Malvern Veterinary Hospital, Armadale, Inner Melbourne (posted 19th November)

Malvern Vet Hospital logo

Are you our next superstar Veterinary nurse?

Malvern Vet Hospital is searching for a Permanent Full-time or Part-time Veterinary Nurse to join the team and grow with them. Part-time approximately 33 hours a week including some Saturday's.

Have you ever sat down and really thought to yourself 'Why do I do what I do?'. Whilst writing this job advertisement I did just that and was pleasantly reminded of my personal purpose and why I come to work each day.

My mum was brought up in a small apartment in Paris, no space for her and her siblings let alone any pets. So when she grew up, she made countryside England her new home. She adopted all the pets she wished for and dreamt of as a child. My childhood was filled with an abundance of unconditional love and support from the pets we had, my cuddle buddies when I was feeling down. My pets positively impacted my life growing up and I wanted to repay my gratitude by caring for other people's cuddle buddies so that they were around to help through any hardship and share in their joy.

I have worked at Malvern Vet Hospital since 2008. I started as a trainee Vet nurse and am now the Practice Manager. There are many others who have worked here even longer than me, 1988 being the winner! Some have even returned after leaving. We have a supportive and caring management team who will listen to you and have your back. Staff turnover is low because we treat each other with kindness and respect and people enjoy working here. It also helps that we are paid higher than the award wages! Let's be honest, they are ridiculously low for what qualifications we bring to the team!

Malvern Vet Hospital is an independently owned and operated hospital, an ASAVA Accredited Veterinary Hospital of Excellence since 1981! We strive to provide all our patients with gold standards of care. We are a progressive and well equipped Hospital: Digital Radiology, Ultrasonography, Endoscopy, in-house pathology machines to name a few. We are also able to provide our clients with fabulous cat boarding and dog grooming services.

Our philosophy is to be compassionate to our clients, patients and each other. To be patient advocates and offer the best possible care. To be respectful to one another, with a really supportive team. To be outstanding in everything we do. We are constantly re-evaluating and improving our systems and are open to new ideas.

We are looking for a Full-time or Part-time experienced vet nurse who would like to be a part of a large busy hospital, with an amazing friendly and supportive team, where you are encouraged to grow your skills, and with the potential to move up the ladder when the time is right. We are looking for someone who takes pride in a job that is meaningful, and thrives on making a difference.

We are extremely accessible to public transport, with Malvern train station and tram stops a hop skip and a jump away. We are located in an affluent area with clientele who want the best for their fur babies. We are lucky enough to be able to provide patients with the kind of work ups and patient care we all want to practice.

If you are a like-minded experienced veterinary nurse who shares in our philosophies and ready to work in a busy, energetic hospital with a fun and supportive team email us your cover letter and resume to management@malvernvet.com.au

Vet Nurse - Part Time

You can start straight away if that works for you. If this sounds like a good fit, then read on.

We need a new nurse to join our crew – experience is ideal, but not an absolute necessity. We are a new practice that is expanding and empowering nurses to participate more and more in assisting our vets to get through their workload (take blood, insert IV catheters, intubate, dental scale & polish, and plenty more). Being caring and passionate are a must, but you will need to love people and want to help them solve their problems. We already know that you love animals!

We focus on team building, only the highest standards of care, and ongoing training both in the veterinary field, as well as personal development. We have all the toys in our purpose built, spacious practice – theraputic laser, DR digital radiography, DR digital dental radiography, latest in-house blood analyser, colour Doppler ultrasound, etc.

You'll need to be willing to push yourself to make a difference in our practice, and to our clients and their pets. If you are looking for "just a vet nurse job", then this position won’t suit you. However, if you value progression and learning, and working in an extraordinary practice with an exceptional team, please call Glen Hastie on 0409 196 110, and email your CV to: glen.hastie@gmail.com

Maribyrnong & Avondale Heights Veterinary Hospitals, Inner NW Melbourne (posted 31st October)

Maribyrnong & Avondale Heights Vet Hosps Logo

Maribyrnong/Avondale Heights Veterinary Hospitals

Inner Melbourne Western suburbs

Maribyrnong/Avondale Heights Veterinary Hospitals are seeking 1-2 Veterinary Nurses to join our family as contracted part time or casual, with the option of 35-38 hours per week also available in the future. The position will be based at both Veterinary Hospitals and will involve weekend work. The 2 positions are replacing one staff member going overseas to work, and another taking on full time work at a specialist practice – you can talk to both who will tell you all about us! Whilst experience is desired, it is not essential.

We consist of 2 small animal clinics located 5km and 10km west of Melbourne respectively, seeing mainly dogs and cats, but also approximately 5% pocket pets - rabbits/guinea pigs/ferrets/birds/reptiles. Our team currently consists of 21 Veterinary nurses and 11 Veterinarians working a mixture of part time, casual and full-time hours.

Approximately 10 of our current nurses have jobs at other Veterinary practices, or in retail/hospitality, and the positions would best suit someone in a similar position. We forecast our rosters 4 weeks in advance for blocks of 6-8 weeks which allows the flexibility our staff require for their busy lives. The jobs we offer cater for staff members who like either stability of set shifts/days, or flexibility varying with each published set roster period. Staff know their assigned shifts well in advance for extended periods, and are also able to pick up additional shifts at shorter notice if convenient and depending on mutual availability.

We are open 7 days a week, and have a busy and well supported workplace. We offer a "no politics" working environment, and are focussed on doing our very best for our staff, clients and of course the pets. We have an external payroll officer, as well as internal and external consultant HR.

Responsibilities and Duties

Qualifications and Skill requirements
A Certificate IV is desirable but not mandatory. Skillsets equivalent to level 3 or 4 in the Veterinary services award.

Minimum 2-year experience in a busy clinic environment is preferable, however all applicants will be considered and experience is not absolutely necessary.

Conditions, benefits and perks
Great Team Environment with great support – everyone is nice and everyone helps each other – you will be with at least 3-4 nurses and 2-3 vets all the time, and be involved in all aspects of hospital practice.
Cafe next door offering coffee, tea and food!
Highpoint Shopping Centre within walking distance
Close to Melbourne CBD and public transport.

Job Type: Contracted Part time or casual, both with flexible working arrangements.

Salary: As per award, from level 1 introductory to level 4. Every hour worked is every hour paid.

Whilst experience is preferred, all applicants will be considered, and we are more concerned with hiring the right person for the job. Applicants new to the industry will be well supported and undergo a well-worn path with respect to training. Some of our nurses stay a long time, others move on to bigger and better things. We pride ourselves in training staff such that when we are finished with them, they can work anywhere.

Thank you for reading this job ad and please email expressions of interest and curriculum vitae to doc.adrian@gmail.com. Interviews will be conducted Mondays and Thursdays between 11am and 1:30pm.
