YARRAMBAT/NORTH WARRANDYTE, NORTH-EAST MELBOURNE - MIXED
Full Time mixed animal veterinarian position
The Veterinary Surgery is looking for a mixed animal veterinarian to join The Veterinary Surgery team (Yarrambat & North Warrandyte).
70% Small, 15% equine, 15% mixed animals.
We are seeking a veterinarian who will work well in a large, friendly and supportive team of vets and nurses that provide a high level of care to our patients.
Please click here to see photos!
The Position:
- Well-supported position within a great team of 10 vets spread across two clinics
- 4 x 9.5 hour weekday shifts with one rostered weekday off, plus 1 in 4 Saturday morning shifts
- 1 in 7 weeknights on call plus 1 in 7 weekends on call
- 4 weeks annual leave plus one week paid study leave with a further $1500 CPD allowance
- Attractive remuneration
- Large and varied medical and surgical caseload, rarely limited by financial constraints
- Best suited to a motivated, versatile and progressive vet
- Best suited to a vet who will appreciate and contribute to a culture of fun in our workplace
- Baking is looked upon favourably
The clinics and the business:
- Main clinic located in Yarrambat, a picturesque and semi-rural suburb approx 45 mins northeast of Melbourne's CBD
- Branch clinic located in Warrandyte, a beautiful village nestled in the green wedge alongside the Yarra River, 40 min east of the CBD
- Independently owned business with two directors who will happily clean cages, and work shoulder to shoulder with the associates
- Both clinics comprehensively equipped with premium diagnostic and monitoring equipment.
Words from one of our Associate Vets:
- We are one of the few clinics where is it possible to live in the "city" and do mixed animal practice
- Our nurses are well-trained to look after us, not over-book and give us enough time for consults, phone calls and catch-ups. Lunchtimes and home-times are considered sacred, and we almost always get out on time. If you want to leave the clinic to go for a walk or pick up lunch at lunchtime, that is almost always possible.
- Doing on-call is an opportunity to serve the local community, to gain unique experience, learn to think on your feet and see some cool cases, but we also have the ability to refer small animal emergencies to 24-hour centres so they can receive the best of care (which also means on-call isn't overly busy)
- As we see such a variety of animals and cases, there is definitely the ability for vets to develop a special interest - anything from alpacas, or equine dentistry, or small animal behaviour. But otherwise, this is an awesome clinic to become a well-rounded mixed animal practitioner, with vets experienced in different areas to provide support and guidance.
- Our large animal work is often for clients who keep a small number of these animals as pets, and so individual diagnostics and treatment are often pursued, but there is also the scope for doing some herd health work if vets are interested
- We have the ability both to work-up and treat complicated cases in-house, and use travelling specialists, but also, we commonly refer and have excellent relationships with specialist centres
- Our clients are generally excellent, usually very respectful and keen to do the best for their animals. As a small independent practice, we have many clients that have been coming to the clinic for decades and value the personalised care we can provide for their animals.
- We are a very casual, friendly, chatty bunch. We work hard but have fun. The radio plays out the back. We often sit and have lunch together. The vet team are very supportive and approachable and share cases and ideas and ask each other for help commonly.
Please contact Andy Lynch at andrew.lynch@thevetsurgery.com.au or at the Yarrambat Veterinary Hospital 03 9436 1699 to register your interest or to further discuss the position.

HAMPTON EAST, MELBOURNE BAYSIDE - SMALL ANIMAL
Experienced Veterinarian - Full time at independently owned and operated, newly renovated clinic.
About us:
The Moorabbin Veterinary Hospital is a large, purpose-built small animal practice.
We have just completed a major renovation and now have a new modern hospital with separate dog and cat wards, open workspace with wet table, separate dental suite, imaging room, enlarged surgery and a very comfortable staffroom.
Established in 1958, we pride ourselves on our thriving, collaborative and organised working environment. We are independently owned and operated by two currently practising veterinarians, who, like you, want to work in a pleasant environment in a sustainable way.
We know that burn out is real, so our break times are scheduled and respected and overtime is very minimal. We are big on giving you enough time to do your job well, with routine appointments being allocated 20 minutes, and the more complicated cases allocated 30 minutes. We have a large clientele base that are very appreciative and will allow you to work up cases properly.
This job is a great opportunity for you to work to the highest level of general practice care, with colleagues who are compassionate, knowledgeable, and skilled.
We are a 10-veterinarian team, typically running with 4-5 vets per weekday, who are supported by 5-6 nurses and 2 dedicated receptionists each day.
We have all the usual high-tech equipment, including wall mounted CR Vet digital dental x-rays, IM3 Vet-Tome, Tono Vet tonometry hand piece, video otoscope and high-quality ultrasound with 2 newly upgraded probes. Plus, we have a new Breville Espresso coffee machine, because we know good coffee is just as important as good veterinary equipment!
Our surgical suite is fully equipped for advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures. If surgery is your thing there are plenty of opportunities to get your hands bloody, collaborate with an experienced membership surgeon and scrub in with visiting specialists.
If your interests lay outside of the theatre, 3 of our vets have memberships in medicine, along with others working towards memberships in behaviour, medicine, and dermatology that you can collaborate with. Other areas of interest amongst our experienced team include clinical pathology, ophthalmology, dentistry, and ultrasonography. Need help? We’ve got your back!
No matter your area of interest we encourage you to forge your own path and are happy to financially support continuing education and the purchase of specialised equipment. There’s plenty of opportunities for internal referrals to allow you to see the cases you are most interested in.
About you:
We are looking for a full-time veterinarian. Being a part of our rotating weekend roster is a must.
Our ideal candidate must be passionate about delivering high quality clinical care, whilst having empathy and being a strong communicator. On top of all the serious stuff, we don’t mind having a laugh and are looking for someone who can fit in with a fun bunch of individuals who aren’t afraid to have a good time.
Whether you’re seeking a new challenge, a shift in career direction or a relocation to a new environment, we would love to have a chat. If you have any questions or require further information about the role, please do not hesitate to reach out.

HAMPTON PARK, SOUTH EAST MELBOURNE - SMALL ANIMAL New Position
Hi, I’m Dr Cameron and I own Hampton Park Veterinary Hospital.
Ever been stumped trying to answer a question…?
Wracking your brain but coming up with nothing…?
For 28 years I have been solving medical problems for pets on a daily basis but this one question was so difficult to answer.
What was the question that stumped a Vet with 28 years experience…?
“Why should someone work with Dr Cameron and the team at Hampton Park Veterinary Hospital?”
Now I wasn’t stumped because it’s such a terrible place to work but because it was easy to answer the obvious things…
The team…
The clients…
The facilities…
But those things are what I feel every other practice owner seems to say.
What stumped me was being able to truly articulate what makes us unique (we Vets are traditionally very modest!).
So, just like when I get stumped by the answer to a medical puzzle I turned to colleagues, clients and specialists for some insight.
Here is what they said…
“Integrity and honesty underpins all their relationships.”
We pride ourselves on doing the right things the right way for the pets, their owners and those who are part of my team
“Fairness.”
Everyone client and team member is treated equally and respectfully.
“Compassion.”
Apparently there hasn’t been a day I haven’t gone home talking about the clients and pets that came through the consult room or surgery.
Caring is a verb not an adjective.
“Ambition.”
I have always set myself lofty goals and targets and I love to take others along for the ride and help them to do the same.
“Commitment.”
Even after 28 years I still love to continue to tweak and make improvements to my skills and how we do what we do.
What might you take from this..?
If you join the team I go to bat for you. You will be well supported to achieve the goals you have for yourself and evolve into the best Veterinarian you can be.
If you join the team your voice will count. We are a small but tight knit group where everyone contributes valuably to delivering excellent service.
If you join the team you will be treated well. If there is one thing I have learnt it is to value ourselves as professionals and the skills and service we deliver.
Of course, if you join the team there is the usual stuff I mentioned earlier too…
Not forgetting excellent remuneration based on experience.
If joining a team that is led with these guiding principles as their north star sounds attractive then we should talk.
You will be perfect if…
- You have a few years’ experience, so you know your way around a consult room…
- You take pride in doing your very best for yourself, the pet and their owner…
- You are a people person…
- You enjoy the cut and thrust of a GP small animal clinic.
I am really looking for someone who is committed to cementing their career with us.
The good news is that you will be able to do this AND work part time. It is a role suited to you if you are keen for 20 to 25 hours per week.
We are pretty flexible with how this works although it requires a regular Saturday morning shift.
Unlike most other jobs going I’m not going to ask for a CV or a cover letter (well not right away…).
If you are keen to learn more let’s have a no strings attached chat and explore what the future might look like. If it’s something worth exploring further I am sure we will both know it!
Send me an email at cameron@hamptonparkvets.com.au or a text on 0493 248 187 and we can go from there.
