Companion Vet Care, North Lakes, Moreton Bay Region (posted 10th February)
For any nurse who has been doing this job for a while, no matter where you go the work is roughly the same, isn’t it? What separates one practice from another is the people, the culture and the leadership.
So, what makes Companion Vet Care different? It comes down to 1 fundamental concept: ATTITUDE (aka clinic culture).
Not the chip on shoulder kind, or the difficult to work with kind, or even the “I can do it all on my own” kind. So, what do I mean?
ATTITUDE of RESPECT – we are a team of professionals. We treat each other as such and we work collaboratively to achieve a common goal. Everyone has their role and their responsibilities and although those vary from one team member to the next, they all contribute to a one team approach.
ATTITUDE to COMMUNICATION – We constantly communicate. We plan, we assess and we adapt. We make sure that we are understood by colleagues and clients alike. We admit when we are wrong or need help. Feedback is important and encouraged. When we meet, we discuss what is happening in the clinic, what is working well and what could be done better. Everyone has a voice and an opportunity to speak.
ATTITUDE to LEADERSHIP – Leadership is providing the tools, structure and environment to thrive and do a good job. Giving individuals the autonomy to practice excellent veterinary medicine and look after the pets of our community and their owners. Leadership is about being connected with the group and recognizing the needs and wants of individuals, looking after their wellbeing, providing support and mentorship and being agile and adaptable to the changing needs of the team. Lets face it, we spend more time at work than with our loved ones, so it is very important to us that we foster an environment where everyone feels valued, comfortable and happy. It is a place where we see you as an individual, not just a number and have a vested interest in the wellbeing and happiness of each and every member of the team.
ATTITUDE to REWARD AND RECOGNITION – Everyone wants to be rewarded for their efforts. Remuneration is only one component, but it is, at the end of the day the primary reason we work. We remunerate according to skill, experience, attitude, and commitment. And we review this regularly to make sure we are showing our people how we value them. There is no secret there is a ceiling in this industry but we are constantly looking at ways to push past this. Outside of remuneration we show appreciation by recognizing the team or individual for a good job done. Lunches, cakes, and snacks are all small tokens to show we see you and the work you do. Continuing education is important to us and this includes our nurses. We are constantly looking for new ways to reward our team for the work and effort they put in.
Does this sound like a place you could practice your given profession in and be a part of a new and forward-thinking industry? Is it a role where you could imagine yourself sharing, learning, laughing, and contributing to animal care and welfare? If you do, we would like to talk to you. This position is very specifically for an individual who has been a nurse for at least 2 years and feels confident in their knowledge and skills and would like to work alongside a team who are both good at what they do and passionate about their work.
The role is nursing focused with only small aspects of customer service. It is a role where you get to put your knowledge, training, and experience into practice. You will be supported by senior nurses and play a part in the mentorship of our up-and-coming colleagues. The clinic sees a typical general practice caseload but has all the knowledge, skills and equipment to take on more complex medical and surgical cases. We allow our nurses to be very involved – placing IV’s, collecting bloods, dental scale and polishes, radiology as well as assisting vets in any capacity required.
If you would like to find out more please email me at admin@companionvetcare.com.au with a resume and cover letter and we can arrange to meet and show you what we are about.

Charleville Veterinary Surgery, South-West (posted 10th February)
The Charleville Vet Surgery is a four vet (9 team support staff) mixed practice and we are looking for another qualified vet nurse to join our team of young, fun and passionate individuals. Our practice is rapidly expanding, and YOU could have the opportunity to be a part of our great team. We (Terri and Courtney) grew up around Charleville, and we have returned home to build a veterinary practice that serves the great people of the area, as well as help our staff reach their full potential.
We have four core values here at CVS – compassion, commitment, teamwork and making a difference. These values underpin everything that we do as a team and for our clients.
We want to provide the best possible service to the people and animals of western Queensland. We are in the unique position in offering a service to clients who otherwise wouldn’t have access to a vet for in some cases over 800km – which means we get to work up and treat cases that a lot of other vets wouldn’t have the opportunity to do!
About our town: Known as the “hub” of the South West, Charleville is a great little outback town offering a relaxed and authentic country lifestyle.
