BAY OF ISLANDS - COMPANION ANIMALS New Position

Phoenix Animal Wellness in Kerikeri, Bay of Islands, is searching for a veterinarian.

Experienced veterinary surgeon or recently qualified, for us it's about you. Yes, we need you to be qualified, and experience would be a benefit, but we are looking for someone who wants to invest in themselves and their development, helping us continue to build a practice at the cutting edge of Veterinary Care.

We are a proudly independent practice, offering a full-time role with flexible days to suit you. Whether you want to work 4 or 5 days per week, this practice is fortunate to be able to accommodate individual needs, offering flexibility as required. If you are ambitious, with a desire to grow professionally – we can help you achieve that.

If you are looking for plenty of surgical work or simply looking to develop your surgical skills – we can support that, as we have a high surgical case load, and a wealth of surgical experience to learn from.

If full clinical autonomy is important to you– we ensure you will see cases from beginning to end, we think this is vital for vet fulfillment, client satisfaction and clinical outcomes.

If it is a supportive team of veterinary professionals, from experienced vets, to an amazing network of veterinary nurses you want to have – here is a team that is at the top of its game. The opportunity to share best practice, notes, case discussions, and much more. We have a 'morning rounds' meeting every day, so we are all on the same page.

When it comes to weekends and out of hours, the rota will be based on 1 weekend in 4, all weekends are supported by a wonderfully skilled vet nurse. On call weekdays will be occasional.

The need for this role is through growth, expansion and demand in services, this is an exciting opportunity for a veterinary surgeon at any level to explore, develop and grow, live in the Bay of Islands, and experience all that this beautiful area has to offer.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Don't just take our word for it, read about what the team has to say and about working at our practice:

"From day 1, I felt like I belonged at Phoenix. The team were so welcoming and warm. There is a lot of value placed on mental health and work life balance, which is so important in an industry with such high rates of burnout. I love my new work family." Toni, veterinary nurse

"I've spent years looking for a great boss to work for, multiple practices later, I feel like I've finally found that. Paula and her whole team are such a supportive, positive and dedicated group. I couldn't wish for a better place to work." Jen, Veterinarian.

"To start with here's some strong pointers: If you're looking for a clinic with a high surgical case load, this is it. You'll become a whizz at surgery and get all the support you need, and the clients are genuinely lovely and grateful. But what I really think make or breaks our tough job in clinical practice is the team we work with. Life's too short not to enjoy where we work. Phoenix has an amazing team; every single person here will help each other out and it makes work fun. If this sounds great, it's actually better because my words aren't wording today!" Ju Veterinarian

"Team Phoenix is my second family. A family that supports, encourages and inspires me daily. Finding a team that appreciates and respects each other's abilities and promotes personal development has been amazing. Paula is an incredible boss, she is a constant source of motivation, knowledge and humour. The fresh baked morning tea is also a perk!" Sam, Practice Manager

"The thing I love most about working at Phoenix is our team. We love to have a laugh, everyone has their quirks, and there is no judgement. Phoenix is a place where you can feel comfortable, supported and accepted." Darian veterinary nurse.

"When I talk to people and tell them I drive one and a half hours to and from work each day they are shocked and ask why? My answer is always the same, I love my job, and it is so worth driving that distance to work for a boss that embraces who I am as an individual, values my skills and acknowledges my dedication to the Phoenix team. I wake up every morning with the same passion and drive to deliver high quality patient care as I did the first day I started, which is extremely important to me and not something I can honestly say I have experienced in any past employment." Donna, Head Nurse

To accompany this amazing role, is a salary and benefits package that will make you smile.

Still interested to find out more about the practice itself, keep reading…

The Bay of Islands is a beautiful location in the sub-tropical far north of New Zealand. The area offers quiet beaches, heaps of watersports and fishing, as well as tramping, horse riding, and all the other outdoor activities you would expect from an area of unspoiled natural beauty.

The practice prides itself on offering exceptional standards of care and skills and services not available elsewhere in their geographical area. We are growing rapidly, so this role can develop as our practice evolves, including opportunities for a leadership role.

Phoenix Animal Wellness has now grown to be the most highly considered companion animal veterinary clinic in the Far North.

The current team is made up of 4 vets, all pursuing their own interests and passions, and developing new services for the clinic, fully supported by a kind, caring, and extremely competent team of veterinary nurses.

Equine Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced equine vet to join our team in the beautiful North Taranaki region of New Zealand. We are a mixed practice with 18 veterinarians engaged both full and part time. This role will be primarily equine focused to cater for a wide variety of first opinion cases.

Taranaki has a thriving equine community with thoroughbred racing, standardbreds, sport horses, trekking, hunting, ponies and minis. We have the usual range of equipment such as portable DR digital Xrays, ultrasound, endoscope and a power-float.

This position could lend itself to a full-time or part-time role within the large animal team.

Taranaki is the hidden gem of the North. A vibrant social hub with events like WOMAD and the renowned Garden Festival, Bowl of Brooklands and Festival of Lights. The great outdoors caters for Mountaineers to Surfers and everything in between. It’s a great community and place to bring up family in “real” New Zealand.
