Integrity, Patient Advocate, Compassion, Learning, Community.

We, the Rabbit & Bird Doctors, want to do more.

We passionately provide every small herbivore and avian patient with quality, evidence-based, humane veterinary care. But you probably figured that much from our name.

We are a workplace that faces challenges with a curious mind and embraces different perspectives, and together, we work to drive our area of medicine further. This certainly makes for a richer, more rewarding, and quirkier workplace.

Our people are diverse and inclusive and we pride ourselves in respecting and supporting one another's “whys” in both the workplace and life. Our workplace culture is the most important part of our success and we take a dynamic approach to our teams' needs.

The caseload is varied, high-paced, and top-end and we hold high expectations for our patients and client care. This isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay!

Our nurses are highly valued in our clinic, performing most, if not all, practical tasks able to be conducted by appropriately qualified individuals.

We have an ongoing rolling roster that includes our various nursing roles meaning each week is a little different. With the support of a dedicated customer service team, we can focus on what we do best: providing exceptional care to our patients.

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

We are seeking TWO qualified and experienced veterinary nurses to join our team. We define experience as a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience. The ideal candidate will be proactive in contributing to the advancement of our workplace culture, and consider themselves motivated, dedicated and rational. You should already hold, or be willing to obtain and maintain, VNCA registration/accreditation. You should have a strong passion for educating the community on species-specific care and welfare and take a warm, friendly approach to client care. You should be able to confidently conduct informed and educational nurse consultations. We are seeking a commitment to a minimum of 2 days per week, with the potential of full-time, and a 1 in 4 Saturday rotation.

An interest in Rabbits, Guinea pigs, Rats, and Birds is a must, having previous experience in these species isn’t a deal breaker.

Curious? Want more information?

Please email nursemanager@therabbitdoctors.com.au outlining which role you are interested in, with a current resume.

Diggers Rest Animal Hospital, North West Melbourne (posted 19th February)

Vet Nurse - Part Time

You can start straight away if that works for you. If this sounds like a good fit, then read on.

We need a new nurse to join our crew – experience is ideal, but not an absolute necessity. We are a new practice that is expanding and empowering nurses to participate more and more in assisting our vets to get through their workload (take blood, insert IV catheters, intubate, dental scale & polish, and plenty more). Being caring and passionate are a must, but you will need to love people and want to help them solve their problems. We already know that you love animals!

We focus on team building, only the highest standards of care, and ongoing training both in the veterinary field, as well as personal development. We have all the toys in our purpose built, spacious practice – theraputic laser, DR digital radiography, DR digital dental radiography, latest in-house blood analyser, colour Doppler ultrasound, etc.

You'll need to be willing to push yourself to make a difference in our practice, and to our clients and their pets.

If you are looking for "just a vet nurse job", then this position won’t suit you. However, if you value progression and learning, and working in an extraordinary practice with an exceptional team, please call Glen Hastie on 0409 196 110, and email your CV to: glen.hastie@gmail.com

The Berwick Village Vet, South-East Melbourne (posted 20th January)

The Berwick Village Vet Logo

P/T Experienced nurse required! Roughly 22-27 hours but this can be adjusted to suit the right applicant, and if you're management minded maybe even more!

We are a small clinic with two FTE Vets made up of 4 Vets. Recently a situation has occurred where a loyal member of our nursing team has experienced a tough change and needs some flexibility in the foreseeable future. To give her this flexibility we need help!

We are made up of 5 nurses, with the aforementioned 4 Vets in various roles. We're a social team and like to work with each other, even though we are all different in our own ways. We welcome all nurses, and you will enjoy working here! Whilst we have the odd obligatory eccentric client, we have one of the best clientele bases you'll come across. They trust us to do a good job, and that involves referral to specialists and emergency centres where required.

This is not a position for a trainee, sorry. This is a position for an experienced Veterinary Nurse. A Cert IV is an advantage, but let's face it experience trumps a Cert IV in most cases. The nursing team here are expanding their capabilities, and now take and run most bloods, iv catheters, fluid management, in house medications and the likes. There is lots of scope for more Veterinary nurse involvement, and we usually use a nurse for nail trims, and all the routine injections. A lot of in-house pathology is run by the nursing team, including urine tests, blood tests, SNAP tests and the likes. We have an awesome trainee, she is a lovely person, and keen to work. She will however require some guidance on all things nursing, from the clinical nursing, reception, client management and some of the admin tasks. One of our last trainee's Ruby is now one of our senior nurses.

We definitely want a team player. I understand when you start a new position you are not a loyal team member until you have bought into the clinic ethos and the staff around you. However we want someone to join us and be part of a great little clinic. Someone who communicates well, works hard and enjoys life.

So in short what do we want?

  1. A social team player, who can communicate well with their peers, and "join the team" bringing a new way of doing things and a new personality!
  2. Clinically experienced, and able to place catheters, draw bloods, run in house pathology, run a surgical shift, and manage nurse consults, or at least keen to learn.
  3. Work with our fantastic clientele to show them how well meaning and good we are!
  4. Be able to guide a nurse trainee to achieve great things
  5. 5-Complete all the necessary admin, cleaning and housekeeping a small clinic needs

So are you interested in meeting us to see if this role might be for you? Please call us on 9707 3855. If you'd like to send in your C.V please send it to office@berwickvillagevet.com.au.
