SOUTHLAND - OTAUTAU - MIXED PRACTICE

Veterinary Surgeon – Mixed Practice

Come and join our friendly mixed practice and enjoy a varied and interesting caseload in a community that values and appreciates our knowledge and skills.  We are an established practice aiming to provide friendly and compassionate care for all of our patients and loyal client base.

The Location

With beautiful beaches 30 minutes away, mountains 2 hours and the most stunning ‘office’ scenery to drive through on a daily basis, we have the ideal lifestyle.  Otautau is 40 minutes from Invercargill, 2 hours from Queenstown and there are direct flights to Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland from Invercargill.

We have an abundance of outdoor and indoor sporting opportunities, good local shopping and plenty of popular eateries.  Schools and medical resources are of a high standard and the relatively low cost of living makes it an ideal location for individuals, couples and families alike.

With the buoyant economy here in Southland and most industries crying out for staff, there are plenty of job opportunities for partners making the move with you.

About Us

Otautau Vets Ltd has provided professional and affordable veterinary care to the Western Southland region for over 20 years.  We are an independent practice committed to providing a wide range of services, sound advice and a high level of veterinary care.

We are a genuine mixed practice with around 75% of our work large animal, predominantly Dairy, and 25% Companion animal.  Our varied caseload allows for special interests to be developed and for individuals to grow and expand the services we provide.  We have some great clients who give us the opportunity for involvement in their business on a more intensive basis and as a result, we have vets trained in InCalf, Healthy Hoof and with interests in Dairy Nutrition and Equine Dentistry.

Please click here to see photos! photos

With digital imaging, ultrasound and in-house pathology, we aim to maximise our diagnostic capabilities and provide the best medical and surgical options for our patients.  Our nearest referral centre is in Christchurch, providing ample opportunity for developing interests in both companion animal medicine and surgery.

About the Role

Our preference would be for a full-time veterinary surgeon but have scope to accommodate a part-time role for the right candidate.

We are open 8.30am-5.30pm, with no weekend clinics and we strive for a 1-in-6 OOH roster or better throughout the year, apart from 10-12 weeks in Spring where we have two Vets on-call.  We have Rural Animal Technicians to ease the burden of routine large animal work and qualified Veterinary Nurses on-call at the weekend to assist with emergencies and in-patient care.

Due to the seasonal nature of our large animal work, there is a huge variation in the weighting of clinical work, but we aim to maintain variation whilst also accommodating individual skills and strengths.  There are always opportunities to learn new skills and with our great team of Vets, someone is always happy to lend a hand if more hands, more experience or just some friendly encouragement is required.

A healthy work-life balance is important to us all and we aim to ensure that everyone gets their allocated breaks and finishes on time.

About You

Ultimately, we are looking for the right candidate to fit in with our team. Qualifications are obviously essential, but we are happy to work with differing levels of experience to ensure that you are confident in your role.  The qualities that are particularly important to us are:

PAKURANGA, SE AUCKLAND - SMALL ANIMAL

Organisation/clinic: Pakuranga Veterinary Clinic
Location: Auckland
Position type: Full-time Companion Animal Veterinarian
Website:www.pakurangavets.co.nz

What are vets after? Work life balance? Generous pay? Regular breaks? Under 40 hours a week? Zero workplace toxicity with a large supportive team? Awesome clients? No after hours, Sundays or public holidays? Experienced and supportive team members? Highly skilled nurses? Private practice with no corporate demands? Supportive on-site management?

We can offer all that. WE ARE FULLY STAFFED. All we want is an experienced full-time vet (3+ years) to compliment the rest of the team and offer the clinic something exciting and new. To allow us to grow and expand further. We even have space for as specialist to set up if they want to have their own place free from the big corporates. We have a recent graduate who we support religiously so cannot take on another sorry!

We are based in East Auckland, have a great reputation, growing all the time. We have the luxury of a big team who enjoy their work so lockdown, split teams and Covid isolations were all been pretty straight forward with most staff actually reducing hours on full pay. It is great to be out the other side but we are still doing our best to keep our staff safe and happy every day.

We really want a team player that can work efficiently and forge strong relationships with clients and patients. Good time management and happy to take the manic days along with the dead quiet ones. You even get to go home early some days, and you even get breaks! And our staff negotiate the hours they want to work and can work pro-rata for more or less.

We can offer you a supportive and experienced veterinary team who enjoy working up cases thoroughly and offering an exemplary standard of care. We have two fully qualified nurses for every veterinarian so you always have an extra set of superb hands available. They are skilled and can do absolutely anything you ask as well as being awesome mind readers!

CPD is encouraged and we are happy for our veterinarians to pursue special interests and we do some really cool stuff. We are in a good socio-economic area and many of our patients are insured, so work-ups are easily offered. We are also more than okay with firing crappy clients, we have zero tolerance of abuse. You won’t work Sundays, after-hours or public holidays. Saturdays are only half a day and rostered 1:4 with a whole day in lieu.

We have all the mod-cons, ultrasound, digital x-ray, dental x-ray, vetscan, sterile theatre, three consult rooms, IM3 dental machine, fluid pumps, auto injector syringe, bair huggers, water beds, central air conditioning and VIN membership.

This permanent role is suited to a veterinarian wanting to settle down long term. Any special interests welcomed, surgery/orthopaedics, dentistry, medicine or even exotics if they float your boat. If you are keen to buy your own clinic in the future we can negotiate a succession plan!

Our veterinarians work efficiently, are great communicators and respect our amazing nurses. We expect our team to never be afraid to ask for help and all share cases and seek peer opinions if necessary. We are team players, hard workers, enjoy our work, have a laugh and this makes for a non-toxic environment! And most of all you don’t need to stress in your work day!

We have our own registered charity The Rock Vets that provides free healthcare and de-sexing clinics on Niue Island. These trips are incredible, life changing and an exciting highlight for keen staff that volunteer.

We also support Lonely Miaow cat rescue and our staff are very passionate about the rescue work and the exciting challenges it brings.

Pay is based on experience and you are paid what you are worth. Must have the right to work in NZ.
