss and team to work with. Being a new graduate is challenging. It is imperative that you find a clinic owner who will not only offer you mentorship but who also understands the importance of your mental well being. Karen was definitely this person for me. Also Innisfail is a great place to begin your Veterinary career. You see a wide range of emergency, medical and surgical cases (and can to refer if necessary.)”
Dr Kirsten Court BVSc
Both Vera and Kirsten have moved on to enjoy incredible careers in their fields of interest.
"It Sounds Good But..."
"Innisfail is a long way away..."
- It is! And we take extra time to ensure your relocation is a smooth experience!
- If you like a laid back outdoor lifestyle with 'the reef right there' then you will love it!
- Not to mention you will get experience that 'big city' clinics never see.
"I'm worried I will be left on my own!"
- Put simply... No! You will be supported every step of the way. We have an induction program that provides you to be challenged in a safe and secure environment.
- There are also 3 experienced vets at your beck and call!
"What sort of experience will I get?"
- As a regional small animal general practice the case load can be like a 'hamburger with the lot'...
- This means you will get to observe and play a role in a wide variety of cases...
- And as you can see from our past grads they have used their time with us valuably!
Please click here to see photos!
If you have the passion, enthusiasm and excitement to learn and grow with us then I would love to chat...
If it is an opportunity that is worth exploring further for both of us then I'm sure we'll both know it!

TOOWOOMBA - SMALL ANIMAL
The best GP Vet job available right now...
In the world...
Well, maybe Australia...
Probably Queensland...
But DEFINITELY Toowoomba!
(Or at least we think so!)
G'day I'm Louis...
Together with my mate Dave we own Toowoomba Family Vets and Red Vets (it's sister emergency clinic).
I've been in the game more than 20 years now. I reckon I have made it this far based on three key things:
1) I genuinely love what I do and I genuinely love helping people (and their pets);
2) I have always taken pride in doing my best (even in the most challenging of cases);
3) I love to have fun and a good laugh!
Dr Dave and I have been part of the Toowoomba community for years. In fact, I grew up here...
So we have been able to create a practice that...
- Clients not only value their pets but value their vets!
- Enjoys long lasting relationships with amazing owners and their lovable pets...
- Has a fulfilling mixture of consulting, surgery, and hospital…
- Is a true like-minded team of professionals with a focus on shared responsibility.
By now you might think it sounds perfect...
It's not. BUT it is pretty darn good!
We'd like you to consider joining us in the adventure of making it even better!

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Toowoomba Family Vets and REDvets for over 3 years. This clinic is collaborative and supportive, all the vets look out for each other, and help is only a phone call away. We also have amazing support staff that you can trust to take the best care of your patients, help run diagnostic tests, and keep all the wheels turning. “Looking towards graduation last November I was hoping to find a vet role that was stimulating, encouraging, supportive with the goal of providing the best patient care. I initially believed these were somewhat unattainable, but I’m beyond pleased to say that’s exactly what I have found at REDvets. I have been presented with the perfect balance between mentoring and independence on both medical and surgical cases, which has provided a steep learning curve in all aspects of being a vet. For the opportunities I’ve been given and the continued support from all the senior vets, nurses and other team members I am extremely grateful.”
