We are a forward thinking practice that believes our greatest asset is our team and if we look after and invest in our team, the team will be able to provide the best care to our clients' patients.
We have only ever advertised for this position once before.

Note from our Veterinarian – Dr Jaime,
I started working for MHVC nearly 4 years ago as a recent graduate, following 2 internships in referral practice. It was my first experience in general practice, and how lucky I was to have such an amazing clinic and team to nurture me into the vet I am today! The team was extremely supportive and helped grow my client communication and practical skillset enormously. We are lucky to be regional, therefore receiving a high and varied caseload, so you will never be bored. I had the opportunity during my employment to sit my memberships in small animal surgery, further growing the practice into one with surgical focus, including complex soft tissue and some orthopaedics. We would love to have someone join us with a keen interest in surgery, or to compliment the team by bringing further medical or dental skills. A love for your clients is a must here, as we are a very bonded clinic. Our clients are very loyal and caring, which always makes me leave for the day with a sense of fulfilment. MHVC has been an amazing place to work over the last few years, and we would love to have another passionate vet join us to grow and develop our team.

We are expanding! :)

An exciting and rare opportunity has become available for a friendly, professional and enthusiastic veterinarian to be part of our wonderful team.

We are an independent family-owned clinic where best practices are maintained and every decision is made with the client and their pets best interest at heart.

You will enjoy a supportive management and nursing team providing a positive and enjoyable workplace.

We understand the importance of a good work-life balance and we work hard to achieve this. There are no on-call duties, we close at 2pm on Saturdays, closed Sundays and have very limited sole charge work.

We understand in order to provide the best care for our patients you require the equipment to perform effectively.
We have a completely equipped surgery suite including Stryker orthopaedic drill set, electrocautery unit and Surgivet anaesthetic monitoring. Complementing the surgery suite the clinic also has a Digital x-ray, Mylab ultrasound, integrated Vetscan VS2 and Haematology REM blood analyser, brand new MACH Theatre, Procedure and examination lights and an im3 dental suite.

The lovely and easy scenic highway cruise is an enjoyable 35 minutes downtime in your car either way to or from work and against the traffic if you live in the city. Here’s what it’s like working with us.

Already interested in a career with Sage Vets? Then we would love to speak with you. Get in touch with us here: clint.h@sagevets.com.au Work the life you want

At Sage Vets we believe in a healthy work-life balance. No long, tiring 10-hour+ days, or 50-hour weeks followed by 30-hour weeks. You work a standard set of hours, that you agree upon upfront.

Our Live Everyday Policy

You don’t need to put your life on hold until your days off.

Our rosters are separated into three core eight-hour shifts. Our morning shift finishes at 3:00pm, our afternoon shift starts at 12:00pm, and there’s the standard 9:00am-5:00pm in there as well.

Your roster will see your work vary across all three shifts, giving you the maximum opportunity to Live Everyday. That’s our policy.

Make your weekends your own

We know weekends are important to you, so we’ve limited our weekend hours to two clinic locations only. With up to 14 vets as part of our team, the frequency of weekend work ranges from 1-in-4 to 1-in-7. When you do work the weekend, you get two additional days off to make up for it.

Our shout

When you work a Friday night or weekend, we cover your meals. It’s our shout.

Enjoy up to six weeks annual leave

On top of the standard four weeks, all Sage Vets employees can purchase two additional weeks’ leave. If you purchase this extra leave, this means that in total you’ll receive two weeks leave paid at your full pay rate, then four weeks leave paid at a half pay rate.

Part of a strong support network

At Sage Vets you’re never in this alone. Each of our staff is supported by a group of over 50 vets and nurses, all here to help you succeed. This network is available to you at all times, whether it’s in person, or via our iPad video link that provides real-time support across all of our clinics.

You’re never left in sole charge

You’ll always work alongside a team of qualified vets and experienced nurses, who can support you as you learn. We believe in setting our staff up with the confidence to make the right calls, and the structure available to provide the trust that Sage Vets has your back on the decisions you make.

How we work

Locally-owned and locally-run

Sage Vets isn’t a big corporate chain. Our management team consists of our General Manager and our Administration Manager, who you’ll get to know and see around. There’s no corporate bureaucracy or no operation models where one person dictates the standards for our clinics. This is part of our General Manager’s passion for protecting your autonomy, and encouraging you to make your job your own.

No sales targets—ever

Our focus isn’t on sales or revenue; it’s on providing the best quality customer service we can. This is a major part of our values, and makes us who we are. So we measure your performance based on the level of service you provide to our customers.

You’ll never stop learning

At Sage Vets you’re in control of your development, so you continue to learn as your career grows. You receive:

A Personal Development Plan tailored to your career goals. Your Plan provides you with access to funded, ongoing education opportunities, and veterinary networking experiences.

Quarterly check-on meetings to set your development goals for the next quarter, identify any communication skills you want to learn, and identify any gaps we can help you close.

Registration to the Veterinary Surgeons Board, plus we cover 50% of your AVA fees. So if you know you’ll be a good fit at Sage Vets, then we would love to speak with you. Get in touch with us here: clint.h@sagevets.com.au

KALAMUNDA, EASTERN PERTH - SMALL ANIMAL

Want to enjoy being a vet?

One of our vets is leaving to go and live in another town and we’re wondering if you would be interested in joining our team?

We are a family-owned, 4-FTE vet equivalent small animal veterinary hospital in Kalamunda, WA.

Please click here to see photos! photos

The main thing I’m offering you is time!

This is what one of our vets has to say about us;
I have been part of the Kalamunda vet hospital family for over 6years and hope to be for many years to come. I think we have a real family feel at our clinic, both with all the staff, often chatting about cases and asking each other's opinion, catching up for nibbles and drinks, but also with our clients and patients. Many of our clients take up the option of diagnostics and choose best treatment for their pets which gives a lot of job satisfaction.

As a boss John is a kind and approachable person who has always been very accommodating where possible and even more so once I started a family. He is always open to new ideas and new toys/equipment if there is something you feel would be helpful/improve the quality of care for our patients. He is also very supportive of further studies/areas of interest and often runs information sessions with specialists (ultrasound, dental, oncology etc) or gives access to online seminars on-top of our continuing education allowance.

I feel that all of this, and more (including a brand new clinic building!) is what makes Kalamunda Vet so enjoyable and rewarding”, Dr Becky.

So, are you interested in moving? Or do you know someone who is?

Please let know, I looking forward to hearing from you,

John Houghton.

BUNBURY & EATON, SW WA - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

What was important to me as a new graduate?

I was lucky. My first job was great. It set my career up to be enjoyable, sustainable, and balanced. (if anyone is looking for a mixed practice job, I can recommend Swans Veterinary Services in Esperance).

When I look back on my first few years, these are the things that made it a great start to life as a vet:

  1. Support. I had the right amount of support. The bosses were always there when I needed help, but they also let me find my own way in a safe and supported manner. I was able to develop my skills are a comfortable rate.
  2. Mutual respect. Whenever we had an interesting case, the bosses would always ask me what I was taught at uni, and then talk about their experience with the condition. The learning flowed in both directions, which benefited us all (especially the patients)
  3. Reasonable hours. We worked hard when we were at work, but were encouraged to leave on time and have interests outside of work. The need to be a complete person was always prioritised.
  4. A great team. I enjoyed going to work. I felt that the staff and the clients were like friends, and I genuinely enjoyed my time there.
  5. Good equipment. The boss had a motto, “be the first, and be the best”. There was always good quality equipment so the job could be done in a way which we were always proud of.
  6. Paid what I was worth. I started off on a basic wage and worked hard to prove my worth. After a few months I approached the bosses for a pay rise of $X. They came back to me the following day saying they felt I was worth more than that, so gave me twice the pay rise I had asked for. Although pay has never been a major priority in my life, vets need to be paid enough that they can enjoy their life outside of work. As such, all our staff are on a minimum of 15% above award rates, and we would expect vets to progress well beyond that.
  7. Understanding that there is life outside of work. If any of us had something important on, we swapped and covered each other. In the first 2 years of my career I never missed a sports game and my boss never missed a sail.
  8. Family comes first. My first bosses were husband and wife. They were also great parents and had lovely kids. I now make sure I’m home to have dinner with the kids every night and play a bit of back yard cricket, and also coach them in hockey and surf club nippers.

Having such a great start to my career the reason I have not just survived, but thrived in the job. I have carried on with the lessons I learned in those early days, and it’s how we run our business now. We have a great team, great clients, very good equipment, and a life outside of work for all our staff.

Please click here to see photos! photos

This is what one of our vets had to say about working with us:

“I have worked at Bunbury Vet Clinic for over 20 years now. I really like working with all the staff finding it a very friendly and supportive environment to work in. I love the number of staff dogs that regularly come to work, showing how much as a practice we all love animals. All the staff animals provide for a stress release at work in a profession that can at times be very stressful.  I have 3 children and management has always been very supportive and allowed me to have time off to either look after or to support my children, which has made family life much easier and has allowed me to continue in my profession.

As a practice we value and support each other, especially the new graduates. I feel as one of the senior vets in the practice quite strongly about supporting new graduates coming into the profession, and in turn love learning new ideas/methods of treatment from them. As vets, we all freely communicate regularly, having discussions about our cases, which I feel can only improve the outcome for the patients.

I enjoy working at the Bunbury Vet Clinic and find it very rewarding, which can be seen by the fact that I have been here for over 20 years.”

If this sounds like the sort of start you would like for your career, please send a CV and cover letter to Josie (if you’ve ever watched the show Suits, Josie is our “Donna”). Her email is josie.hobbs@bunburyvets.com.au
