FORBES, CENTRAL WEST - MIXED
New Position
Forbes Veterinary Clinic
Central-West NSW
Mixed Practice Vet – New Grad or Experienced
We asked, listened and acted – enjoy the new & improved in-depth Forbes Vet Clinic ad!
What’s the workload?
We are a typical rural mixed practice with 60-70% smalies and 30-40% largies load. We encourage all our staff to become good all-round rural GP vets. If you have a particular species or subject you enjoy working with we can nurture you in that direction too. Our regular jobs for all our vets (including new grads) include:
- Cattle: Preg testing (manual & ultrasound), bull testing, calvings, individual and herd health
- Horses: Preg testing, lameness, colic, stitch ups
- Dogs & cats: vax, consults, medicine, surgery (soft tissue, orthopaedic, desexing, caesareans), emergency
- Sheep, alpacas, pigs, pocket pets, bird, wildlife, reptiles round out the rest of our patient load
Most of our patient’s needs we are able to fully service but if more complicated things are required, we have the option of referral to Canberra (3hrs), Sydney (5hrs), Wagga (2.5hrs) and more experienced vets within 1.5hrs.
What’s the job like for a new grad?
At our practice, we’re all about setting new grads up for success. We offer a starting salary between $69K and $120K, depending on experience, with an hourly breakdown too (and keep in mind, our cost of living is lower here, so it stretches pretty far). In fact, many of our new grads have bought their first homes, new horse floats, and utes within their first two years!
Here’s how we’re new grad friendly:
- Start slow: Want to focus just on vaccinations? No problem!
- Customize your consults: We’ll schedule 30-minute vaccinations or 60-minute “all the rest” consults based on what you’re comfortable with.
- Learn at your own pace: If you want to watch another vet do surgeries before you try your own, we’re here for that. But if you’re feeling confident and want to perform a leg amputation or splenectomy in your first month? Go for it!
- On-call? Not right away: We’re not throwing you into on-call shifts for at least three months.
- Guaranteed time off: You’ll have your first Christmas guaranteed off to head home and show off your amazing new career!
- Support when you need it: No matter the time of day, night, or holiday, one of your bosses will always be available, either in person or over the phone.
We’ve had plenty of new grads start with us and thrive—our current associates can vouch for the flexible, supportive environment we provide!
How does the day roster work?
We work 4 x 9.5hr days with one week-day off a week. The current position would give you Wednesdays off but can be negotiated. Work 2 days, have a day off, work 2 days – how good!
The vet’s work day schedule:
- 8-9am- morning patient checks
- 9am-12.15pm – consults/largies/surgeries
- 12.30pm-3pm – catch up on notes, procedures collected from the morning, phone calls, lab submissions, lunch break
- 3-5.15pm – consults/largies, 5.30-6.30pm – night patient checks
The actual clinic opening hours are 8.30am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays (worked by the on call vet).
How does after hours work?
If you’re a new grad – you won’t be asked to do ANY after hours until you’ve a minimum of 3mths experience, unless you want to start sooner. Before doing on call, you are more than welcome to shadow one of the other vets to learn more skills.
Once you’re feeling comfortable with the new clinic settings our rota is 1 weeknight a week and 1 in 4 weekends. Public Holidays are rotated equal share each year so that means only 1 Christmas every 4 years and 1 Easter every 4 years etc.
You are paid 50% of every consult fee you charge, 50% of professional fees as well (surgery, xrays, board, hospitalisation, large animal visits).
After you do a weekend on call you get the following Friday off as a paid RDO. This gives you 1 in 4 weekends as a long weekend to do as you please.
What are the clients like?
We have friendly clients reflective of our rural community. They understand that some things take time and that we don’t always have the answers immediately but they trust in our dedication to follow up all our cases. Rude, unpleasant clients are not welcome at our clinic and will be redirected when identified!
What are the support staff like?
Each day we have minimum 3 nursing staff on the floor, a dedicated receptionist and a practice manager. There is always at least 2 fully qualified nursing staff who are efficient at IV placement, blood draw & running, radiographs, administering medications (IV, IM, SC), owner communication, surgery admission, patient triage. What can’t they do might be a shorter list? These staff are working alongside 2-3 vets per day.
What’s the workplace like?
It is a proper team. We all have each other’s back and are willing to share information with each other and put our heads together to nut out cases. Nobody leaves at the end of the day feeling the weight on their shoulders of any particular case – we all share the load together. Although it can get stressful like all busy workplaces we get through it with good communication. The gifts of chocolate, biscuits, fruit and muffins from clients and the coffee shop at the top of the street probably help. 😊
Why is Forbes a good place to live?
Well it depends on who you talk to!
Vet Vanessa – loves the sport options: hockey, netball, touch footy, soccer, tennis, volley-squash are the ones that she participates in! There’s also rugby, AFL, water-skiing and squash.
Vet Amy – loves the equestrian events that are numerous all within a couple of hours drive of Forbes
Nurse Alesha – enjoying seeing the locals each day and building rapport in our community
The community in general is very friendly. The town has 3 primary schools, 2 high schools, a preschool, and numerous day care options. Major shops include 2 supermarkets (inc woollies), beautiful boutique shops, kmart hub, bunnings, reject shop, maccas, KFC, dominoes (although the local pizza shop is way better!). Other highlights are the lake in town which everyone loves to walk/run/cycle the 5-10km circuit of; the Lachlan river that’s good for fishing, kayaking and swimming in; town pool; great food options at pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants, bakeries.
PS
The boring stuff: we have all the bells & whistles you’d be looking for in a mixed practice including fixed & portable digital xray, smallies ultrasound, 2 x largies ultrasounds, iM3 dental equipment, endoscope, IDEXX CBC & Biochem in-house, pulse ox, ECG machine, fluid pumps, blood pressure monitoring. We use the RX Works computer system with a computer in each consult room, 1 in xrays & 1 in the back area.

LITHGOW, BLUE MOUNTAINS - SMALL ANIMAL
Feeling like you need a change...?
Do you want to enjoy flexible hours, no after hours and be paid what you’re worth...??
Bored with doing notes, invoicing, and talking about the same stuff day in, day out…?
Wish you could work where you feel appreciated, do what you love to do, have a lunch break, and finish on time?
Well, read on. I’m Michelle, and I am the Owner of Lithgow Veterinary Hospital – a small animal clinic nestled at the base of the breathtaking Blue Mountains.
What I love most about my job is the feeling that what I do still matters, both to my clients, their pets, and my team...
I love that most of our clients greet me as an old friend and that we still have that family feel...
And I still love what I do!
Now, I'm seeking a new team member to join our already fabulous crew.
You would be perfect for the role if:
- You're eager to share the veterinary load with our skilled nurses (think nurse co-consulting, nurse concierge, IV catheterization, blood collection, and basic dentistry). We really value and respect our team.
- You're excited by the prospect of personal growth and improvement in a supportive team.
- You view mistakes as valuable feedback rather than failures and can share a laugh along the way.
- You possess a genuine love for people as much as you do for animals.
- You thrive on innovative ideas and enjoy contributing to a dynamic, progressive workplace.
Important details:
- Enjoy the flexibility of choosing your hours – whether you prefer casual, part-time, or full-time work.
- We offer generous flexibility to pursue your dreams – accommodating school hours, partners' schedules, or even your pet's favourite walk times!
- No After Hours or weekend shifts – your time outside of work is truly your own. However, we're a social bunch, so feel free to join us for trivia nights, drinks, and snacks at the Blue Fox or any other events on our social calendar.
- Focus on what you love most – whether it's consulting, surgery, or dentistry. You don't have to be an all-rounder to fit into our team. If you never want to spay a dog again, we understand!
- No pressure to handle exotics, birds, or wildlife – unless, of course, you're passionate about it.
- We're committed to your professional development and offer generous remuneration, a substantial continuing education allowance, and support both within and outside of work.
If what you've read has piqued your interest...
And you're eager to learn more...
Let's arrange for a chat. Text me on 0403 565 705 or email mjmon1@yahoo.com.au, and we can take it from there. I look forward to connecting with you.

GOULBURN - MIXED
New Position
Mixed practice
Full Time Veterinarian
Clinton Street Veterinary Clinic is seeking a fifth veterinarian to join our team. We think the position is perfect for a new graduate but experienced vets are welcome to apply.
We are looking for someone with a great attitude, great customer service skills and someone to work as a team while treating animals large and small. We see about 70% small animals, 20% horses and 10% livestock with plenty of wildlife thrown in the mix. We work with a range of animal rescue organisations as well as service the local animal shelter. We are a busy genuine mixed practice and enjoy the variety of looking after all species, great and small.
What we can offer you:
- Two partners who have a belief that there are no dumb questions and want to support you into becoming a great mixed practice veterinarian.
- An above award salary and 50% professional fee for afterhours.
- A shared work vehicle, fully stocked for all large animal requirements.
- An excellent team of hard working nurses.
- Support for special interests including willingness to invest in equipment or training to support those interests. We don’t believe in setting limits on continuing education costs and have sent all our other vets on practical courses offered by Vetprac or CVE. If you can demonstrate how learning this new skill will benefit the clinic, then we will pay for it.
- Clinic subscription to the VetVault clinical podcasts.
- Cafe coffee delivered each morning and lunch provided for monthly staff meetings.
- A four day work week with rotating days off so you can enjoy long weekends much more regularly than the occasional public holiday long weekend.
- Help with accommodation while you get established in a new town.
We are hiring someone with the right “soft skills”, who wants to provide high levels of patient care and a can-do attitude. We will teach you how to remove a broken carnassial, how to spey a Labrador, how to tube a horse, how to deliver a calf. One of the partners owns a farm with cows and horses, so if you want to have some extra practice on live animals, we can organise extra tutorials on what ever skills you want to perfect. If you have some experience as a vet and can do all of these things, then let us know what you want to get better at and we will teach you.
We are a privately owned veterinary clinic and have all the toys that a clinic should have including: Ultrasound, digital xray, dental xray, in house blood machines (haematology, biochemistry, clotting times and progesterone), Capnography, Blood pressure on every anaesthetic monitoring device, IM3 dental station and the largest autoclave machine that you probably have ever seen in a Mixed Practice.
For large animals we have BCF cattle ultrasound, Bull testing kit, Equine portable DR xray machine, portable equine crush trailer, terrafloat equine dental machines and ultrasounds for mares. As well as all the necessary equipment for orthopaedics (including TPLO and MMP procedures for cruciates) and soft tissue surgery. We manage most things in house but have access to the Animal Referral Hospital in Canberra to send any specialist level treatments.
The Clinton Street Veterinary Clinic is located in Goulburn approximately 2 hours south of Sydney and one hour north of Canberra. You have probably stopped at McDonalds near the Big Merino at some point in your life if you have driven around country NSW. We are a town of 30,000 and have a diverse range of sporting teams and hobbies to partake in. We have affordable housing / rent, a Kmart, a Bunnings and a Target (a real one, not a Target Country).

Seeking a FT/PT experienced veterinarian to join our team.
- Experienced Veterinarian
- Very supportive hospital, seeking like-minded Veterinarian
- 3-4 days per week (28.5/36 hours per week), fair share of after-hours and on call is required, including rotational Saturdays.
- Team consulting for optimal support
- Minimum 2 years' clinical experience (up to $130,000 pro-rata)
- Capable of supporting new graduate and more junior vets with surgical and medical cases.
A bit about us:
Our hospital is 6 years old this year and we have enjoyed a welcomed response from the community and have a well-established and lovely client base. We have 3 senior vets with different areas of expertise, who complement each other very well. We operate on a 2-3 vets per day basis currently.
We start each day off with a ‘morning huddle’, where all team members have a look at the schedule for the day, share a daily win we have had and ensure clarity in everyone’s roles for that day.
Currently we have rostered surgery days where you will do surgery in the morning and consult in the afternoon and consulting days. When you join us and are comfortable, we have the capacity to increase surgery to 2 vets per day as we have separate dog and cat surgery rooms. Our surgery caseload is varied and across the board with routine and non-routine.
Our consults are mostly 30 minutes, giving you time to get to know clients, do a thorough examination and discuss treatment plans. We have an experienced support team, including a dedicated receptionist, senior nurses and trainee nurses. We support the nursing team’s growth by getting them to do as much as they can so you can focus on vet work.
We are currently seeking an experienced PT vet who would work 2-3 days per week, 8am-6pm. After hours is evenly shared – currently each vet does one night per week and one weekend in 4. Call outs are very minimal, manageable, and very lucrative. It is expected that you would contribute fairly to the after hours roster. We utilise Vet Chat as a tele triage in the first instance, so you are only being asked to answer phone calls when they have been deemed an emergency. The teletriage system has seen a 70% drop in our after hours phone call disturbances to the vet on call.
A little bit about you:
We are looking for someone who has:
- Passionate about your work
- Great people presence, who can connect and relate to clients
- Time efficiency
- Attention to detail
- Willing to teach others
- High EQ – good self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills
A little bit about our hospital
We are currently a daytime GP hospital with a vet on call for afterhours, but we are investigating options of having a night shift. This is an area we hope to grow into. This would open up the possibility for more emergency work.
We are also currently doing major internal renovations to our hospital, which will leave us with an open plan and well thought out layout for the hospital, which is expected to mostly be completed shortly.
We are well set up and some of our major equipment includes:
- Digital X-ray
- Ultrasound
- Dental equipment, including dental x-ray
- Separate and dedicated dog and cat hospitals, each with own treatment area and surgery
- 4 consulting rooms
- IDEXX in house bloods and other routine in house laboratory equipment
- Digital patient monitoring through Vet Radar, piggy backed off Ezyvet so the systems integrate seamlessly.
We are registered as a Gold ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic.
We practice hospital excellence and are continually self-evaluating our protocols to ensure best practice is achieved.
Please click here to see photos!
Ongoing CPD and team training:
This is critical for everyone in the team. We advocate for ongoing learning with regular team training and refresher training, practice membership to VIN, Vet Education webinars and ISFM. You will also be supported with a study allowance of $1500 PA and 1 week study leave per year all pro-rata.
We have monthly nurse and vet meetings to ensure smooth flow of hospital procedures and discuss projects we are working on. We hold a Team meeting quarterly where we close the clinic and discuss non-clinical training.
Teaching:
We pride ourselves on being a hospital, that advocates training and teaching, generally hosting veterinary nursing students and vet students where we can. Once you have found your feet, we would love for you to teach others, as teaching is also an amazing confidence building experience and really gets you comfortable with the content.
A little bit about Albury-Wodonga:
The clinic is located in Albury (Lavington) but the area is generally referred to as Albury-Wodonga. Albury being located on the NSW side of the Murray River and twin sister city - Wodonga being located on the Victorian side. Together the area offers great out-of-work lifestyle opportunities, many outdoor places to explore, in winter the snow fields are only an hour or so away. It is a large enough city to have all of your major shops and services, but small enough to still have that country feeling.
You can visit our Facebook page to see some photos of the clinic and get a ‘feel’ for the team - or we welcome you to come and meet the team.
For all enquiries please contact:
Dr Sally Henry (Veterinarian & Practice Manager) by phone 0402 902 326 or via email manager@alburyanimalhospital.com.au
Testimonial from a vet student:
Aimee initially did university practical placement with us but has then come back to do some nursing for experience during the holidays. Here’s what she had to say: “After I completed placement at Dr Jana’s in the summer of 2020, I returned as a nurse both after my placement and in the summer of 21-22. My choice to return was to do with the amazing and supportive team who became like family to me. Each of the vets has been an excellent mentor and all the nurses are incredible to work with. The clinic provides a safe environment to learn and excel and would be the perfect place for a new grad to start their journey’
– This vet now works for us. – Dr. Aimee Owens.

GLOUCESTER, BARRINGTON COAST - MIXED PRACTICE - PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
FULL OR PART TIME VETERINARIAN (MIXED & SA ONLY). PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Gloucester District Vets, a true mixed practice located on the foothills of the Barrington Tops, are on the lookout for another Veterinarian to add to our Team.
Gloucester is a beautiful little town located on the Mid North Coast, just inland from Newcastle. Located less than an hour from the stunning Barrington Coast and Newcastle, and less than 3hrs to Sydney, it’s a great location for those wanting to experience rural practice, yet still be within easy reach of the bigger cities.
The town is very sporty, with most of the nurses and vets filling their weeks with tennis, touch or netball. The Barrington Tops is a magnet for snow chasers, hikers, and trail bike riders, and with 3 mountain rivers converging in Gloucester, it’s also popular for fishing & kayaking.
Please click here to see photos!
Demographically, it’s a combination of young families, multi-generational farmers, hobby farms, and Sydney farmers. With lovely schools, and a supportive community, it’s a great place to settle and bring up a family.
We currently employ 5 Veterinarians, and are looking for another Vet . We offer a 4-day working week, with light OOH duties shared evenly amongst all the Vets. The clinic operates comfortable business hours (8:30-5pm Mon-Fri, and 8:30-12pm Saturday), and we do our very best to give our staff a working roster which allows for a balanced, enjoyable working life.
We have a supportive, friendly team that regularly socialise and enjoy sporting activities outside of work. We are very careful with who we employ, and are conscious of only adding team members that share the same supportive, kind, thoughtful attitudes which are evident in all of our staff members. We listen to our staff, and try to include every staff member in the decisions of the practice.
We are a true mixed practice, with a combination of companion animals, cattle work (beef > dairy), and equine. We also see quite a variety of small ruminants, and wildlife.
The practice has recently moved into a brand-new fully equipped, purpose built practice, including clinic vehicles, top of the range DR digital radiography and SA ultrasonography suite, brand new wireless BCF scanner, power float and equine dental kit, plumbed oxygen throughout, electric surgical suites with gas pendants, bull breeding kits, comprehensive blood suite, and so on. Clinic is effectively paperless and progressive, utilising Virtual recall, Vetcheck and interactive boards.
We strongly encourage CPD and special interests amongst our Staff, and in addition to the standard provision of a week of study leave with respective remuneration, we will often put staff through long term courses/memberships in their preferred fields. We see this as mutually beneficial to both the practice and the employee, and enjoy seeing the new skills implemented back into the clinic.
We are looking for either Full-time or Part-time Veterinarians, Experienced or New Graduates. Small animal only Vets will be considered. Ideally, we are looking for a Vet to start ASAP, but will consider later commencement dates.
All vets employed with the practice have access to a broad and varied work-load with access to both large animal work (if interested) and small animal work. Currently there is an opportunity for applicants wanting to further their cattle exposure.
Salary - Up to $120K pending experience. Partnership opportunities available. We will consider overseas applicants, and we are, of course, happy for any applicants to speak to staff to get an insight into work life.
Please send applications to Ashleigh Saville by email ash@districtvets.com.au or phone 02 6558 1504.

We understand you may be a bit nervous starting out or getting back in the saddle and can help make your transition easier with 30-minute consults and a floating vet available to pick up any overflow and offer advice if you get caught up on something a bit more complicated. If surgery isn’t your thing, not a problem, you can participate in as much or as little surgery as you like as our other vets love this stuff. Big dental procedures and extractions got you concerned? We can help here also. One of our vets actively seeks out these cases and is more than happy to mentor, provide support and/or advice whenever the need arises.
At Warners Bay Vet we believe that flexibility and work life balance are the most important aspects in keeping us all engaged. That’s why we’re negotiable with hours to help accommodate your individual needs. If you’re looking for a part time position, we’re happy to work around school drop off and pick up if needed. In our full-time position, we have embraced a four-day week with rotating roster for weekend work, so you’ll have plenty of time to pursue your other interests.

KINCUMBER, SOUTH EAST CENTRAL COAST - SMALL ANIMAL
Full Time or Part Time Veterinarian Wanted
I wanted to be a vet when I was a little boy. Most people don’t get to do their childhood dream job. Its not an easy job, but it’s an amazing job where we can make a real difference in people’s lives, their families lives and their pets lives. In this busy world we live, our pets help us so much and give us so much love. We are blessed to be able to help people love and care for their pets. That’s why our ethos is Love. Pets. Family.
But we can’t do it alone.
We are a small animal, family owned hospital on the beautiful Central Coast – close to everything and only an hour from Sydney. Kincumber is suburban, minutes from the beaches, close to Erina Fair shopping centre, but also near acreages and bush for a relaxed lifestyle.
We are a modern, busy little hospital, with a varied caseload and providing a good mixture of medicine and surgery with all the equipment needed to look after our furry patients. Our clients are lovely and generally happy for us to provide everything needed to look after their pets.
We use (and love) Ezyvet as our practice management software system, we have digital radiology, dental Xray, ultrasound, ECG, NIBP for all our anaesthetics, capnography, tonovet, IDEXX inhouse pathology, Imagyst AI – and more.
Please click here to see photos!
Our senior vets are happy to lend advice, with one practice principal having his Memberships in Small Animal Medicine, and the other moonlighting for SASH in Emergency Medicine.
We are after an all-rounder vet keen to practice high standards, good communication skills, a happy persona, and a sound work ethic. New and recent graduates are welcome. Special interests are welcome. Continuing education is strongly encouraged. You wouldn’t need to do any public holiday work and no after hours – meaning you can have the well needed time off and good work/life balance. SASH Tuggerah is close by to refer the curly cases and for advanced imaging, oncology, physiotherapy and most importantly after hours care!
We make sure our staff get their lunch breaks, there’s a chocolate cookie jar that just seems to keep re-filling, and a coffee machine for much needed caffeine replacement…
Remuneration for the successful candidate is based on experience (salary range $90k-$150k plus super) but we pay well above the vet award. Staff are paid per hour, not only salary. We provide VIN membership and Vet Vault access to our vets, annual paid study leave and CE is encouraged.
To apply please email your CV to greg.kelman@kincumbervet.com.au

This testimonial from one of our vets should convince you that this is the place for you!
“I started as a new graduate in 2017 and am only leaving to try my hand overseas! I was never pushed into doing anything I wasn't ready to do and could go at my own pace. The practice owner is super supportive and will still answer my calls even now to provide advice and assistance.
BTW it is an awesome team!! All the nurses are very capable, and they make the job so easy so you can get on with being a vet.
The caseload is varied and interesting. Because of the location, you get to “have a go”, rather than just referring everything …..so skills develop much quicker.
Orange is an amazing town. There is always something happening! (Dr Lauren Slater)
