Companion Animal Veterinarian – Locum Position
Flexible in start and finish times, for example, start December and finish in February, but primarily need January 2024 covered.
We would prefer full time but can accommodate part time for a minimum three days a week. Clinic hours are 8am-5.30pm so we'd like our locum to work an 8 hour day, with an hour off for lunch. On call is completely negotiable.

This opportunity is based out of Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre, Cambridge; a full-service equine clinic located in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding, racing and general equestrian community in NZ. With our state-of-the-art facility and highly experienced team, we cater to all equine athletes and leisure horses. We are well equipped with digital imaging modalities, nuclear scintigraphy, video and dynamic endoscopy, modern theatre and hospital facilities.

This role is for an immediate start and is suited to an equine veterinarian with experience and passion for lameness, sports medicine and imaging. We have a high caseload of sport horses of all disciplines, excellent “work up” facilities, quality radiographic and ultrasonographic equipment, a facility for nuclear scintigraphy and will be installing a CT unit within the next 12 months. The structure of the position would be tailored to the experience of the applicant. The ideal applicant would be confident imaging all areas of the equine athlete, have experience performing pre-purchase examinations and have an understanding of the competition world and the unique pressures of the different disciplines on the equine body.
You will work in conjunction with a team of sixteen highly experienced veterinarians and their support staff. Ongoing professional development and education is an essential component both internally within the clinic, and with formal continuing education. This is a great chance to expand your knowledge and skills in a collegial environment with a highly professional and skilled team. It is important that it is appreciated that the position is not purely lameness and sports medicine. The applicant will also cover general first opinion calls at times dependent on demand and will be part of the on-call roster for the clinic. The roster is 1 in 4 for after-hours care and one weeknight per week.
The salary package will be competitive and based on the applicant and their experience and includes a car, mobile phone, fuel and mobile plan expenses paid, 4 weeks annual leave, annual continuing education, professional indemnity insurance, vet council registration and annual practicing certificate fees paid.
