Newest Clinic on the Block!!
We are excited to be opening a small animal hospital in 2025 to complement our vigorous and rapidly expanding mixed/equine ambulatory team. Vet in the Valley is a privately owned, 3 vet practice (4 in 2025!), predominately ambulatory practice with an equine base for hospitalisation and work ups. Our clients have begged us to expand our services and we have obliged.
The small animal hospital is currently undergoing renovations, and we are expected to have it up and running in mid-2025. The clinic is in the local town of New Norfolk which is about 35 minutes from central Hobart. The clinic will have all the standard bells and whistles – in house bloods, orthopaedics gear, two surgery rooms, dental gear, Xray tables, separate dog and cat wards, ultrasound ect.
We also do farm animals and equine work if that floats your boat. State of the art equipment, equine dental trailer, complete set of dental extraction equipment, Easi-scan ultrasound with goggles, pulsator, SLEIP lameness locator, gastroscope, ultrasound, Next digital radiology, fully equipped vehicles with a continual expanding clientele base. We do everything from farm animal disease outbreaks to Group 1 racehorses.

We are a strong amazing team that have worked together to create a culture we all dream about (also we don’t mind making the odd TikTok together)!
This job is what you make it! We ideally are looking for a full-time experienced small animal only veterinarian, but we can honestly make anything work. As we develop our small animal clinic, we will value your opinions and inputs to ensuring this is the best clinic ever. We are in it for the long term, and we are determined to make this clinic something that resonates with our local community but also with our current team and we’d love someone else along for the ride.

LONGFORD, NORTHERN MIDLANDS - SMALL ANIMAL POSITION IN MIXED
Full Time Small Animal Vet Role in Mixed Practice Clinic - Veterinarian Required
Experienced Vet Preferred
Do you want to work nine days a fortnight; with a supportive, fun, young and dynamic team; in a clinic that is only open week days, have no afterhours; and be well paid for it…?
Longford is located in the heart of the Northern Midlands in beautiful Tasmania. It is about a 15-minute drive south of Launceston (the largest centre in the north of the State, population >100,000). Our practice is less than 10 minutes’ drive from Launceston Airport, which offers direct and affordable flights to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – the flight to Melbourne is only 45 minutes!
We love living in Tasmania. Our island home has amazing scenery and outdoor opportunities, including camping, mountain biking, bushwalking, fishing, surfing and skiing, all on your doorstep. Launceston is a well serviced and vibrant centre, with a thriving arts and culture scene, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and shopping. Tasmania’s capital city, Hobart, can also be easily reached – only 2.5 hours’ drive to the south.
Some members of our team are fairly new to Tasmania, but have settled in nicely and are starting to feel like locals already! We currently have 9 vets, and due to rapid growth in our family-owned and operated business (and our wish to maintain a family-friendly work-life balance!) we are looking for a tenth vet to join our team. We are looking for someone who is a great communicator, hard worker, enjoys a joke, and strives for good outcomes for patients and clients alike. Advanced medical or surgical skills would be highly regarded.
Our team is fun, experienced, young and dynamic, and strives to practice high quality and gold standard veterinary medicine. We are a very supportive workplace, and enjoy helping one another through difficult cases – we have 9 vets with a range of experience levels who are all easy going and approachable. Our clients are friendly, appreciative, and generally very happy to work up cases.
Our current case load is approximately 70% small animals and 30% large animals (with a mix of dairy, beef, horses, small ruminants and wildlife). Our clinic is very well equipped with: EzyVet Practice Management Software; in-house haematology and biochemistry; Digital Radiography; MindRay M6 Small Animal Ultrasound; IM3 Dental Unit; Pulse Oximetry; Blood Pressure Monitoring; Ap-Alert’s; Orthopaedic and Soft Tissue Surgical Equipment; Surgical Suction; IV Fluid Pumps; Rhinoscope; and Video Endoscope. We’re due to move into a brand-new purpose-built facility in November set in lovely surroundings.

You also don’t have to start on-call until you are ready – for most new grads this is usually around the 3-month mark. Once you’ve found your feet don’t worry because ALL vets have a designated backup vet on the weekend and for weeknights there is always another vet willing to help if required!
You will be working from a modern, spacious, purpose-built clinic which includes a whole office level upstairs. We have some great toys to make our lives easier including two mobile tipper crushes, five portable ultrasounds, bull fertility testing equipment and an in-house blood analyser for large and small animals. We have all the usual small animal equipment including vetetome (dental game changer!) bone plating gear and digital radiography. We pride ourselves in being very active in farmer education through the provision of seminars and courses, and also at a higher industry level with Dairy Australia.
Apiam Benefits:
Salary is generous for new graduates plus you will receive paid AVA membership, VSB registration fees, VIN, CVE and Plumbs App subscriptions plus access to an online text and journal library. A decent car, mobile phone and relocation assistance are also part of the package.
We offer paid volunteer leave and maternity leave and plenty of other perks that come with being part of the Apiam family. Opportunities across the Apiam clinics are encouraged, and we offer industry-leading internal training.
New and recent graduates’ benefit from our Graduate Development Program which offers mentorship, small group support and hands-on workshops.
If you are an exceptional new graduate with a genuine interest in dairy cattle and want to join our team, we would love to hear from you.
