The Position:

The hours and days can be flexible. Clinic hours are 9am-6pm Monday-Friday and 9am -12pm Saturday. We provide after-hours care for our clients.

We require you to assist us with small animal medical and surgical cases (soft tissue/routine) along with large animal medicine and occasional surgery if that is your preference.

We need you to have excellent communication skills and a friendly and supportive attitude.

Consigning yearlings at all major sales throughout Australia, and a racing team of 200 plus horses gives the Veterinarians great job variety and exposure to all aspects of the business.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and organised person who wishes to be part of a close-knit Veterinary team as well as learning the structure and management of a thoroughbred stud. As we are currently in the development phase of two of the additional stud properties, you would be involved with input into set up and design of Vet working areas within these properties.

The chosen candidate would be joining an established Veterinary practice with a Practice Manager, three Full-Time Veterinary nurses, one Part-Time Veterinary Nurse, and Stud support staff. The Veterinary team is a very friendly group with a strong passion to provide excellent patient care while still pursuing a good work life balance. With support from the other resident Vets, you will share the on-call roster with the option of having four-day weeks in the months of May, June and July.

Yulong’s Veterinary facilities include a full Laboratory comprised of Hematology, Biochemistry, PCR and Blood gas machines along with the ability to do cultures and sensitivities. We also have portable ultrasound, digital radiograph and video endoscope machines. Additionally, our practice has strong relationships with nearby equine referral hospitals and therefore referral and additional support from internal medicine specialist, surgeons and theriogenologists is also available.

Reproduction would be the main focus during the breeding season and being proficient with scanning mares pre and post service, mid-trimester placental scans, pregnancy testing and twin ablation is essential. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience with emergency stud work, foal medicine, yearling endoscopy, and radiography as well as racehorse lameness. However, a Veterinarian with less experience in the latter areas will still be considered as mentorship from the senior stud Veterinarians will be available. We would encourage you to attend seminars and clinics to further your education in all fields of Veterinary work and the company will provide financial support for this.

You would have the opportunity to attend yearling sales to oversee the veterinary care of our yearling draft whilst on the sale complex. As well as assisting management with yearling inspections and completing thorough pre purchase clinical examinations, reading pre-sale x-rays and evaluating pre-sale upper airway endoscopy videos.

We currently have over 100 staff and the ability to effectively communicate as well as assist with ongoing education of the stud staff is vitally important to the growth of the business.

The breeding side of the operation is located within the beautiful wine region of the lower Goulburn Valley. We are located a quick 1.5-hour drive or train ride into central Melbourne. A fifth property, Yulong Park, serves as the spelling farm for our racehorses and is located on the opposite side of Melbourne and is only a short drive away from the Mornington Peninsula.

Very supportive hospital, seeking like-minded Veterinarian
3-4 days per week (28.5/36 hours per week), fair share of after-hours and on call is required, including rotational Saturdays.

A bit about us:
Our hospital is 6 years old this year and we have enjoyed a welcomed response from the community and have a well-established and lovely client base. We have 3 senior vets with different areas of expertise, who complement each other very well. We operate on a 2-3 vets per day basis currently.

We start each day off with a ‘morning huddle’, where all team members have a look at the schedule for the day, share a daily win we have had and ensure clarity in everyone’s roles for that day.

Currently we have rostered surgery days where you will do surgery in the morning and consult in the afternoon and consulting days. When you join us and are comfortable, we have the capacity to increase surgery to 2 vets per day as we have separate dog and cat surgery rooms. Our surgery caseload is varied and across the board with routine and non-routine.

Our consults are mostly 30 minutes, giving you time to get to know clients, do a thorough examination and discuss treatment plans. We have an experienced support team, including a dedicated receptionist, senior nurses and trainee nurses. We support the nursing team’s growth by getting them to do as much as they can so you can focus on vet work.

We are currently seeking an experienced PT vet who would work 2-3 days per week, 8am-6pm. After hours is evenly shared – currently each vet does one night per week and one weekend in 4. Call outs are very minimal, manageable, and very lucrative. It is expected that you would contribute fairly to the after hours roster. We utilise Vet Chat as a tele triage in the first instance, so you are only being asked to answer phone calls when they have been deemed an emergency. The teletriage system has seen a 70% drop in our after hours phone call disturbances to the vet on call.

Ongoing CPD and team training:
This is critical for everyone in the team. We advocate for ongoing learning with regular team training and refresher training, practice membership to VIN, Vet Education webinars and ISFM. You will also be supported with a study allowance of $1500 PA and 1 week study leave per year all pro-rata.

We have monthly nurse and vet meetings to ensure smooth flow of hospital procedures and discuss projects we are working on. We hold a Team meeting quarterly where we close the clinic and discuss non-clinical training.

Teaching:
We pride ourselves on being a hospital, that advocates training and teaching, generally hosting veterinary nursing students and vet students where we can. Full or Part time Veterinarian – North Geelong Veterinary Clinic

We are looking for either a full or part time Veterinarian to join our growing team. The position would suit a candidate with experience or a new graduate vet.

The position can be anything from two to four days per week, including Saturdays on a rotating basis. Our full-time vets are rostered for 36 hours a week across 4 weekdays (this includes a one hour lunch break). Saturdays are approximately one in six and the week before a Saturday shift is a three-day work week. We feel this schedule truly allows our veterinarians to actively pursue interests outside of work.

The position would have 4 weeks annual leave and 1-week study leave. We greatly encourage and will help fund further education. License fees and professional memberships paid.

The clinic is open 8:00am – 7:00pm Monday – Friday and Saturdays 8:00 am – 3:00pm. We have 30 minute appointments to allow ample time for work up and completion of records, in addition to catch up time and time put aside for medication repeats and call backs. We are not open after hours, for on call work, or public holidays.

About the GARS Surgery Service
The surgical department consists of five surgical specialists with a team of residents, interns and nurses who are supported by specialists in imaging, medicine, oncology and critical care to provide stellar patient care.

Our three operating theatres are truly enviable, overlooking the neighbouring golf course with each fully equipped with endoscopic towers, mono/bipolar electrocautery, suction and Bipolar Vessel Sealing Devices. Two of the theatres also have electric fluoroscopic tables to facilitate minimally invasive image guided neurologic, orthopaedic and interventional radiology procedures. We have multiple locking plate systems (LCP, SOP, Fixin) in all sizes from 1.5 to 4.5mm plus a complete speciality plate range (DPO, SHO, PCA, PanTA, ParTA, supracondylar etc). We also have Biomedtrix iLoc Interlocking nail system, IMEX circular and linear ESF in all sizes.

Position details

The surgery internship is designed to ensure you develop a deeper level of knowledge and competence in all areas of small animal surgery by the completion of the program.
Mentorship, training, support, and guidance provided by a dynamic group of Specialists (Surgery, Internal Medicine, Imaging, Oncology and Emergency and Critical Care) and a supportive team of nursing staff.
Involvement in daily hospital and medicine rounds, in-clinic tutorials and journal club
Mentorship and support for interns to pursue ANZCVS membership (if not already completed) and develop research projects is supported and encouraged.
Continuing education support, including attendance at conferences is supported and encouraged.
Guidance and support provided for applications to Residency programs, both within GARS, MARS and external institutions.

Traralgon Veterinary Centre is under new management. Dr Garth Jackson has taken full ownership over the practice after the retirement of the other existing partner. We are Cohuna Veterinary Clinic. We are a progressive, fully independent and locally owned practice of 3-4 vets. We seek to offer high quality and personalised veterinary services. We are seeking a veterinarian with a minimum 12 months experience to come and work with us. Whether you want to focus on large animals, just do smallies, or do a mixture of both, we can make that work. A work vehicle will be provided if doing large animal work. We provide 5 weeks annual leave plus 1 week study leave per year and continuing education is strongly encouraged. Clinic hours are 8:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (no Saturday mornings) and afterhours will be shared 1 in 3 or 4.

Cohuna is a great country town situated on the picturesque Gunbower wetlands and close to the Murray River.
