EAST BUNDABERG, WIDE BAY BURNETT REGION - SMALL ANIMAL
East Bundaberg Veterinary Hospital - Veterinarian required
Position for a motivated veterinarian who wants to work in a comfortable well-equipped air-conditioned purpose-built small animal veterinary hospital being supported by well trained and caring nursing staff as well as extensively experienced and qualified veterinarians.
We would encourage both experienced veterinarians and new graduate veterinarians to apply for this position.
We are a 3.7-veterinarian business wanting to expand. We enjoy a friendly relationship with our clients, and we have an exceptional reputation for excellence and for results. Our workload revolves around dogs (70%), cats (25%) and avian (5%).
We are NOT a corporate business, we are privately owned and operated. Our primary role is to assist animals in their journey of life as well as making sure we enjoy our professional life and balance it with time away from the business.
We believe that to offer a high level of animal care we must have the time to discuss problems with the owners as well as time to examine the patient and time to do appropriate tests or treatments and discuss the outcomes with the owners. Consequently, we do not “pump through” our clientele and their furry friends.
We believe coming to work must be enjoyable for all staff members and we encourage each member of the staff to achieve the level of expertise and comfort that they have set for themselves. We encourage further education for all our veterinary staff and that includes conference leave (when we can get to conferences) every year, webinars, seminars, discussion between vets, membership to organisations such as the AVA and VIN and extensive library material both on computers and well as books and journals.
Please click here to see photos!
We hold staff meetings every week and we have a vet meeting every morning before work where any problems or queries can be discussed and (hopefully) solutions found. We have active participation in our puppy preschool as well as dog walks every month and puppy reunions every 3 months.
Veterinary Science, to us, is a way of life and we are looking for that caring qualified person who wants to join our team and develop their professional and personal skills to a high level.
We could go on and on about the equipment and the hospital itself, we could go on and on about Bundaberg and the surrounding areas with all its facilities. But you can get all the information you need by going onto the internet at our site www.eastbundabergvet.com.auor www.bundabergregion.org or you could open up Facebook and look at our site or the Bundaberg tourism site.
What are we offering to do for the successful applicant?
- This is a full-time position.
- Half Day off each week
- 6 weeks holiday every year.
- 1 week conference leave every year.
- After working on a weekend, our vets get a 4-day break on the following weekend
- All afterhours is on a rotational basis with other full-time staff members (we have a very low level of afterhours calls
- Constant support (including in afterhours work) if required (depends on level of experience, expertise and the level of confidence in the successful applicant)
- Pay an “above award” wage in the 3-month trial period (wage starts at $80,000.00 for new graduate or 1st year graduate and goes up according to experience) and then negotiate a wage that is commensurate with your experience and expertise once the trial period is over.
What do we want in return?
- Enthusiasm for health and wellbeing of our patients
- Enthusiasm for successful outcomes to treatments as well as preventions
- Enthusiasm for profession and ongoing education
- Enthusiasm for the ongoing success of the business
- Enthusiasm to work in a team.
- Sense of humour and have the ability to laugh at oneself.
- Want to assist other staff members and participate in out-of- hour activities.
- Have an open mind with new ideas and new concepts of animal health care.
- Ability to leave your ego at the door when you enter.
- Ability to laugh WITH the staff and clients and not laugh AT the staff and clients.
- Have a positive attitude to life in general and to look to the future with wonder and excitement.

WESTBROOK, TOOWOOMBA - SMALL ANIMAL
We are an independent, local, family owned, small animal Veterinary Practice, looking for a veterinarian to join our close-knit team, we are after someone that shares our ideals of having a healthy work/life balance as well as a strong passion for the animal healthcare industry. The role is offered as full time or part time, dependant on the successful applicants’ requirements. Experience is preferred however New Grads are encouraged to apply.
What does life look like at Westbrook Veterinary Surgery?
Every pet gets a minimum 20 - 30 min consult – this allows us to take our time not feel rushed and provide the quality care that our clients love.
We don’t believe in the ‘hard sell’ approach, no staff member is judged based on an ATV, we give genuine, honest recommendations and pride ourselves in the aftercare we provide.
Lunch breaks are paid and taken, we appreciate that sometimes things get hectic, but we still ensure everyone gets a break, we also have a well-stocked snack cupboard for those quick refuels in between.
We go out of our way on those ‘tough days’ to say thanks to those that have been there with us and helped get us through.
We enjoy going to trivia nights and doing crosswords together because we like hanging out together, not because it is a set ‘team building’ activity devised by the management team.
We encourage additional learnings and will support anyone in gaining further knowledge, from ‘lunch n learn’ opportunities during work hours to attendance of seminars or webinar access where possible.
Don’t get us wrong- just because we are small, and we like to be friends- that doesn’t mean we cut corners or don’t provide quality care. It just means we don’t put the dollars before our team’s wellbeing. Being owned by an independent and caring owner means she created this business to provide an environment where she loves coming to work every day and sharing time with similar minded people that want to help the pets in our community.
We are a modern and progressive team, with all the toys and support you need to do your job. Some of our current equipment includes a digital x-ray machine, ultrasound, fully decked out dental suite and dental x-ray machine, not to mention a great team of experienced and capable nurses to assist you along the way. Being part of the community sits high on our list of priorities, which also means we encourage you to have out of work activities and will work with you to create a roster that fits your lifestyle.
If you want to hear more about us or the role, get in touch via email or give the clinic a ring and ask any of our team. We realise this all sounds too good to be true – and may even be saying we have heard it all before. There is nothing we can say or do to convince you other than to challenge you. If your current role isn’t providing an environment for you to thrive take the 10 minutes out of your day to talk to us and see what you think.

BILOELA - MIXED PRACTICE - MATERNITY / PERMANENT
ARE YOU A MIXED VET LOOKING FOR MORE?
THE NEXT 2 MINUTES COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
Hello! I’m Doctor Katie,
I grew up locally on a cattle farm. Country life and me are like peas and carrots. When all the other kids were playing netball or football, I was out riding my horse.
Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to become a vet. I can remember I loved peeking wide-eyed over the rails in awe when our family vet came to visit. I was fascinated by what they could do, to me it was like watching miracles happen (and 6 year old me was right, being a vet was pretty special).
We have a special opportunity for the right person. The type of opportunity that doesn’t come around all that often………..if you’re up for it?
One of our vets is going on maternity leave, so we are able to offer a rare opportunity for a new vet to join our team. This position is flexible; 6 – 12 months of maternity leave fill in, and if you love our clinic stay on full time! We are a growing clinic that is looking for our next superstar! The position would be perfect for you if:
- If you love the opportunity to invite some variety in your days. Out visiting a cattle property one day, horse dentals and mare scans the next, then spend a couple of days in clinic doing small animal consultations and surgery?
- Like to be paid an amazing salary?
- Have a thirst for knowledge and like to attend conferences and seminars?
- Have a special interest you’d like to develop?
- You enjoy clients that enable you to work up cases where financial constraints are uncommon?
- Crave an experience that you’ll remember fondly?
If you want something better, then what's holding you back?
Please click here to see photos!
Here’s what makes our offer so good!
- 4 day work week
- 5 weeks annual leave
- Excellent salary
- Allocated CPD budget
- Tight knit team
- Opportunities like these don’t come along in our clinic very often
Sounds amazing? Then read on…
Here is a chance to join a practice where you can undertake 50/50 large and small animal, with the option of pursuing a special interest in any field. Our team is cohesive, well trained and a ‘can do’ attitude. The potential to upskill and give everything a go will be limited only by your imagination.
- Lead a team that provides a high quality and well rounded service to the local community
- Create a workplace that staff truly enjoy, where they want to come to work every day
- Compensate staff generously for their time spent on call not only financially, but with a regular weekly RDO – work life balance is essential
Our team can provide references for you! So don’t take my word for it, we’ll be happy for you to ask them how great our practice is for yourself! AND….. If you reach up for a chat, we like to guarantee that all enquiries and conversations are kept private and confidential.

The positions available are very flexible and could either be a full time or part time position or a casual position. Experienced veterinarians, and or new or recent graduates will be considered for the positions with continued support and mentoring provided.
We are a small but dedicated team of 2 vets and 4 nurses, and we pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and practicing a high quality of veterinary medicine and surgery to our friendly and loyal clientele. You will be working in a friendly and relaxed environment with an experienced team of supportive staff. The clinic is currently a mix of approximately 80% small animals and 20% large animals (horses, cattle, sheep and goats).
Our veterinary hospital is equipped with modern technology including a digital x-ray machine, an ultrasound, a dental x-ray machine and im3 dental unit. We do take some of the stress out of being the vet on call by having a great team of very experienced nurses who are on call with you, but most importantly they take and answer the afterhours phone which means that you will only get a call from the afterhours nurse if they need further advice or in an event of an emergency. A work car will be provided for on call use.
We have always been supportive of a great work-life balance and think that this is essential for a rewarding career in this profession; therefore, our rosters and hours are very flexible. You may like to work 2 days a week or 5 days a week or even just 1 week a month. An additional bonus will be paid after the initial 3 months once you decide that this is the job for you. You will be given 1 weeks paid study leave and $5000 to spend on continuing education in addition to 4 weeks holiday leave each year (based on full time hours). I have been presented with the perfect balance between mentoring and independence on both medical and surgical cases, which has provided a steep learning curve in all aspects of being a vet. For the opportunities I’ve been given and the continued support from all the senior vets, nurses and other team members I am extremely grateful.”

ANDERGROVE, MACKAY - SMALL ANIMAL
There has to be more than this?
Is this what being a vet looks like?
What about Balance? Why do I get anxious?
How do I let go of the day that I have had so I don’t bring it home and can sleep without the worrying.
Are there teams out there that are nice to each other, support each other and have some fun?
Is work not meant to be fun?
There is no doubt that the veterinary landscape has changed and is constantly changing. Clients expect more and seem more stressed, teams more anxious and less emotionally connected. That can make any day challenging!
Please click here to see photos!
THINGS CAN BE DIFFERENT.
IF ANY OF THE BELOW RESONATES WITH YOU…..WHY NOT APPLY?
- You are a lover of sunshine, beaches, camping, exploring and the outdoors!
- You like to be busy! A quiet day every now and then to catch your breath is ok but you like a day that does not drag on. Purpose is good…it feels good.
- You are a social person who likes to interact with and appreciate not only your friends and family, but also the people who you work with. "People that play together stay together!"
- HOLIDAYS! They are part of our mental health plan- where is your next holiday? The airport is only a 20 minute drive away and JETSTAR/QANTAS AND VIRGIN ALL FLY FROM HERE! Bali for a relaxing holiday? NZ for a hiking or skiing holiday?
- You want to be appreciated for the effort you put in every day! You’re not high maintenance but you like to be part of a team that supports and appreciates each other and lets people know when they have done a great job.
- You also accept that not everything always goes to plan and a debrief and coaching chat about possible ways forward to make things better is also appreciated. You don’t like people who yell or use emotional manipulation as part of a management tool. You don’t mind feedback but as respect and integrity is part of who you are you feel this needs to be delivered appropriately.
- You have seen those new and shiny hospitals where everything has a place, everything is labelled, new and clean, maybe even double height ceilings so you can have a sense of space, it is purposely designed for work flow and is all sound proofed…and one day you promised yourself you would work in one.
- You’ve heard of or experienced the benefits of team consulting with dedicated consult nurses and no longer want to struggle to handle patients by yourself, or stay behind at the end of the day finishing consult notes.
- You don’t mind that the equipment breaks from time to time…but it is really hard to do your job if it does not get fixed or its just dodge.
- You want to learn…but with support. Not be left to your own devices out of your comfort zone- high and dry. You want to be more confident at working up medicine cases or maybe you have more of a surgical interest? Which would you prefer? Maybe a bit of both?
- Vet dinners: you have heard they are great fun and although you are not sure about your own cooking you are willing to give it a go! Talking about cases, learning about information someone got from a conference with a sprinkle of laughing and fun. That sounds good.
YOU CAN HAVE A BALANCED REWARDING CAREER…LET US SHOW YOU HOW!
Our package is well above award and above all - not only will we pay you well we will invest in you with our time, energy and resources to help you be the best version of yourself. The team’s wellness is our priority and if you are part of our team…that incudes you!
The nitty gritty:
- We are currently a 8 FT, 4 PT veterinary team.
- Full time is a 4 day working week + currently 1:6 Saturdays. Weekends on call are currently 1:6 with a 4 day weekend off following your weekend on call. 1 midweek night on call every 1 – 2 weeks. Generous remuneration for on call work in addition to your base salary.
- $80,000 - $110,000 salary on offer depending on experience
- 1 week study leave and above standard CPD allowances apply. CPD allowance $1500 plus access to the Veterinary Training Centre, which can be up to the value of $10k
