THE POSITION
This busy role offers a diverse range of work including racetrack, reproduction, lameness, pre-purchase examinations, preventative care, dentistry, and surgery. The applicant will receive a well-stocked vehicle (for personal and work use) and access to a portable crush, state of the art dental equipment, ultrasound machine, endoscope, portable digital x-ray machine and in-house laboratory services.

An on-call roster of 1 in 4 weekends supports a good work/life balance.

Junior Veterinary Surgeon

This is an exciting opportunity for a junior clinician to join our team of 20 veterinary surgeons. The position will involve working for both the Department of Veterinary Clinical Services and the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy, allowing the successful applicant to gain a thorough understanding and the practical skills related to all aspects of racetrack veterinary practice.

The position will be primarily based in Hong Kong, at the Sha Tin racing complex. In addition, you will provide veterinary cover on a rotational basis at the HKJC’s Equine Hospital located at Conghua Racecourse, which is in China, approximately 4 hours’ drive from Hong Kong. You will work closely with senior colleagues and there will be opportunities to gain valuable experience and develop practical skills in a busy, world-class racing environment. You will be encouraged to contribute to ongoing and future research projects. Accommodation will be provided.

The Junior Veterinary Surgeon is primarily responsible for:

providing assistance to senior colleagues;

in the administration of daily treatments during routine stable rounds
in the performance of diagnostic procedures such as airway endoscopy, gastroscopy, radiography, ultrasonography, MRI and nuclear scintigraphy
during pre and post-race veterinary examinations and race day operations
by supporting general veterinary-related services such as accompanying airport convoys and convoys between Hong Kong and Conghua

performing general anaesthesia and assisting with elective and emergency surgery
management and treatment of hospitalised patients

Ideally, you should:

hold a degree recognized by the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong
have some experience in equine practice and be able to demonstrate competence in core clinical skills

THOROUGHBRED PARK, NORTH CANBERRA - EQUINE AMBULATORY New Position

EQUINE VETERINARIAN

A equine veterinarian with a fun personality is sought after for our ambulatory practice based at Thoroughbred Park, Canberra ACT.

A veterinarian with an interest and experience in racing, surgery and lameness would be advantageous. Remuneration package starts from $130k and includes a fully equipped and insured car.

Located 15min from Canberra CBD, the role will mainly service clients based at thoroughbred Park, ACT as well as extending to nearby Queanbeyan Racecourse. In between these two centres are also several equestrian facilities which may require weekly visits usually for lameness and medical treatments.

The practice currently is well established with a large client base and will be supported by 2 experienced equine vets. The veterinarian will have their own car and the latest equipment (DR xray unit, Asteris DICOM cloud software, ultrasonography, flexible endoscope, gastroscope, shockwave, thermography.

The role will be 5 days per week with no after hours. The practice is a subsidiary of the Crown Group which has similar practices in Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast. Clients include highly respected racing identities and FEI registered competition horses and venues.

This is an integral role to our practice providing routine, advanced and emergency services alongside senior and associate veterinary surgeons. Seeing a broad range of leisure horses, sports horses, thoroughbreds and the occasional donkey too. NEC is a combination of daytime ambulatory work and emergency and referral practice with a range of services to manage routine work as well as surgical, paediatric, and emergency medical cases. Currently, our team consists of experienced veterinarians and interns including specialists in surgery and medicine as well as an enthusiastic support staff. Digital x-ray machines, endoscopy (dynamic and video), high quality ultrasound equipment, laser, in-house laboratory and dental instruments including a power float are available at our clinic.

The available position is a permanent full-time job although, part-time will be considered and can be adapted to include any areas of interest related to equine practice. Experience in anaesthesia is preferred and experience managing hospital cases is a plus. NEC staff all have a 4-day work week with a rotating on call roster (hospital emergencies only) with plenty of backup support of on-call specialists and nurses.

Salary range is well-above the award and commiserate with the experience of the applicant starting from $100,000 per annum plus superannuation. The successful applicant will be provided with a fully equipped car, petrol and a phone allowance as well as all registration and professional fees. Accommodation can be negotiated. Sponsorship for the right candidate is possible but all applicants are required to be eligible for registration by the Veterinary Practitioners Board of New South Wales.

MANGALORE, SHIRE OF STRATHBOGIE, VIC - EQUINE

Yulong Stud has a position within the Veterinary team of our business.

Working alongside four resident Vets you will cover all aspects of a thoroughbred stud.

Yulong is a growing thoroughbred stud based in Nagambie, Victoria. Spread over 4,000 acres and across four adjoining properties, Yulong currently has eight resident stallions and 700 broodmares with over 350 foals to yearlings. Consigning yearlings at all major sales throughout Australia, and a racing team of 200 plus horses gives the Veterinarians great job variety and exposure to all aspects of the business.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and organised person who wishes to be part of a close-knit Veterinary team as well as learning the structure and management of a thoroughbred stud. As we are currently in the development phase of two of the additional stud properties, you would be involved with input into set up and design of Vet working areas within these properties.

The chosen candidate would be joining an established Veterinary practice with a Practice Manager, three Full-Time Veterinary nurses, one Part-Time Veterinary Nurse, and Stud support staff. The Veterinary team is a very friendly group with a strong passion to provide excellent patient care while still pursuing a good work life balance. With support from the other resident Vets, you will share the on-call roster with the option of having four-day weeks in the months of May, June and July.

Yulong’s Veterinary facilities include a full Laboratory comprised of Hematology, Biochemistry, PCR and Blood gas machines along with the ability to do cultures and sensitivities. We also have portable ultrasound, digital radiograph and video endoscope machines. Additionally, our practice has strong relationships with nearby equine referral hospitals and therefore referral and additional support from internal medicine specialist, surgeons and theriogenologists is also available.

Reproduction would be the main focus during the breeding season and being proficient with scanning mares pre and post service, mid-trimester placental scans, pregnancy testing and twin ablation is essential. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience with emergency stud work, foal medicine, yearling endoscopy, and radiography as well as racehorse lameness. However, a Veterinarian with less experience in the latter areas will still be considered as mentorship from the senior stud Veterinarians will be available. We would encourage you to attend seminars and clinics to further your education in all fields of Veterinary work and the company will provide financial support for this.

You would have the opportunity to attend yearling sales to oversee the veterinary care of our yearling draft whilst on the sale complex. As well as assisting management with yearling inspections and completing thorough pre purchase clinical examinations, reading pre-sale x-rays and evaluating pre-sale upper airway endoscopy videos.

We currently have over 100 staff and the ability to effectively communicate as well as assist with ongoing education of the stud staff is vitally important to the growth of the business.

The breeding side of the operation is located within the beautiful wine region of the lower Goulburn Valley. We are located a quick 1.5-hour drive or train ride into central Melbourne. A fifth property, Yulong Park, serves as the spelling farm for our racehorses and is located on the opposite side of Melbourne and is only a short drive away from the Mornington Peninsula.

About the Position:

The position is for a general Equine practitioner and will involve providing a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, dental and reproductive equine services both in the Hospital setting and in an ambulatory capacity. The position would be suited to a person willing to take on one or two of our Thoroughbred studs during the breeding season and manage their breeding and non-farm veterinary work. Currently we are looking to employ an experienced equine vet. The position could be for a fixed period or permanent after a probationary period. The ideal applicant will be able to confidently perform a range of equine reproductive and dental services and general equine practice. Experience in lameness, anaesthesia, more advanced medicine and surgery would be highly regarded. These services are mainly delivered from the hospital, but out calls may sometimes be necessary. The ideal candidate would be able to assist with hospital-based consultations and medical care and support the surgeons with their caseload. Wyong Equine Clinic is now looking for a full time experienced equine practitioner to join our team. A minimum of 3 years equine practice experience is preferable, ideally with reproductive experience.

Our clinic is an ambulatory equine centre, with a fairly even spread of racing & performance horses, as well as stud work & pleasure horses.

We are located on the beautiful Central Coast of NSW just 15 minutes from the beach. The Central Coast is located an hour between Sydney and Newcastle and is an hour drive from the Hunter Valley. Our clinic is equipped with digital x-ray units, video and portable endoscopic equipment, ultrasound and dental power floats etc.

Our team consists of 4 full-time equine veterinarians who work 4 days a week and share on call (current roster 1 in 4). Our veterinarians are experienced, work well as a team and are willing to provide advice and mentoring. A work car, fuel allowance and phone are included. Annual memberships and CPD provided.

Are you looking to practice an extremely high-quality standard of veterinary medicine in the heart of the outback, middle of the Never Never, doorstep to Kakadu and Litchfield? Looking for something different? Something a little bit more exciting and challenging? Looking to practice/expand your small and equine skills? How about practicing in one of the NT’s vibrant bustling towns, located in the outback of Australia?

Northern Territory Veterinary Services has a position for equine/small animal or predominantly small animal practitioner in its Katherine practice.

The Practice: The premises are purpose built, fully air-conditioned and include a dedicated surgical theatre, large prep/treatment room, lab room, vets’ office and on site horse yard. Equipment includes digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopes, stryker orthopaedic equipment and TPLO saw, in house Idexx lab machines, fluid pumps, pulse ox, ECG and BP monitors, digital dental x-ray, iM3 dental machine, fully computerized with Rx works and vehicles equipped for large animal ambulatory practice and remote community visits. We also operate Aboriginal Community Veterinary Services, providing services to remote indigenous communities throughout the whole NT. Visits last for 1 to 14 days, averaging 5 days duration and are often to spectacular and otherwise inaccessible areas. We work also with the local wildlife centres, treating a variety of native wildlife. We do a small amount of cattle station work, and this area can be focused on and grown if desired.

Remote Indigenous Community Practice: In Katherine, we also operate Aboriginal Community Veterinary Services, providing services to remote indigenous communities throughout the whole NT and North Queensland. Community trips will be fully mentored and then accompanied with a nurse. Visits last for 1 to 14 days, averaging 5 days in duration and often travelling to spectacular and otherwise inaccessible areas including Victoria River, Kakadu, Arnhem Land, the Roper Region and the MacDonnell Ranges. Our remote work offers unique veterinary experiences in remote areas not normally seen by the general public. It is a great way to enhance animal welfare in remote communities.

The Position: We are seeking a new graduate or experienced mixed animal or predominantly small animal practitioner.

Small animal work includes routine small animal medicine and surgery with advanced surgical options if desired, and a small component of birds, natives, exotics and pocket pets. Equine work is routine ambulatory practice for pleasure and station horses. Willingness to travel to remote Aboriginal Communities and overseas to take part in dog and cat health and control programs is also encouraged.

Continuing Education: At NTVS, we encourage further education and offer at least 1 week of continuing education per year to our veterinary staff. We will send staff to courses and conferences to help further their skills and knowledge in a variety of different areas. Special interests are encouraged and we strongly follow best practice and evidence based medicine.

The Town: Katherine sits in the heart of the Top End, surrounded by Nitmiluk, Litchfield and Kakadu national parks. It is only a 3 hr drive or 45 min flight to Darwin and is well serviced by schools, hospital, cinemas, cafes and restaurants and many sporting and social clubs. Popular outdoor activities include camping, hiking, fishing, boating, water skiing, horse riding and cycling.

Salary: Salary package of up to $180k dependant on experience, well above award for recent or new graduates. Total annual leave of 15 weeks (includes annual leave, study leave and accumulated RDO’s) leaves plenty of time for exploring the area, visits interstate or overseas holidays. Relocation Expenses covered. Salary sacrifice options are also available for rent and other items which can help maximise your after-tax income.
