MVS Equine is a large purpose-built equine clinic and referral hospital located in the heart of New Zealand horse country. The majority of our caseload is Thoroughbred racing and breeding work, with a smaller sport, pleasure horse and Standardbred racing component. The annual hospital in-patient caseload is around 1200 horses per year.
The equine hospital is well-equipped including full surgical facilities, digital radiography, digital ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy, in-house laboratory, video-endoscopy and gastroscopy. You will have the support of a team of 16 other equine veterinarians (including two board-certified specialists in surgery), 4 interns and 12 nurses/support-staff. On-call for after-hours is shared equally.

MATAMATA, WAIKATO REGION - EQUINE, INTERNSHIP 
Equine Internship
Matamata Veterinary Services is seeking applicants for our equine internship programme, commencing in August 2023 for a fixed 12-month term.
You will work as part of our equine team, based at our purpose-built hospital. Our team consists of 16-20 equine veterinarians, including 3 other interns, supported by ten nurses and five office staff.
The internship position is primarily hospital based during the busy season (Aug-Feb), with an ambulatory component during the quieter period (Feb-July). Interns rotate through medicine (including neonatal ICU), surgery, anaesthesia, reproduction and ambulatory work. Caseload is high and varied, with the majority being Thoroughbred racing and stud work, with a smaller sport, pleasure horse and Standardbred racing component. The annual hospital in-patient caseload is around 1200 horses per year.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced group of equine practitioners with a wide range of skills, including two Board-certified surgeons and a Board-certified theriogenologist. Formal tuition and mentoring are part of this package.

About the Role
Our preference would be for a full-time veterinary surgeon, but have scope to accommodate a part-time role for the right candidate.
We are open 8.30am-5.30pm, with no weekend clinics and we strive for a 1-in-6 OOH roster or better throughout the year, apart from 10-12 weeks in Spring where we have two Vets on-call. We have a qualified Veterinary Nurse on-call over the weekend to assist with emergencies and in-patient care.
Due to the seasonal nature of our large animal work, there is a huge variation in the weighting of clinical work, but we aim to maintain variation whilst also accommodating individual skills and strengths. We also have Large Animal Technicians to ease the burden of the routine work.
There are always opportunities to learn new skills and with our great team of Vets, someone is always happy to lend a hand if more hands, more experience or just some friendly encouragement is required.

Matamata Veterinary Services (MVS) is looking for an equine reproduction specialist to lead their reproduction team in the perfectly situated Waikato region of New Zealand.
Our clinic
MVS is a 17 veterinarian, purpose build equine clinic and referral hospital with a full stallion export facility. The equine hospital is well equipped including a brand new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, full surgical facilities, digital radiography and ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy, in house laboratory, video-endoscopy and gastroscopy.
The majority of our caseload is Thoroughbred racing and breeding with a smaller sport and pleasure horse and Standardbred component. We offer complete equine veterinary care, covering both ambulatory and specialist equine referral services. Our supportive work environment consists of board-certified specialists in surgery and sports medicine and rehabilitation, 13 nurses/technicians and support staff and 4 interns. We have a culture of excellence and delivering a high-quality service to the client.
The MVS advanced reproduction service has an export accredited stallion facility for routine semen collections for chilled shipment and freezing. Further services include breeding soundness evaluations and training of novice stallions. Our mare services include routine breeding management for chilled and frozen AI, ET (including recipient management), breeding soundness evaluations and sub/infertility investigations. OPU equipment is available to expand the service.
These services are offered alongside support to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment of reproduction associated problems in mares (including dystocia’s) and stallions.
Matamata is in the heart of New Zealand’s’’ horse country, 1.5 hours south of Auckland, with easy access to amazing coastlines, snow-covered mountains for skiing, year-round adventuring, and incredible hiking, biking, and water sports in a mild climate. The role
We are seeking a highly experienced, enthusiastic equine reproduction specialist, preferably who is either boarded, or board eligible with the ACT or ECAR. Full registration with the veterinary council of New Zealand is essential (www.vetcouncil.org.nz). The caseload is split between our assisted reproduction program, including a stallion facility and routine reproductive management on thoroughbred stud farms throughout the region. You’ll be leading the assisted reproduction and stallion program and support a team of 5 stud veterinarians with the reproductive management on thoroughbred farms.
Proven experience in ET and stallion work is essential, experience in OPU is beneficial.

WAIKATO - SEASONAL EQUINE VET New Position
Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre (https://www.wevc.co.nz/) is a full-service equine clinic located in the heart of Waikato. With our state-of-the-art facility and highly experienced team, we cater to all equine athletes and leisure horses. We are well equipped with digital imaging modalities, nuclear scintigraphy, video and dynamic endoscopy, a modern theatre and hospital facilities.
We have a full time (minimum 40 hours per week) fixed-term position available for an Equine Veterinarian to support us during the busy spring / summer season. The role will be available from 1st September 2023 to February 2024. This period encompasses the breeding season, peak Thoroughbred racing season, Thoroughbred sales season as well as peak use pleasure and competition horses in New Zealand.

The successful applicant will need a good level of competence across all areas of equine general practice with a minimum of 2 years experience in equine practice or having successfully completed an equine internship. The position will have a diverse caseload of first opinion equine work. We are looking for a motivated individual, with excellent client communication and interpersonal skills. The applicant must have a strong work ethic and a passion for delivering high standards of care for equine patients. Applicants require a Veterinary Degree and must be eligible to (and required to) register with the New Zealand Veterinary Council.
A competitive salary package is offered ranges from $90,000 - 120,000 NZD per annum on a pro rata basis, commensurate on experience. Benefits include work vehicle, fuel and mobile phone expenses paid, professional indemnity insurance and vet council registration.
