BOWEN, WHITSUNDAYS - LEAD VET MAINLY SMALL ANIMAL, SOME LARGE

Lead Veterinarian
Greater Whitsunday Vet Services | Whitsundays, Queensland
Some Vets Want a Great Clinical Job.
Others Want to Help Build a Great Practice.
If you're the second kind, keep reading.
We're five years into building Greater Whitsunday Vet Services.
We're proud of what we've created.
But we're nowhere near finished.
We're looking for an experienced veterinarian who loves great medicine, raises the standard of the people around them, and can't help but see ways to make things better.
Not someone who simply wants a title.
A leader.
A builder.
And a bloody good vet.
You Might Be Our Kind of Person If...
You lead through what you do, not through what your position description says...
You take ownership of your cases...
You communicate clearly...
You enjoy helping other people become better...
You welcome feedback...
And when you see something that could work better, your instinct isn't to complain about it...
It's to improve it.
Because leadership here isn't about telling people what to do.
It's about raising the standard.
We Believe Great Systems Create Better Medicine
We're not interested in individual heroics.
A great practice shouldn't rely on people running faster just to survive the day.
It should run well.
That's why we put real thought into our systems.
One example is our consult model, where nurses work alongside vets throughout the consultation.
It means better use of our nurses.
Better communication with clients.
Greater efficiency.
And more time for our vets to focus on the work that needs their expertise.
We're always looking for ways to improve the practice.
And we'd expect you to be part of that.
Please click here to see photos! ![]()
Great Medicine Still Comes First
Your caseload will be mainly small-animal, with some large-animal work.
You'll become part of a regional community where people know you, trust you and may ask you to care for generations of their animals.
We take that responsibility seriously.
Give great advice.
Explain it clearly.
Help people make informed choices.
Then respect the decision they make.
Simple.
This Role Can Grow with You
This isn't a role we expect you to outgrow.
As the practice grows, so can your influence.
You may help shape our clinical systems.
Mentor vets and nurses.
Raise our standards.
Improve the way we work.
And help build the next version of Greater Whitsunday Vet Services.
All while continuing to do the clinical work you love.
And yes... You Get to Live in the Whitsundays!
There's also the small matter of where you'll be doing all this.
The Whitsundays.
One of the most spectacular parts of Australia.
So, when you're not helping us build a great veterinary practice, there's a pretty extraordinary life waiting outside it too.
Remuneration
We believe your pay should reflect the value you bring.
Your package will reflect your experience, clinical ability and leadership contribution.
And as your impact grows, so should your opportunities.
Interested?
Don't worry about polishing your CV just yet.
If you've read this and thought:
"That sounds like me."
Call us on (07) 4786 1010 or email jason@vetwhitsundays.com.au and georgia@vetwhitsundays.com.au.
Let's have a conversation.
Great career decisions rarely start with paperwork.
They start with a chat.
GLADSTONE/TANNUM SANDS, CENTRAL COASTAL - SMALL ANIMAL, CLINICAL VET TRAINER
Veterinary Trainer – Harbour City Veterinary Surgery and Boyne Tannum Veterinary Surgery, Gladstone Region, QLD
Not every veterinarian wants to step away from clinical work to focus on training. And not every clinic has the caseload needed to properly support and develop new graduates.
This role sits in the space between full time clinical work and dedicated training.
We are creating a new Veterinary Trainer position across our Harbour City and Boyne Tannum Veterinary Clinics, designed for an experienced companion animal vet who wants to stay clinically active while playing a key role in developing the next generation of veterinarians.
This is a hands-on training role in two busy clinics, working directly alongside new graduates and limited registration veterinarians to build their confidence, clinical ability and decision making.
About the clinics
Harbour City and Boyne Tannum are well established small animal clinics with strong caseloads and experienced teams. Each clinic has its own established team and workflow, but together they operate as a connected group that supports each other and shares knowledge.
We are also building a brand-new purpose-built clinic in Gladstone, giving you the chance to be involved in shaping how training and clinical support will look into the future.
Please click here to see photos! ![]()
The position
This is a 12-month fixed term contract commencing in November or December 2026, with the opportunity to stay on longer if it is the right fit for you and the team.
The role has a balanced focus:
Approximately 50 percent clinical work
Approximately 50 percent mentoring and training
You will:
- Work across both clinic locations
- Train and support new graduates and limited registration veterinarians in day-to-day practice
- Focus on building practical clinical skills, not just theory
- Provide hands on guidance in consults, surgery and case management
- Be part of the weekend and on call roster alongside the wider team
This is not a classroom role. It is about teaching in the moment, within a busy clinical environment, and helping vets build confidence quickly.
About you
This role is suited to an experienced veterinarian who enjoys developing others.
You will bring:
- Minimum 5 years clinical experience
- Confidence and competence across all areas of general practice medicine and surgery
- A strong interest in mentoring and teaching in a practical, hands-on way
You are someone who:
- Enjoys helping others improve and succeed
- Communicates clearly and gives practical, constructive feedback
- Is comfortable working across different clinic environments and is adaptable to different styles of veterinary medicine
- Values good medicine, good teamwork and continual improvement
Remuneration and benefits
Salary: $130,000-$150,000 per annum plus superannuation, dependent on experience and skillset
Generous after-hours remuneration in addition
What we offer
- Share accommodation available if relocating
- A structured role that balances clinical work with dedicated mentoring time
- The opportunity to help shape a new role and approach to graduate training
- Strong support from both clinic teams and the broader Apiam network
- Access to internal training
- Employee Assistance Program and staff discounts across clinics and retail partners
- A varied caseload that will keep you engaged and challenged
If you are looking for a role where you can continue practising as a veterinarian while making a real impact on the development of others, this is a unique opportunity to do both.
Contact Corinne at corinne.warnick@apiam.com.au for more information or to apply for the position.
GYMPIE, WIDE BAY BURNETT REGION - SMALL ANIMAL IN MIXED PRACTICE
New Position

Full-time New Graduate Small Animal Veterinarian
Commencing early 2027
Gympie Veterinary Services is a well-regarded mixed veterinary practice that has been serving the local community for over 40 years. During that time we have grown and evolved and pride ourselves on providing high-quality veterinary care to the Gympie region.
Our newly renovated main hospital is an impressive facility with multiple consult rooms, surgical suites, and treatment and recovery areas. The clinic is equipped with the latest diagnostic tools, such as digital X-ray, ultrasound machine, advanced dental equipment and in-house lab machines. We also have branch clinics in Tin Can Bay and Murgon.
Please click here to see photos! ![]()
We are fortunate to work with a loyal and engaged community of small animal owners who trust us with their pets’ care. Our clinic is known for delivering a high standard of service, with the capability to diagnose and treat the majority of cases in-house thanks to our advanced equipment and experienced veterinary team.
Gympie offers the best of both worlds:
- The convenience and amenities of a regional town
- Easy access to the stunning Queensland coastline
- A friendly, welcoming, and close-knit community
About the position:
- Full-time position
- 100% Companion Animal
- After hours (when you are ready) is shared amongst the staff and well remunerated - and is only until 10pm and after 7am, supported by a Teletriage service to filter calls
About you:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and well-rounded new graduate veterinarian who:
- Is passionate about regional practice - keen to build a career somewhere you know your clients and their animals by name, and where your work visibly matters to the town
- Wants to be part of a close-knit team - someone who is comfortable asking for a second opinion, a hand in surgery, or a sanity check on a tricky consult
- Is keen to get hands-on with our equipment and to work up cases properly rather than send the interesting ones elsewhere
- Wants a broad companion animal caseload - routine desexings and dentals through to medicine work-ups and the odd surprise that walks in the door in a regional town
- Takes feedback on board, asks questions early rather than late, and will make the most of a mentor who has time for them
- Has strong communication skills and can talk to clients honestly and warmly, including through the difficult conversations - many of our Gympie families have been with us for generations, and the relationship matters as much as the medicine
- Is compassionate - with patients, owners, and with the team working alongside them
Graduate support and mentoring:
We know the first years out are the ones that shape your career, so you won’t be doing it alone. As a graduate with Gympie Veterinary Services and the wider Apiam network, you’ll have:
- A dedicated mentor from day one, with structured check-ins, case discussions and support on the floor as you find your feet
- Access to the Apiam Graduate Retreat, bringing grads from across the network together for hands-on learning, skills sessions and peer connection (and a whole lot of fun)
- Monthly coaching sessions to debrief, work through cases and set goals
- Additional CPD allowance over and above our standard offering, plus access to Apiam’s internal training programs and clinical webinars
- A supportive team of experienced veterinarians and nurses who are always happy to be asked a question
Salary and Benefits:
- Generous salary package including a base salary of $75,000 + super + on call pay: 50% of professional fees
- Paid VSB registration + professional membership support
- Paid parental leave beyond government schemes
- As well as benefits to help you manage your work-life balance including:
- Employee Assistance Program with confidential counselling support
- Retail, travel, and lifestyle discounts (including gym memberships)
- Generous staff discounts on veterinary services and products
As part of Apiam Animal Health, you’ll also have access to industry leading training and development programs, and genuine long term career progression pathways.

CRAIGLIE, PORT DOUGLAS - SMALL ANIMAL New Position

Wanted: Permanent Vet with a 4 Day Work Week
Salary Package: $130k+
Start Date: Flexible
- Do you want to prioritise balance, where you get excited about your work and your growth, without it dominating the other pillars of your life?
- Are you a vet with a growth mindset and a commitment to clinical excellence?
- Do you thrive as part of a capable team, where you can delegate confidently and focus on the higher levels of veterinary care?
If this sounds like you, we have a rare opportunity for a permanent (4-day workweek) Small Animal Veterinarian in beautiful Port Douglas, Far North QLD.
Why Join Us?
We truly value and invest in workplace culture. Our team supports each other and has fun while staying effective, efficient and professional.
We are committed to providing the optimal environment for vets to perform their best clinical work. You will be well supported by other vets and support staff. You will be given the time and space to pursue clinical interests.
We have all the tools to help you prosper, and well-defined systems and support staff that will free up your time and headspace so you can focus on the patients under your care. We want you to grow as a veterinarian and a leader.
We are a fresh, progressive clinic with modern equipment, working in a spacious, purpose-built facility that fosters a pleasant work environment and optimal efficiency.
About The Role and the Workplace
Port Douglas Vets is a privately owned, family-friendly clinic. We are a newer clinic in a purpose-built facility with a fantastic team of two vets (building to three vets) and seven support staff.
The role is small animal only, with no after-hours or weekend work.
Our caseload is high-end general practice, with visiting specialists in Cairns for referrals and a visiting surgeon performing orthopaedics in-house. We’re open to investing in equipment and services that support the successful candidate’s clinical interests. The shifts are either consult-focused or procedure-focused. As the procedure vet, you will usually have 2-3 very capable nurses supporting you. As the consulting vet, you will typically have 2 rooms and dedicated support staff, allowing for a smooth workflow and in-house diagnostics as you go. Complex workups and hospital cases can be handed over to the procedure staff, or there is usually time available in the afternoon for the consult vet to do their own workups.

Every day starts with morning rounds after admissions, and there is usually an afternoon huddle prior to afternoon consults and discharges. We have a team-focused philosophy, and while everyone has their own responsibilities, we believe strongly in a collaborative approach and try to ensure the entire team is across procedural and hospital cases, as well as the planned day structure.
We enjoy a less hierarchical and more egalitarian working environment. We have regular staff meetings where everyone's input is valued and considered. The staff meetings provide the framework for a culture of constant collaborative improvement.
About You
Some experience is necessary for this role, but your other qualities are prioritised over the number of years since you graduated.
Above all, you truly value and nurture a positive and team-focused workplace culture. You can align with our core values of quality, compassion and care.
You find value not only in optimising patient care, but also in understanding and enriching the client's experience throughout the veterinary process.

MARBURG/ANSTEAD, LOCKYER VALLEY/BRISBANE WEST - EQUINE New Position
Full-Time Equine Veterinarian
WestVETS Equine Hospital | Brisbane, QLD
Ready for a caseload that never lets you get bored?
Picture this: one morning you're floating teeth on a pleasure horse in the paddock, that afternoon you're scoping an upper airway in the hospital, and by evening you're out on an after-hours colic call under the stars.
That's life at WestVETS. We're a predominantly equine practice split across two purpose-built sites — our main hospital at Anstead and a 65-acre Equine Reproduction Centre at Marburg — and we're looking for a vet who wants real variety, real mentorship, and a real career, not just a job. Candidates with an interest in hobby farm animals such as camelids, small ruminants and cattle may find this role particularly appealing — though large animal work is not a requirement of the role.
Please click here to see photos! ![]()
The Work
- First-opinion ambulatory work, with a strong focus on preventative healthcare and performance dentistry
- Lameness workups and performance consults
- Sport horse and geriatric medicine
- Emergencies that keep you sharp — colic, choke, ophthalmology, lacerations
- After-hours hospital and ambulatory cases
- Hobby farm animal work depending on experience level and comfort with mentorship supplied.
Roughly 80% of our ambulatory caseload is sport and pleasure horse cases — warmbloods, quarter horses, pleasure horses — while hospital and referral work is a 50/50 mix of racing and non-racing.
Who We're After
- Experienced equine vets welcome — we also welcome veterinarians straight out of an internship.
- Curious, driven, and keen to grow across medicine, surgery, reproduction and lameness
- A strong communicator who puts patient care first
- In it for the long haul, with an eye on real career progression
- Holds, or is eligible to hold, current QLD veterinary registration
You Won't Be Figuring This Out Alone
Our clinicians bring over 100 years of combined experience between them, spanning surgery, internal medicine, sports medicine, reproduction and stud medicine — including specialists in surgery and internal medicine. Case discussion is part of our culture, not an afterthought. Ask questions. Get answers. Grow.
We back that up with:
- VetPD courses and AVA/EVA continuing education
- A fortnightly journal club at Anstead
- The Altano Network and Altano Academy
- CoVet AI scribe access
- Study time and financial support toward further qualifications
The Kit
Surgical theatre, ICU stables, isolation facilities, an in-house lab (SAA, Wellness Ready Insulin, urinalysis), and in-house ProStride, Alpha-2 Macroglobulin, Shockwave and Class IV laser therapy. On the diagnostics side: digital radiography, ultrasound, gastroscopy/endoscopy, dynamic upper airway endoscopy, oroscope and Equinosis Lameness Locator.
Take a look inside — facility photos here
What's In It for You
- Competitive salary, above industry award and matched to your experience
- A 4.5-day working week
- 1-in-4 after-hours roster with afterhour bonuses
- A day in lieu for every weekend day you're on call
- Continuing education allowance
- Real support for further qualifications and career growth
- WestVETS Anstead is located 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD and Brisbane International Airport which means you get the benefit of working on horses but still enjoy city amenities!
- Brisbane is home to 2032 Olympics and a great place to live and work!

MARBURG/ANSTEAD, LOCKYER VALLEY/BRISBANE WEST - MIXED
New Position
Mixed Animal Veterinarian – Full-Time
WestVETS Animal Hospital | Brisbane West & Lockyer Valley
Anstead | Marburg
About Us
What started as a single-vet practice on the outskirts of Brisbane has grown into two clinical centres — an Equine Hospital and Small Animal Clinic at Anstead, and an Equine Reproduction Centre and Small Animal Clinic at Marburg, which together make up WestVETS Animal Hospitals.
WestVETS employs a team of over 20 veterinarians plus 90 support staff across both clinical centres. We pride ourselves on a strong team culture which helps make working at WestVETS an enjoyable experience, reflected in a low staff turnover. We strive to be the best we can be as individuals while contributing to the greater team.
The Role
The mixed veterinarian role is a genuine mixed role — not small animal with the occasional farm call. We're talking real variety, real challenge, and real satisfaction. Every day is truly different.
Your caseload will include:
- Small animal: From first puppy visits to geriatrics, Caesareans to orthopaedics, emergency care to routine visits — you will enjoy a varied caseload with plenty of backup from senior veterinarians. We are also a 40-minute drive from three emergency centres.
- Equine: This role suits someone who enjoys providing primary opinion care to a wide variety of clientele, with the ability to refer for surgery, medicine or reproductive work. With broad equine clinical knowledge across both clinics, there is usually someone who can help you through whatever you encounter on the road.
- Ruminants and camelids: Herd visits, dystocias, neonatology.
- Emergency and after-hours care: Fully supported by senior veterinarians.
- A manageable 1-in-4 on-call roster.
Whether you're fresh out of vet school or a seasoned mixed-practice clinician, this role can be shaped around you and your clinical interests.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary commensurate with experience
- After-hours bonus payments on top of your base salary
- Days off in lieu of working a weekend
- 4.5-day work week
- CPD allowance to keep growing clinically
- Altano Network access — a large international clinician network for case discussions, with access to experienced Altano vets worldwide
- CoVet AI — an intelligent clinical note and consultation recording tool, so you spend less time on paperwork and more time on patients
- Free VetPD library access — webinars, panel discussions and lecture series, including resources for those exploring College pathways
Our Facilities
Both hospitals are purpose-built and well-equipped — with all the tools you would expect from a modern multidisciplinary practice, and then some.
Please click here to see photos! ![]()
Our Team
You will be backed by a team of skilled veterinary nurses and technicians who take anaesthetic monitoring, patient care and client communication seriously — so you can focus on doing your best clinical work.
If you want clinical backup, we have a large variety of veterinarians including boarded surgeons and internal medicine specialists, in addition to our senior clinical veterinarian team who have over 100 years of combined experience between them.
Who We're Looking For
We welcome applications from veterinarians at all stages of their career.
New Graduates
- Structured mentorship from highly experienced clinicians
- A supported learning environment across all levels of the WestVETS team
- Case discussion is part of the culture — not an exception to it
Experienced Vets
- Clinical autonomy and genuine case continuity
- Space to develop and pursue your special interests
- Collaborative peers who enjoy discussing interesting cases
Weekends & After-Hours
We will be upfront — contributing to weekend work is part of this role. Senior vets are available to discuss cases and you are never left to sink or swim.
That might look like working Saturdays, participating in the 1-in-4 on-call roster, or a combination of both. We know weekends matter, which is exactly why we share the load fairly — no one gets stuck with every Saturday morning. When you do work a weekend, you will receive two days in lieu so your time off is protected.
After-hours work is recognised with bonus payments, because your time outside of business hours deserves to be valued.
Requirements
- Veterinary degree recognised in Australia
- Current Queensland registration, or eligibility to register
- Three professional references or referee contact details
- Willingness to contribute to Saturday work and/or the 1-in-4 on-call roster
Applicants must be eligible for veterinary registration in Queensland to be considered.
Why WestVETS?
The best way to see if we are a good fit is to come and visit. You can meet the team and see how we work. We also encourage you to speak with current or past team members.
Our team is made up of vets and support staff who are enthusiastic, collaborative and genuinely invested in each other's success. We ask questions, share knowledge and back one another.

Not because you wanted to process appointments.
Not because you wanted to spend your days fighting inefficient processes, carrying unnecessary administrative tasks, or working in a clinic where every vet practises differently.
You became a vet because you wanted to help patients, solve problems, keep learning, and make a genuine difference.
If that still sounds like you, keep reading.

Why this role exists
We've built a clinic where great medicine isn't left to chance.
Our vets work to consistent standards of care, collaborate openly, discuss cases regularly, and continually challenge each other to improve.
We believe patients deserve more than opinions.
They deserve investigation, discussion, advocacy, and a team committed to finding the best possible outcome.
We're always asking:
Could we do this better?
Is there another option for this patient?
Are we truly advocating for the best outcome?
We don't believe in ownership of cases. We believe in ownership of outcomes.
One of the unwritten rules in many clinics is that once a case belongs to a vet, everyone else stays in their lane.
That's not how we work.
We discuss cases constantly. We ask questions. We challenge each other's thinking. We share ideas freely.
Not because we don't trust each other.
Because we care more about the patient than about being right.
If a patient can benefit from another perspective, they'll get it.
If a colleague has a better idea, we'll listen.
If there's a higher standard available, we'll pursue it.
That culture of collaboration has become one of the things our vets value most.
What that looks like in real life
A young dog presented with a persistent limp.
It would have been easy to prescribe anti-inflammatories and monitor progress.
Instead, the case was investigated properly. Radiographs led to further concerns, a bone biopsy was performed, and bone cancer was diagnosed.
Not the outcome anyone hoped for, but it gave the family answers and allowed informed decisions to be made much earlier.
That's the sort of medicine we believe in.
Not doing more for the sake of it.
Doing what the patient needs.
The same philosophy applies to our people.
One of our graduate vets joined us at the start of her career. Through mentoring, case discussions, additional training, and plenty of support, she developed into a confident clinician with strong diagnostic skills and excellent client communication.
One of the most rewarding moments has been watching her realise just how capable she is.
The kind of vet who will thrive here
You communicate clearly.
You value systems, protocols, and clear expectations because you understand consistency creates better outcomes for patients, clients, and the team.
You enjoy diagnostics and working cases up properly rather than applying temporary fixes and hoping for the best.
Ultrasound skills would be welcomed, but curiosity and clinical reasoning matter more.
You value dental care and understand the role dental radiology plays in good patient outcomes.
You advocate for patients rather than acting as a wallet guardian.
You're confident working independently but comfortable asking questions, accepting feedback, and sharing ideas.
Most importantly, you enjoy being part of a team.
You contribute.
You collaborate.
You help others grow.
Why people choose to stay
Our vets are supported by highly capable nurses and admin staff.
Nurses assist with patient preparation, venipuncture, diagnostics, hospital care, anaesthesia, and patient advocacy.
Our admin team helps with estimates, bookings, client communication, and workflow management.
We utilise AI-assisted note taking and systems designed to improve efficiency.
The result is simple.
Our vets get to spend more time being veterinarians.
We've also created a workplace people genuinely enjoy coming to.
The clinic sits on acreage with fresh air, open space, and beautiful views in every direction. It's a calm environment that feels very different from the typical veterinary workplace.
The practice was built from the ground up by owners who remain heavily invested in the success of both the business and the people within it.
We celebrate achievements, support development, and acknowledge great work when we see it.
The Reality
This is a four-day work week with one Saturday in four.
There is no after-hours work.
We finish on time because we have systems, support, and a team committed to working efficiently.
This role will suit someone who wants to keep learning, keep improving, and keep contributing.
If you're looking for a clinic where you can keep your head down, avoid case discussions, treat symptoms without investigating causes, or practise exactly as you did ten years ago, this isn't the right fit.
We're looking for a vet who still cares about becoming better next year than they are today.
Money
We pay above award and recognise experience, capability, and contribution.
Remuneration will reflect your experience, skills, and what you bring to the team.
Let's keep this simple
If this sounds like the sort of clinic you've been looking for, we'd love to talk.
