Gateway Vets has a locum opportunity for a Mixed Animal Veterinarian for August – October 2025, for our calving season.
We are a privately owned business operating out of a purpose-built rural practice in Geraldine, in the centre of the South Island. The clinic is situated on an aesthetic rural section and has been recently extended, providing a bright and spacious working environment. You will find a digital x-ray, the latest BCF scanners and a dedicated in-house laboratory for in-house milk analysis, haematology, biochemistry and parasitology.

- The successful applicant must be comfortable doing consultations, clinical diagnosis, farm service work & surgery
- Small animal/companion animal work
- Large animal, sheep, cow and equine work
- Display empathy to our clients and their animals
- Strong focus on animal wellness
- Two years’ experience working as a mixed practice veterinarian is highly desirable, however all levels of experience will be considered
- Exposure to equine or large animal work as well as companion animals is desirable
- Approach problems with an analytical view and have the ability to problem solve and work with a triage attitude as required
- A can do attitude and willingness to get stuck in
- Enjoy being part of a tight-knit team with the ability enhance an already positive culture
- Meet the conditions of the Veterinary Council of New Zealand

About the role
This is an opportunity for an experienced Production Animal Veterinarian to join our team and focus on our Raglan Dairy clients, work with our Mixed Sheep and Beef veterinarian based in Raglan and be an important part of the wider collegial group of Production vets based in Gordonton.
You will be responsible for individual animal medicine, heard health prevention and management, biosecurity and animal welfare support. Working alongside Large Animal Technicians, Technical Sales Reps, our internationally recognised research division, Cognosco, internal labs, microbiologists, and dedicated customer service teams, you will always be supported to provide the best service to our valued farming clients and make a real impact in our farming community.
This role provides plenty of scope for professional development, as well as the opportunity to really carve out your niche in this fantastic little community.
This role can be full-time or part-time with the flexibility to work 4 days per week or 9-day fortnights to make the most of what Raglan has to offer.
