Here is what our lovely nurse Brie has to say about working for AMV:
“I have been working at AMV for over 6 years now, I could not imagine working anywhere else. We truly are a little family, yes it may sound cheesy, but the team are not only here to support me, but we have all become lifelong friends. Being mobile is completely different to being in clinic, I love it and would choose being mobile over being in clinic any day. I thrive on the day-to-day challenges, personal rapport building with clients, driving around the sights of Sydney, and finding new cafes for lunch or a coffee is a bonus. Our service is tailored and offers a personable consultation in their own home or in our fully decked out mobile consultation van, overall providing our client’s and patients a more relaxed and happier vet visit. I love the mobile vet lifestyle it is accommodating and well suited for every vet and nurse. Our nurses are competent, we have two dedicated receptionists each day and we try to have plenty of time to focus on our clients and patients. We love our locums but it’s time for a full-time vet to join our team.
We have three vets per day from Monday to Friday and we share Saturday mornings. We’re small enough to get to know our clients but large enough to see lots of interesting cases, and to support each other as needed. We generally run on 30-minute appointments so you get plenty of time to work up cases and keep on top of your work. Lunch breaks are scheduled and enforced! Catch-up times are scheduled for case notes and phone calls. No afterhours or Sunday work is required.
Ideally you would bring enough experience to work independently along with some new skills (or a plan and desire to learn new skills) to our current excellent general medicine, surgery and dentistry competencies. An interest in basic orthopaedics, advanced dentistry, exotics, acupuncture and/or other skills is desirable. We have a dedicated behaviour vet so you can learn from her, or if you prefer to not do behaviour cases, internally refer to her.
We use RX Works and have good anaesthetic machines, GA monitoring, surgery, radiography and laboratory equipment - and those very competent, helpful and cheery nurses and receptionists mentioned above. We have a dedicated euthanasia room, great puppy preschool space, a well-stocked and sunny lunch room, and more.

While this is preferably a permanent, full-time position, hours are negotiable. Salary is negotiable based on hours and experience.

ST PETERS, SYDNEY INNER WEST - SMALL ANIMALS

Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic – St Peters
Southern Cross Vet has positioned itself to be an “employer-of-choice” through flexible working conditions and attractive bonuses — not just salary increases. “Salary increases are great but a ‘lazy option’ in my opinion,” Sam Kovac tells SmartCompany. Instead, Southern Cross Vet offers a free team lunch every Wednesday and the opportunity to bring pets to work every day. “An additional week of paid leave is given for all those who unlock this benefit,” Sam Kovac explains. And for those who don’t want to travel internationally — such as those with young children — Southern Cross Vet also offers an alternative, including long weekends away at five star resorts in Australia.
Some perks of joining our family include:
- A generous CPD (Continuing Professional Allowance) with paid transport to and from conferences
- Support with continuing education and travel to a developing interest such as such as dentistry, ophthalmology, or behaviour
- Open dog policy – feel free to bring your pet to work every day.
- Quick and frequent access to public transport
- Availability of parking if you have own vehicle.
- Free weekly team lunches on ‘Weight-Gain’ Wednesdays
- Provision of Fresh Fruit every week
- Doona days – a day off to counter stress and just take some ‘me time’
- SCV has tied up with Work Happy to ensure our employees get adequate mental support, life coaching and personal development if they need it. Mental Health of our employees is always a priority!
Management provides certain RAOK – “Random Acts of Kindness”. In the past years, we have hosted Harbour Boat Parties, Mini Golf days and other get togethers.
About our Team and Culture

At Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic, we believe in providing you a nurturing environment and providing you the best opportunity to grow and develop in this role as well as in your career.
In addition to the perks and benefits, we are also a VISA Approved employer, who are willing to help overseas vets achieve Permanent Residency in Australia through sponsorship. We have clinics in three of the most convenient and appealing locations in Sydney – St Peters, Surry Hills and Bellevue Hill, but note your location of work, is negotiable to be at your favourite one. The role is open to experienced candidates or recent graduates with a good easygoing disposition.
About Us:
Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic is a family-owned practice with fantastic clients, a majority of whom are insured. We pride ourselves in offering the best medical care available and in practicing Gold Standard medicine. We are striving towards achieving the ASAVA Hospital of Excellence accreditation this year. We offer some of the best technology and facilities comparable to most modern hospitals.
Please click here to see photos!
Just like most modern Veterinary Clinics we offer access to Ultrasound, CT scans, Digital X-ray and all the latest technology including Ligasure and Cayman surgical hand-pieces, supported by a remarkable, well-trained team of nurses. Our highly trained nurses are well equipped to perform clinical duties; freeing up time for our Doctors to focus on what they do best.
With all 3 clinics being in prime locations and well equipped for surgery, we rarely need to refer. We have contracted surgeons who perform our TTOs, MPLs and other orthopaedic surgeries as required – all inhouse. Additionally, our strong commitment to Laparoscopic Desexing and minimally invasive surgery not only ensures quicker recovery time for pets, but also means you’ll never need to spay a “fat” lab in heat again.
About the Role:
At Southern Cross Vet, we strongly support individual growth by giving you every opportunity to advance in your field of interest. We encourage you to constantly advance yourself through study and seminars; all part of a generous CPD allowance.
Salary:
Experienced Candidates – Salary range from $90,000 per annum (plus superannuation), along with a voluntary discretionary scheme through which candidates may earn up to $160,000 per year.
New Graduates – A competitive salary, continued education, mentorship, and ongoing training will see you transition from a “newby” into an accomplished and confident all-rounder in the vet industry.
A full-time role would require you to work 38 hours per week and would include some weekend work. We have very little after hours work, which means you are able to maintain a Healthy Work Life Balance, leaving you plenty of time to spend with your loved ones & pursue your personal hobbies.
Project HoPe
At Southern Cross Vet Clinic, we also have our own charity called Project HoPe which looks after the medical and surgical needs of the companions of the homeless, ensuring that no pet gets refused treatment and care because of lack of funds. We expect the successful applicant to not only possess the required skills, but also the desire in their hearts to save the lives of the pets of Sydney’s least fortunate – those that lead a rough life on the streets. The bonds between the homeless and their companions are pure and deep. Their four-legged companions are often what keep them going – keep them away from drugs, keep them wanting to wake up another day. We help them because we can.
Being an equal opportunity employer, we invite people from all backgrounds to apply.
