We are seeking applications from experienced and passionate veterinary nurses for the position of Nurse Manager in our Surgery Department, in a fulltime capacity. This role is essential to the smooth and efficient operation of our surgical nursing and animal attendant team, focusing on positive leadership, procedure coordination and collaboration across our hospital.
Key Responsibilities include:
Positive Leadership & People Management:
- Lead the nursing and animal attendant team within the surgery department, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform probation and performance reviews.
- Perform recruitment for the nursing and animal attendant team within the surgery department.
- Oversee the nurse and animal attendant scheduling to always ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Oversee the approval of timesheets outside of normal rostered hours.
- Oversee the management of annual leave and personal leave requests.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Live the VSS values and lead by example.
Hands on Nursing and procedure coordination:
- Oversee and coordinate all surgical procedures (back up to procedures coordinator), ensuring optimal use of resources and adherence to best practices.
- Manage daily operations, organising workflows and collaborating with surgeons and other veterinary professionals to deliver high quality patient care.
- Work on the floor at least 2-3 days per week, providing ongoing training and mentoring to the team.
Facilities and Stock Management:
- Working with the Inventory and Facilities Coordinator to ensure the surgery is adequately stocked with necessary equipment and surgical implants.
- Participate in quarterly stock-take.
- Ensure all surgical equipment & autoclave is maintained and checked on a regular basis.
- Oversee the cleanliness of the surgery suite including facilitating regular environmental swabbing to ensure high standard of cleanliness is always maintained.
Reporting and Communication:
- Always maintain clear and effective communication channels with all team members.
- Submit a monthly report to the Hospital Operations Manager.
- Prepare for and attend weekly meetings with Hospital Operations Manager, providing a thorough update on performance, scheduling, concerns or to celebrate wins.
Who you are:
- A nurse with a Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or a Veterinary Technologist degree with a keen interest in taking that next step in your career into a management role.
- Previous experience working in a specialty hospital is desired.
- Exceptional organizational abilities with a focus on efficiency and high standards of care.
