NEC is a combination of daytime ambulatory work and emergency and referral practice with a range of services to manage routine work as well as surgical, paediatric, and emergency medical cases. Currently, our team consists of experienced veterinarians and interns including specialists in surgery and medicine as well as an enthusiastic support staff. Digital x-ray machines, endoscopy (dynamic and video), high quality ultrasound equipment, laser, in-house laboratory and dental instruments including a power float are available at our clinic.
The available position is a permanent full-time job although, part-time will be considered and can be adapted to include any areas of interest related to equine practice. Experience in anaesthesia is preferred and experience managing hospital cases is a plus. NEC staff all have a 4-day work week with a rotating on call roster (hospital emergencies only) with plenty of backup support of on-call specialists and nurses.
Salary range is well-above the award and commiserate with the experience of the applicant starting from $100,000 per annum plus superannuation. The successful applicant will be provided with a fully equipped car, petrol and a phone allowance as well as all registration and professional fees. Accommodation can be negotiated. Sponsorship for the right candidate is possible but all applicants are required to be eligible for registration by the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales.
Start time is flexible as positions are available starting in January, 2025.

About the Position:
The position is for a general Equine practitioner and will involve providing a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, dental and reproductive equine services both in the Hospital setting and in an ambulatory capacity. The position would be suited to a person willing to take on one or two of our Thoroughbred studs during the breeding season and manage their breeding and non-farm veterinary work. You would have the opportunity to work alongside our highly experienced reproduction vets and our north American board certified surgeon to help you manage reproductive and surgical cases.

The Position:
The role is 100% equine and includes both ambulatory and hospital based cases. It includes all that we love – lameness, general surgery, medicine, farm calls, reproduction (natural, AI – chilled and frozen, ET) and racetrack work.
We are able to tailor the position and case load to suit your own professional interests. There is scope to grow and develop particular areas of the business. Someone who is proactive and progressive will be best suited to this position.
After hours is minimal, a 1-in-3 or 1-in-4 roster with generous remuneration, allows flexibility and time to enjoy life outside of work.

We are seeking a new graduate or experienced mixed animal or predominantly small animal practitioner.
Small animal work includes routine small animal medicine and surgery with advanced surgical options if desired, and a small component of birds, natives, exotics and pocket pets. Equine work is routine ambulatory practice for pleasure and station horses. Willingness to travel to remote Aboriginal Communities and overseas to take part in dog and cat health and control programs is also encouraged.
Katherine sits in the heart of the Top End, surrounded by Nitmiluk, Litchfield and Kakadu national parks. It is only a 3 hr drive or 45 min flight to Darwin and is well serviced by schools, hospital, cinemas, cafes and restaurants and many sporting and social clubs. Popular outdoor activities include camping, hiking, fishing, boating, water skiing, horse riding and cycling.
Salary package of up to $160k dependant on experience, well above award for recent or new graduates. Total annual leave of 15 weeks (includes annual leave, study leave and accumulated RDO’s) leaves plenty of time for exploring the area, visits interstate or overseas holidays. Veterinarians will be provided with a fully equipped vehicle, laptop, and mobile phone. All are maintained by the practice and accompany a generous, above award salary commensurate on experience. The salary range is $80,000 to $125,000 p/a negotiable on the individual's experience.

Official Veterinarian & Welfare Officer
Racing NSW is the statutory regulator of thoroughbred racing in NSW responsible for the control, supervision and regulation of thoroughbred racing throughout the State.
Applications are invited for the position of Official Veterinarian & Welfare Officer in the Sydney region.
The position reports to the head of the Integrity Department and has responsibility of assisting the Chief Veterinary Officer in providing high level scientific and clinical veterinary expertise to safeguard the welfare of thoroughbred horses and the integrity of the NSW racing industry.
Core responsibilities include:
- Officiating at race meetings by providing veterinary advice to stewards and trainers as well as first aid care of racehorses.
- Manage race day to ensure best practice veterinary care and prohibited substance testing.
- Conducting sampling process for Racing NSW testing drug testing programs and the supervision and monitoring of the sample collection process on race day.
- The provision of industry advice in relation to veterinary, welfare and drug-related matters.
- Providing veterinary care to horses on the Racing NSW Welfare farms and assisting farms with veterinary advice.
- Assisting with research projects (designing and collection of samples) that relate to the welfare of horses and integrity of racing.
- Recommending and implementing technology and advancements to improve the welfare of horses.
- Assist with Canterbury Park Quarantine Centre and the monitoring of international horses.
The successful applicant will have:
- A degree in veterinary science registrable in NSW (essential).
- Experience working with thoroughbred horses (desirable).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage and supervise staff.
- A strong sense of initiative and the ability to identify critical issues.
- The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- The capacity to work well under pressure to meet team objectives.
- A current NSW Driver's Licence.

About the opportunity
This is an outstanding opportunity for an Equine practitioner with an interest in equine reproduction to work within our centre and advance their career. Reporting jointly to the Head of our Equine Unit and Senior Registrar in Reproduction, the Staff Veterinarian- Equine Ambulatory (HE06) / Clinical Veterinary Registrar – Equine Ambulatory (HEO7) position will join the Camden Equine Centre (CEC) team within the UVTHC in providing high quality equine services in an ambulatory setting supporting the hospital-based services as required. The role also has an emphasis on reproduction and we seek someone with membership/s and/or experience/interest in this area of practice.
When outside of the equine breeding season, you will work in the equine ambulatory service each week under the direction of the Equine Unit Head and Senior Lecturer of Equine Practice. This includes participating in a weekly roster covering visits and call outs to clients within the local area for routine and emergency care in the field and during breeding season to equine studs and clients. This role assists in growing the equine unit through the provision of high-quality clinical care, customer service and teaching. When working in the equine reproduction and ambulatory service you will be involved in the supervision and clinical teaching of students on rotation. The newly established reproduction clinical service is in its growth phase and therefore it is anticipated that the applicant is also interested and enthusiastic about taking on new clientele and building the service.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- provide high quality clinical treatment to equine clients engaged with our growing reproduction service
- provide high quality clinical treatment and care to equine clients with a focus on ambulatory practice
- provide clinical instruction to veterinary students on rotation to the equine service at Camden
- actively participate in study groups, clinical rounds and journal club
- ensure compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory controls and ensures a safe working environment for all staff and students
