Salary Package: up to $180,000 dependant on experience (Base Salary up to $140,000 + relocation expenses + bonuses and entitlements).

Are you looking to practice an extremely high-quality standard of veterinary medicine in the heart of the outback, middle of the Never Never, doorstep to Kakadu and Litchfield? Looking for something different? Something a little bit more exciting and challenging? Looking to practice/expand your small and equine skills? How about practicing in one of the NT’s vibrant bustling towns, located in the outback of Australia?
Northern Territory Veterinary Services has a position for equine/small animal or predominantly small animal practitioner in its Katherine practice.
The Practice: The premises are purpose built, fully air-conditioned and include a dedicated surgical theatre, large prep/treatment room, lab room, vets’ office and on site horse yard. Equipment includes digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopes, stryker orthopaedic equipment and TPLO saw, in house Idexx lab machines, fluid pumps, pulse ox, ECG and BP monitors, digital dental x-ray, iM3 dental machine, fully computerized with Rx works and vehicles equipped for large animal ambulatory practice and remote community visits. We also operate Aboriginal Community Veterinary Services, providing services to remote indigenous communities throughout the whole NT. Visits last for 1 to 14 days, averaging 5 days duration and are often to spectacular and otherwise inaccessible areas. We work also with the local wildlife centres, treating a variety of native wildlife. We do a small amount of cattle station work, and this area can be focused on and grown if desired.

Remote Indigenous Community Practice: In Katherine, we also operate Aboriginal Community Veterinary Services, providing services to remote indigenous communities throughout the whole NT and North Queensland. Community trips will be fully mentored and then accompanied with a nurse. Visits last for 1 to 14 days, averaging 5 days in duration and often travelling to spectacular and otherwise inaccessible areas including Victoria River, Kakadu, Arnhem Land, the Roper Region and the MacDonnell Ranges. Our remote work offers unique veterinary experiences in remote areas not normally seen by the general public. It is a great way to enhance animal welfare in remote communities.
The Position: We are seeking a new graduate or experienced mixed animal or predominantly small animal practitioner.
Small animal work includes routine small animal medicine and surgery with advanced surgical options if desired, and a small component of birds, natives, exotics and pocket pets. Equine work is routine ambulatory practice for pleasure and station horses. Willingness to travel to remote Aboriginal Communities and overseas to take part in dog and cat health and control programs is also encouraged.
Continuing Education: At NTVS, we encourage further education and offer at least 1 week of continuing education per year to our veterinary staff. We will send staff to courses and conferences to help further their skills and knowledge in a variety of different areas. Special interests are encouraged and we strongly follow best practice and evidence based medicine.
The Town: Katherine sits in the heart of the Top End, surrounded by Nitmiluk, Litchfield and Kakadu national parks. It is only a 3 hr drive or 45 min flight to Darwin and is well serviced by schools, hospital, cinemas, cafes and restaurants and many sporting and social clubs. Popular outdoor activities include camping, hiking, fishing, boating, water skiing, horse riding and cycling.
Salary: Salary package of up to $180k dependant on experience, well above award for recent or new graduates. Total annual leave of 15 weeks (includes annual leave, study leave and accumulated RDO’s) leaves plenty of time for exploring the area, visits interstate or overseas holidays. Relocation Expenses covered. Salary sacrifice options are also available for rent and other items which can help maximise your after-tax income.
