About the role
Our 12–18-month medicine internship program provides you the opportunity to work closely with our experienced medicine team with extensive exposure to and training in all areas of medicine. The learning program includes structured teaching, hands on experience, as well as participation in weekly journal club and case rounds. You will gain clinical experience in monitoring a wide range of complex medical cases, managing oncology patients and administering chemotherapy, and basic training in advanced medical procedures such as abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy. This is a full-time position.

The training program offers clinical experience in specific disciplines and an opportunity to gain formal scholarly training through concurrent enrolment in a graduate program. These positions would suit a recent graduate veterinarian interested in further university training and upskilling in areas that would be relevant to general practice, or a steppingstone to further clinical training such as a residency. Exceptional new graduates will be considered.
An annual stipend of $40k is offered with concurrent enrolment in the graduate program which results in award of a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies after completion of 2 semesters. Course fees are paid by the School. Applicants must be able to start the program in early to mid-July for Semester 2, 2025 enrolment.

The three-year, full-time residency programs allow a successful candidate to target credential requirements for speciality certification. A minimum annual stipend of $50,000 (tax free) is offered to residents enrolled in the program.

Veterinary Surgery Internship - ARH Essendon Fields

Where you will be working
ARH Essendon is a 24-hour multi-disciplinary emergency and referral hospital. Dr. Simon Kudnig, who is a fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (FANZCVS), a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Dip ACVS) and an ACVS Founding Fellow of Surgical Oncology, is the head of the Surgery department.
We see a wide range of orthopaedic, soft tissue, neurologic and oncologic surgery, including advanced surgical oncologic procedures. We are equipped with arthroscopy, digital radiography, IMEX linear and circular external fixation systems, TPLO equipment, Kyon equipment (PAUL), BioMedtrix THR equipment, Ligasure, Invetra pedicle screws systems, Novetech equipment, negative pressure wound therapy system, various plating systems, neurosurgery equipment, as well as a CT scanner, MRI unit and C-arm fluoroscopy on-site.
Your New Role
The Surgery department is staffed by 3 ACVS-boarded Specialist Surgeons, a surgical Resident, 2 surgical Interns, and a large team of highly skilled surgical nurses. The role encompasses assisting the surgeons with consultations, diagnostic procedures, surgical procedures, case management and patient discharges, assisting the nurses with anaesthesia, and assisting with post-operative care of patients. Interns will also be trained in performing diagnostic procedures such as radiography, CT and MRI.
About You
- You must be a registered veterinarian or have a veterinary degree recognised in Australia
- Excellent communication skills and work ethic, as well as a strong knowledge base on which to build
- Clinical experience is desirable but not essential
- This position is suited to a highly motivated vet seeking to further their skills and knowledge in small animal surgery

About the internship
Interns work under the guidance of our medical neurology specialist and resident, assisted by experienced nursing staff. Interns also have close involvement with our other professional services, including specialists in internal medicine, surgery, diagnostic imaging, critical care and oncology.
Interns are expected to participate in daily rounds and weekly journal club or case presentations. They are encouraged, if eligible, to work towards completion of an ANZCVS membership examination and/or a peer reviewed publication within the year.

Veterinary Clinical Residency Position
University of Sydney School of Veterinary Science
The Sydney School of Veterinary Science is currently recruiting for a resident in:
Large Animal Theriogenology – Camden
Commencement Date: 1st July 2025
This three-year, full-time program supports a resident to fulfil the credentialing requirements for specialisation in Theriogenology (Animal Reproduction) through examination by the American College of Theriogenologists. The residency is supported by board-certified specialists in theriogenology with support from specialists in internal medicine, surgery, dairy health and production, sports medicine and epidemiology along with the wider support staff of the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital team. The purpose of the program is to satisfy both the minimum training requirements of the American College of Theriogenologists and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC) for registration as a specialist in Veterinary Reproduction.
Residents will manage cases under direct and indirect supervision and interact closely with specialists, registrars, and other residents across a range of specialty fields. A collaborative approach to learning and patient care is always encouraged. Residents will be required to participate in daily patient rounds, journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds and resident pathophysiology seminars. Residents will be expected to assist in teaching senior veterinary students through lectures, tutorials, practicals and during clinic rotations. Participation in a shared after-hours roster will be expected as part of clinical learning.
The clinical caseload focuses on primarily cattle and horses, with exposure to other less common domestic species such as small ruminants and pigs. Additional training in small animal species will be organised through formal externships and training in related disciplines. The resident will gain clinical competence in basic and advanced applied reproductive techniques which focuses on the following: equine breeding management, routine bovine reproductive procedures, semen processing and sperm cryopreservation, management of high-risk pregnancies, obstetrics (elective and emergency), dairy herd health, Assisted Reproductive Technologies (Ovum Pick-up (OPU), in-vitro fertilisation and conventional embryo recovery and transfer in cattle and horses), and reproductive surgery. Additional training opportunities in advanced reproductive techniques in specific species will be encouraged based on the successful candidate’s interests. The resident will also be able to learn and collaborate with leading researchers within the University of Sydney’s Animal Reproduction Group and embryologists within the School of Medicine.
This program requires completion of two concurrent postgraduate degrees, a research Master’s, and a Master’s by coursework. The Scholarship Package for the successful candidate includes:
a. A tax-free stipend allowance of $54,000 pa, paid every 2 weeks for the duration of
the residency for up to three years. The Scholarship is indexed at $500 per annum on
1 January.
b. Academic course fees for this program at the Commonwealth Support Place (CSP)
student contribution amount rate, for up to six semesters, subject to satisfactory
academic performance.
c. An educational allowance of up to a maximum of $2,000 per annum, reimbursed
against receipted claims.
d. A research support allowance of up to a maximum of $4500 throughout the duration
of the Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies degree, which is available to research
supervisors, reimbursed against approved receipted claims.

SASH is excited to announce that we are looking for a specialist intern to join our Avian and Exotics team in our North Ryde hospital. You will work closely with our current Exotics team consisting of 3 Vets, including our Avian Specialist, Dr Melinda Cowan, a resident and dedicated avian and exotics nurses. You will also be further supported by the broader SASH team as you work closely with each department across the hospital. You will be provided with strong mentorship and a dedicated team, guiding you through your internship. On completion, you will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to provide you with a solid foundation for a residency program in avian and/or exotics medicine. This position is suited for individuals wishing to pursue specialty training in avian and exotics or veterinarians looking to enhance their skills with these incredible creatures. The focus of this department is pet animals. While we do see the occasional zoo animal or wildlife case, these do not form the bulk of our work.

Job Description
Your New Role
The Surgery department is currently staffed by 2 Specialist Surgeons (Fellows of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists), one surgical Registrar, a surgical Resident, and one surgical Intern, and a large team of highly skilled surgical nurses. The role encompasses assisting the surgeons with consultations, diagnostic procedures, surgical procedures, case management and patient discharges, assisting the nurses with anaesthesia, and assisting with post-operative care of patients. Interns will also be trained in performing diagnostic procedures such as radiography, CT and MRI. The commencement of the program is currently flexible, ideally prior to January 2025.
The surgery intern’s responsibilities and activities support the efficient and effective management of cases presented to the Surgery Department both as primary referrals and via the emergency service. In this role, the intern works cooperatively with, and under supervision of the surgical specialists, registrar and resident. This affords a considerable opportunity for clinical and professional development with exposure to a wide range of surgical cases and is intended to foster the intern’s interest in further learning and facilitate their progression to advanced clinical training in the discipline. This will require a balanced approach to capitalising on learning opportunities and attendance to clinical duties, requiring initiative, self-motivation and enthusiasm in both aspects of this role.
Specifically, the regular duties of the surgery intern include:
- Assistance with admission of patients to, and discharge from, the hospital
- Organisation and preparation for anaesthesia of surgical patients
- Induction of anaesthesia and supervision of anaesthetic monitoring by surgical nurses
- Providing assistance to, and guidance of, the surgical nurses in the preparation of patients for surgery and performing adjunctive analgesic procedures
- Scrubbed assistance in surgery
- Supervision and management of patient recovery, as monitored by the surgical nurse
- Review of patient treatment/hospital charts
- Brief evening rounds with the responsible ICU clinician to transfer case responsibility overnight
- Assistance with diagnostic imaging investigations including radiographs, CT and MRI (external facility) examinations after appropriate training and licensing requirements have been met
- Preparation of surgical reports relating to procedures that the intern has been involved in as the assistant surge
- Thorough examination, assessment and care of any hospitalised surgery patients (including cooperation with the surgery nurse in performing any ancillary tasks).
- Preparation of daily inpatient records for hospitalised surgery patients
- Timely and comprehensive reporting to the specialists on the condition of their inpatients.
- Communication with clients and referring veterinarians on behalf of the surgeons when requested.
- The surgical intern is not required to contribute to the on-call roster although there is the potential for the intern to participate in rostered in-patient care on Saturday mornings.
- Participation in, and contribution to, weekly surgery rounds/journal club sessions
Qualifications
- Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration in Victoria and have excellent communication skills and work ethic, as well as a strong knowledge base on which to build
- Clinical experience is desirable but not essential

About the GARS Surgery Service
The surgical department consists of five surgical specialists with a team of residents, interns and nurses who are supported by specialists in imaging, medicine, oncology and critical care to provide stellar patient care.
Our three operating theatres are truly enviable, overlooking the neighbouring golf course with each fully equipped with endoscopic towers, mono/bipolar electrocautery, suction and Bipolar Vessel Sealing Devices. Two of the theatres also have electric fluoroscopic tables to facilitate minimally invasive image guided neurologic, orthopaedic and interventional radiology procedures. We have multiple locking plate systems (LCP, SOP, Fixin) in all sizes from 1.5 to 4.5mm plus a complete speciality plate range (DPO, SHO, PCA, PanTA, ParTA, supracondylar etc). We also have Biomedtrix iLoc Interlocking nail system, IMEX circular and linear ESF in all sizes.

The Sydney School of Veterinary Science is currently recruiting for a resident in:
Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (Equine)
Commencement Date: Tuesday 1st July 2025.
This three-year, full-time program supports a resident to fulfil the credentialing requirements for specialisation in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (Equine) through specialist examination by the American College Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. The residency is supported by board-certified specialists, and additional clinical staff that make up the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital team.
Residents will manage cases under direct and indirect supervision and interact closely with specialists, registrars, and other residents across a range of specialty fields. A collaborative approach to learning and patient care is encouraged at all times. Residents will be required to participate in daily patient rounds, journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds and resident pathophysiology seminars. Residents will be expected to assist in teaching senior veterinary students through lectures, tutorials, practicals and during clinic rotations and participate in afterhours ambulatory roster as needed.
This program requires completion of two concurrent postgraduate degrees, a research Master’s, and a Master’s by coursework. The Scholarship Package for the successful candidate includes:
a. A tax-free stipend allowance of $54,000 pa, paid every 2 weeks for the duration of the residency for up to three years. The Scholarship is indexed at $500 per annum on 1 January.
b. Academic course fees for this program at the Commonwealth Support Place (CSP) student contribution amount rate, for up to six semesters, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
c. An educational allowance of up to a maximum of $2,000 per annum, reimbursed against receipted claims.
d. A research support allowance of up to a maximum of $4,500 throughout the duration of the Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies degree, which is available to research supervisors, reimbursed against approved receipted claims.

This new full-time role combines elements of internship, independent Vet and Urgent Care Vet. You will be doing:

This is a full-time position (three positions available) and the roster will rotate Mon-Sun between various shifts, including nights and weekends. The position is permanent, or until you decide you’ve learned enough (is there every such a thing?!) or want to move to a full-time Urgent Care role.

GARS is a multidisciplinary small animal referral hospital staffed 24/7. Onsite specialists in surgery, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging, oncology and anaesthesia are supported by residents, department specific interns, reception and nursing staff.

GARS is very fortunate to have the Barwon River, Balyang Golf Course and Balyang Sanctuary with their natural green spaces, including bike and walking paths right on our front doorstep. The popular cafes, restaurants and bars of Pakington street and Geelong CBD are only minutes away. The outstanding wineries and distilleries of the Bellarine peninsula and beautiful beaches of the Surf Coast and famous Great Ocean Road Greater are less than 25minutes away. Pay and Conditions
- This is a salaried full-time position based on a 4-day working week. Some of these days will be on weekends. In addition to this, interns will provide after-hours support on a rotational basis.
- Regular working hours are 8am-6pm, however reasonable flexibility to work beyond those hours on a given day is required if clinical responsibilities dictate this.
- Annual leave, personal/carer’s leave, parental leave, compassionate leave and community service leave will accrue and be provided in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009.
- Some mobile work may be required in the GARS mobile service and our sister business Melbourne Animal Referral Services (MARS).
- Superannuation paid additional to salary package at 11.5%
- CPD allowance is 2% of base wage
- Radiation Licence expense covered during employment.

About the Neurology and Neurosurgery Service
The Neurology and Neurosurgery team at SASH North Ryde currently comprises of four specialists (ACVIM Neurology, ECVN), one residency-trained registrar, one resident, two specialty interns, a rotating intern and a team of dedicated nurses. We specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological and neurosurgical disorders of animals, and are fully equipped to offer the highest level of care with on-site High-Field (1.5T) MRI, CT, electrodiagnostic suite, neurosurgical operating theatres, onsite pathology, and radiation therapy (LINAC) and rehabilitation facilities. Our team’s busy and varied caseload (approx 1,200 new patients per year) will support an excellent clinical training experience.
The Residency Training Program
We have an exciting residency training position in Veterinary Neurology & Neurosurgery. This three-year, full-time position is structured to support all requirements of a European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) residency training program.
The successful applicant will be required to both assist and take primary case responsibility for our neurology & neurosurgery patients, ensuring that they and their owners get the best veterinary care possible.

The Internship
We have an exciting position available for a Neurology & Neurosurgery intern.
