Concord Veterinary Hospital, North Strathfield, Inner West Sydney (posted 3rd October)
Veterinary Nurse - Full Time
We are growing and expanding again! Concord Veterinary Hospital is looking for a full time Veterinary Nurse who will fit well into our busy small animal practice in Sydney’s Inner West. We currently employ eight veterinarians, eleven veterinary nurses, an assistant manager, hospital manager and four veterinary students.
The position involves a mixture of private practice and, via our longstanding affiliation with the Cat Protection Society of NSW – shelter medicine and surgery. A full Cat Protection Society rescue wing runs alongside the private hospital giving us great opportunities to perform procedures the majority of small animal clinics do not perform, as well as exposure to unique and complex medical cases.
Our team culture is very important to us and we take mental health very seriously. We hire for a great team fit first, and clinic skills second.
What we can offer you:
- No weekend work
- Our clinic hours are 8am – 6pm on weekdays (no more closing at 7pm – 8pm!)
- Above award salary – our senior nurses (many of whom have been with us for over 5 years) are paid well above award. Salary is initially commensurate with experience and reviewed regularly.
- We are a very busy practice with a high caseload – so you will be working in a fast-paced environment with an abundance of medical and surgical cases
- Your mental health is your wealth: $1500 mental health “bonus” paid annually (payable after 6 months of employment) to spend on psychology services or gym memberships. This is in place of an EAP program – which in the past – current employees did not find particularly useful. This very unique Mental Health Allowance enables you to select your own therapist; or for those that do not require regular psychology sessions – this can be used for gym memberships (for example) as we know physical activity is just as good for the mind
- Continuing education actively encouraged and fully financially supported
- Strong alliance with the Cat Protection Society of NSW – giving a great mix of private practice and shelter medicine
- A workplace with a seriously twisted sense of humour and great banter (The most important part for most of us!). Those who take themselves too seriously probably won’t fit in with us
- Let’s be honest – there are some average parts of a veterinary nursing role (answering phones, reception duties and cleaning out cages/runs when patients are discharged – however we want our nurses to do the fun stuff too, e.g. more clinical work. Think – blood draws, intravenous catheter placement, premedication and sedation, induction of general anaesthesia including intubation, performing radiographs under veterinary supervision, dental radiographs and prophylactic dental procedures.
- We are immensely proud that at Concord Veterinary Hospital – we do not have an us vs. them attitude between the veterinarians and the veterinary nurses. We are a team and we actively rely on you as our eyes and ears. We will listen to and consider your ideas and opinions with respect. When we have time – we actively discuss cases with our nurses.
What our ideal candidate might look like:
- High emotional intelligence
- Excellent work ethic
- A passion for animal welfare
- The ability to work in a busy environment and adapt between different roles as the roster dictates
- Be aligned with our mission statement – to provide personalised, compassionate and consistent veterinary care to all of our patients – be they private patients or via our rescue and shelter channels
- A great sense of humour
- Recently qualified or soon to be completed Certificate IV in veterinary nursing are actively encouraged to apply. We do not need you to have multiple years of experience – all we ask is that you have an excellent work ethic, willing to learn and are passionate about what you do
Concord Veterinary Hospital has three consulting rooms, two pharmacy/laboratories, IDEXX Procyte, Catalyst and Sedivue, two new surgical suites, dedicated surgical prep room and treatment/hospital room with a wet table. We are equipped with two IM3 Dental machines, two IM3 dental radiography systems, entire suite of dental equipment, digital x-ray (DR), brand new ultrasound machine, multiple anaesthetic machines, ValleyLab Ligasure system, IV fluid pumps and syringe drivers, and high quality anaesthetic monitoring equipment that monitors pressure monitoring, ETCO2, SPO2, HR, RR and temperature with every anaesthetic machine. We also have a Parkes doppler, blood transfusion equipment and ophthalmic equipment including tonovet and voroteks. In the future we are looking to add an additional consultation room, wet prep/dental room and a full CT suite.

The Wild Vet Animal Hospital, Glebe, Inner West Sydney (posted 2nd October)
Full Time Experienced Veterinary Nurse
About Us
The Wild Vet is an exotics and small animal hospital based in Glebe, just across the road from the beautiful Blackwattle Bay foreshore walk. We see an enormous variety of domestic pets, from cats and dogs to rabbits, parrots, pythons, fish, and dragons. With frequent wildlife care on top of our routine consults and cases, no two days are the same.
The Wild Vet is not your average vet hospital. If you’re looking to be a part of a team that cares for possums, echidnas, lorikeets, and bin chickens as much as the frequent flyer Frenchie, you’re in the right place! We are looking for a nurse to be a part of our team that is environmentally focused, strives to provide gold standards of care for all patients, has a high attention to detail, and is friendly and inclusive.
We are also proud to have a surrender over euthanasia policy. We have successfully treated and re-homed close to 100 pets since opening 4 years ago.
We know the “exotics” part of this can be daunting if you don’t have much experience outside of dog and cat nursing, but we strongly encourage nurses with dog/cat-only experience to apply! If you have an interest in exotics and are keen to learn, a lot of the new skills you’ll need can be trained on the job.
About The Role
You will be joining our team as a permanent full-time nurse working a 40-hour week inclusive of paid 30-minute lunch breaks across four days. 1 in 4 Saturday shifts are your only weekend work too. This role will be focused on gold standards of patient care, and you will be working in a team that has a varied caseload, with a strong emphasis on wildlife care and treatment.
About You
You are *that* nurse.
You know, the one that goes the extra mile for their patients, and cares about every single one as if they were their own pet. You’ve got your Cert IV in nursing along with (ideally) at least two years’ experience under your belt, and you’re looking for a clinic that prioritises the care of every animal that walks/slithers/bounds through the door. You may not have a heap of experience with exotics, but it’s something that interests and excites you! You want to find a team that has a great sense of humour, gets along with one another, and delivers awesome patient care every day of the week.
You’ve worked with EzyVet before (or are keen to learn the ropes), and your client communication is top notch, and you’re comfortable giving hospital and surgical updates to pet parents. You have a bright personality and a smile on your face even when the day gets a bit hectic. You prioritise excellent customer service, and work efficiently in a team as well as showing initiative when working alone.
Job Perks
- Bring your dog/bird/cat/dragon/whatever to work policy so you don't have to leave your loved ones at home
- Generous work/life balance (4 weekdays and only a 1:4 rostered Saturdays)
- Nespresso machine with every milk option in the fridge
- Nap couch
- Well-stocked snack draw
- A supportive work environment with an amazing team of vets & nurses
The key roles and responsibilities for this role include
- Surgical nursing, with high competency in anaesthetic monitoring, experience with exotic and wildlife anaesthetics is a bonus
- Medical nursing, including scheduled treatments, phlebotomy and catheter placement
- Experience (or a keen willingness to learn) with exotics patients, including reptiles, birds, amphibians, rabbits and guinea pigs
- Cleaning and packing surgical kits and instruments
- Nurse consultations, including dental checks, nutrition consultations, and new pet checks
- Use of Vet Radar to assess and document patient care
- Diagnostic testing using in-house Abaxis equipment
- Admission and discharge of patients
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to triage tasks and patients
- General organisation of the clinic
- High standard of personal presentation and punctuality
- Experienced use of Ezy Vet preferred
This amazing role is ready to fill immediately so we can have as much handover as possible, but we are happy to be patient for the perfect candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience. And if part time is more your vibe, give us a call and have a chat.
If this sounds like your dream role, send your CV and a cover letter to our Practice Manager, Liz Garling at: admin@thewildvet.com.au
