Most importantly: a comfortable staff room complete with snacks, Breville espresso machine (and coffee) to kick start your morning and for those well-deserved breaks!

The Staff: Our vets and nurses pride ourselves on having great interpersonal relationships and making work feel less like… work! We’ve had minimal team changes over the years – we just keep growing. Our days are carefully scheduled to avoid being overloaded and to ensure we can always practice a high standard of client and patient care. We value both personal and professional growth and ALWAYS have each other’s backs.

The Role: General veterinarian with some surgical experience. One rostered day off each week, and one short Saturday morning shift in every four weekends. No Sundays. Really, we just want a nice person who feels comfortable and confident talking to people, who is a competent all-round veterinarian, and who knows how to work in a (super fun) team. Working hours are flexible, and your salary (paid well above award rates) is wholly negotiable based on your level of experience. Work-life balance is a huge priority for us, and you can be assured your life outside of the clinic will also be valued. We don’t do after hours – we think the Emergency Centres do a better job for our clients. Four weeks paid leave per year.

Sick of Endless Vaccination Appointments? – Join us in Emergency & Critical Care

The same old grind of vaccinations, dentals and other things general practice can wear you down after time.  Stretch your veterinary wings and dip your toes into ECC.  Emergency & Critical Care is a beast unlike any other in the veterinary industry.  One moment you’re happily snacking away on some popcorn, updating your CE, the next you’re actively saving a life!  We aren’t saying those extremes are the only things you see.  You’ll see plenty of emesis of weird and wonderful things, wondering to yourself why animals eat random things (we have seen a Paw Patrol toy removed from a dog’s stomach), and multiple pets who are just not quite right.

We are looking for a full-time vet, however, if you want to start as a casual to test the waters before taking the plunge, we are open to that as well.

MELBOURNE NORTH EASTERN SUBURBS - SMALL ANIMALS

Do you want to work in a privately-owned clinic that practices ethical medicine? We are in need of a veterinarian to replace a valued team member relocating to the country for a sea-change.

On offer is the opportunity to work with a group of nine vets providing high-level care to loyal and trusting clients. We are looking for an experienced vet but a confident recent graduate of 1+ years experience may also be considered.

The successful applicant can choose to work full or part-time hours. For a part-time role, the vet will work a minimum of two days per week and 1:3 weekends.

On offer is the opportunity to work in our busy small animal practice with 2 locations. Our caseload is varied and interesting, and very little is referred. Our practice has good clients who are open to investigating and working up cases. Many of these clients have been with the practice long-term.

The clinic aims to provide a high-quality, ethical service to our clients, with no targets or KPI's to be met. The successful candidate will enjoy being part of the team and will strive to provide the highest standards of care.

There are many special interests within the team of long-term staff members, such as feline medicine and behaviour. Some members of the vets have a strong background in ultrasound, including echocardiography and abdominal ultrasound.

Vets are supported by a team of experienced nurses. All nurses have their Certificate IV, or equivalent qualification.

The clinic is well-equipped including digital x-ray, in house laboratory facilities, ultrasound, endoscope, Tono-pen and blood pressure monitoring.

The practice is located in Melbourne's leafy northeastern suburbs. Situated just 40 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, the suburb is peaceful and beautiful. The local facilities are excellent and include good public and private schooling, public transport, a wide selection of shops, eateries, parks, walking and cycling tracks.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Our close knit team has many long term employees, and we pride ourselves on maintaining a healthy and respectful team culture within our practice. With most of our veterinarians juggling work and parenthood, including 2 of the partners, we are extremely family-friendly.

Below are testimonials from two of our vets:

"Working at the Diamond Valley Veterinary Hospitals for the past 4 years has been an amazing experience.  The working environment is incredibly supportive, and the dedication and proficiency of the team shone through in recent busier times! Clients are very dedicated to their pets and to the clinic making for a very cohesive approach to their animals care and plenty of opportunity for learning and career development. I’d highly recommend the widely respected DVVH!"

"I have worked with the Diamond Valley Vet team for nearly 13 years. In that time, I have found the team to be really supportive, friendly and kind and really willing to adapt to changes in how we practice as vets and nurses and how the clinic operates to make it a family oriented environment, which is flexible with the things that come up in life. The managers are always willing to listen to new ideas and ways to improve. The wealth of experience within the team is a real asset in dealing with tricky or complicated cases. They have supported my varied continuing education interests over the years and we often ask each other for 'second opinions'. The last 18 months have been challenging for the veterinary industry and the management have always maintained staff safety as their prime aim throughout the pandemic, while still maintaining a great level of care with our patients."

Please email CV to Dr. Sarah Trewartha strewartha@dvvet.com.au or call 03 9439 1111 to discuss the position further.

COLLINGWOOD, INNER NORTH EAST MELBOURNE - FULL OR PART TIME SPECIALIST IN RADIOLOGY

Specialist in Veterinary Radiology

The Centre for Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE) is seeking a registered specialist in veterinary radiology to join our friendly team.

About CARE

CARE is a busy, well-equipped, privately-owned, multi-specialist veterinary hospital located in Collingwood, on the fringe of Melbourne’s inner-CBD. It maintains a strong emphasis on the standard of patient and client care and is distinguished by the cooperative and complimentary involvement of specialist emergency and critical care, surgery, internal medicine, neurology, and diagnostic imaging services.  The working environment is friendly and constructive, and the caseload moderated to allow emphasis on the quality, rather than the quantity, of patient care.

Existing diagnostic imaging facilities include digital radiography, Phillips Affinity 50G ultrasound, Siemens Somatom 16-slice CT and Phillips BV29 mobile C-arm fluoroscopy with digital subtraction angiography. Beyond this, there is a strong commitment to the continued expansion and advancement of on-site imaging facilities, with PACS system and digital radiography upgrades in process and future plans for high-field MRI installation.

The position

An opportunity exists for a specialist in diagnostic imaging who enjoys and values integration and positive interaction with specialists in other clinical fields with the intention of optimising patient management. This clinical exposure has the potential to be interesting and rewarding, and the direct involvement of the diagnostic imaging specialist in clinical problem solving is well established, welcomed, and well respected among existing staff of the hospital.

The position involves performing and providing reports for diagnostic ultrasound examinations, the ad hoc provision of diagnostic imaging advice and interpretation to facilitate case management within the hospital, responding to email enquiries from bona fide referring veterinarians for assessment of diagnostic images and, when possible, the provision of written reports for CT studies performed within the hospital.

Further to the clinical aspects of the role, the diagnostic imaging specialist is central in the provision of advice on the purchase and upgrade of diagnostic imaging equipment and the ongoing expansion of existing imaging services at CARE. Active involvement in the provision of staff continuing education and contribution to the maintenance of diagnostic imaging protocols would be expected.

The working hours of the position are flexible and negotiable, being either part or full time depending on the availability of the successful applicant, and do not typically involve after-hours work.  An attractive remuneration package would be negotiated, including four weeks’ annual leave and one week of study leave annually (full time pro-rata). Relocation assistance is available for successful interstate or international candidates.

How to apply

Applications, including letter of intent and CV, or any enquiries, should be directed to Sophie Haynes at shaynes@carevet.com.au

BERWICK, SOUTH EAST MELBOURNE - SMALL ANIMAL

Part Time or Casual, Experienced Veterinarian position

The Berwick Village Vet is in need of a Part Time or Casual Vet. Minimum 2-3 years experience is a must. We are happy to accept any hours, half days or full days, hours to suit daycare or school. We are a 2 Vet 5 nurse practice located in Berwick. We have a fantastic clientele, and although we have the odd eccentric, we really don’t have the same number of crazy clients many practices see.

We have had a great Vet locum/casual for many years, but she has stepped back a bit to help her husband’s business struggle through Covid induced staff shortages.

Our aim is to develop a practice where workflow is well managed, and the day is comfortable. Our aim is to be busy when we are here, be able to take time off when we want, and go home and spend quality time with our “better halves” and children! We double book cases we feel will need time to work up (ears, skin eyes etc), and are planning on increasing our nurse responsibilities to help with those jobs they can do, are good at, and increases their work satisfaction.

It is our aim to have a practice structure that works for us. We have temporarily closed on Saturdays and we believe this will become permanent in the near future. Our hours are 9am to 7pm Mon to Fri.

We are two general practice Vets. Referral is well covered with MVSC accepting surgical and medical referrals, VRH accepting the same and with an emergency centre attached, and CPE taking emergencies out of hours, so we are well supported.

Here in the clinic, we pride ourselves on achieving the best result for the patient. We love our surgery, but don’t do complex orthopaedics or cases that would be best served by a specialist, just to “keep the business.” We are happy to work with the applicant and either refer in house to them if they are surgically inclined, or receive in house referrals or refer to specialists if they are not interested in doing anything complex.

It’s hard to put a number on remuneration, so let’s discuss it! It will be dependent on experience hours etc. For the financially motivated we are happy to include a bonus system, the ins and outs of which can be discussed more comprehensively.

Does this position interest you? Would you like to know more? Jeremy can be contacted on jbjaus@yahoo.com.au or at the clinic on 03 9707 3855. Want a call after hours? Organise it through the clinic and it will be done!

Do you want to be practising high quality surgery and medicine in a way that will make a real impact on the welfare of all creatures, great and small?

We have a heavy emphasis on CE with Dr Natalie Webster holding monthly imaging rounds, Dr David Clarke giving a two-day dental workshop and Dr Bruce Parry holding cytology sessions all lined up for this year. KEYSBOROUGH, SOUTH-EAST MELBOURNE - SMALL ANIMAL

Episode IV A NEW JOB

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away…

It is a period of upheaval in the veterinary industry, job ads are many, applicants are few. Amongst the multitude of clinics looking for a new vet, one clinic stood out. This clinic believes that a vet clinic can be a happy place for staff, clients, and their pets. Staff are supported, respected and encouraged to develop in their area of interest. It is an independent, family owned clinic with protocols to provide guidance and an acknowledgement that there is no one ‘gold standard’ treatment which is suitable for all clients and pets. It has a strong belief in low stress handling protocols and is working towards accreditation for the entire team.

While other clinics are stressed and burning out this clinic has a happy team who enjoy laughing at the lighter side of life while working to help clients enjoy life with their pets. Social events such as games nights and axe throwing are planned, and mocktails on a Friday are a frequent occurrence.

This practice has continued to grow and develop, and now it needs you!

If you would like the opportunity to work in a genuinely supportive and flexible workplace, where life outside of work is seen as an important part of a happy life at work, please get in touch (even if you don’t like Star Wars!).

New/recent/soon to be grads are welcome to apply, we have 3 experienced vets here to support you.

Experienced vet looking to return to work part time and wanting to fit around childcare/other commitments, speak to us about how you could fit in with our team.

Experienced vet who only wants to do surgery? Never wants to do surgery? For the right person either option is possible.

Part time or full time work is available for the successful applicant.

At Keysborough Vet we have all the usual toys, and great clients. Salary is well above award, and dependent on skills and experience. No Sundays, and no after hours.

For more information or to apply please contact Dr Nicole Hillier at keysivet@bigpond.net.au.

PEARCEDALE, MORNINGTON PENINSULA - SMALL ANIMAL New Position

Are you tired of it all coming down to the money?

Negative client interactions taking a toll on your mental health?

Do you want to get back to your roots and find the passion that drove you to become a vet?

Do you want to be practising high quality surgery and medicine in a way that will make a real impact on the welfare of all creatures, great and small?

Then it's time to look at a career with RSPCA Victoria - Peninsula.

Life at RSPCA Victoria is varied and exciting, but our Peninsula branch has a special kind of zen. The country life feel and a relaxed pace mixed with a high standard of veterinary medicine and surgery. Country life does not mean facilities are second best.  RSPCA Peninsula is soon to be the home of our Cat and Small Animal Centre (CASA). A $4.75 million-dollar purpose-built facility opening in January to provide care and shelter for more than 2500 cats, rabbits and guinea pigs.

Please click here to see what it’s like being part of our team.

We have a heavy emphasis on CE with Dr Natalie Webster holding monthly imaging rounds, Dr David Clarke giving a two-day dental workshop and Dr Bruce Parry holding cytology sessions all lined up for this year. And it doesn’t have to be just cats and dogs; you might find yourself developing a special skill or interest in exotics or explore leadership and mentoring opportunities; the lateral room for career growth is limited only by you.

At RSPCA Victoria euthanasia is only performed when it is in the best interest for the welfare of the patient - we do not euthanise based on resources or capacity. When work up or treatment is beyond our capacity is required, we are supported by external specialists.

Please click here to see photos! photos

We have a strong emphasis on team culture, work life balance and mental health. But by far one of the best aspects of working alongside likeminded vets and nurses who are dedicated to speaking up on behalf of the underdogs (and cats, and exotics) of the animal world.

What we are looking for from you

Qualifications and other requirements

How to apply

If you'd like to explore the successfully balancing a career and family and truly get back to what inspired you to become a vet forward your expression of interest and CV to Bronwyn at boke@rspcavic.org.au for a confidential discussion.

KOO WEE RUP, MELBOURNE SOUTH EAST - MIXED ANIMAL

15 years ago, as a bright-eyed new graduate, I turned up for my 1st day of work as a Veterinary Surgeon full of the excitement and trepidation that I am sure we all feel. I was issued with a set of keys, a car, a roster and thrust into a consulting room with a waiting room full of clients.  That was where the support given started and ended.

There were 4 vets in the clinic including myself, two of us were week one new graduates, one was a more experienced vet whose wife had just had their first baby and the clinic owner who was rarely seen other than to head to the office to take another handful of prescription pain killers for which he had an unhealthy addiction.  The atmosphere was tense and there was an ethos of get your head down, do your job, and do not speak about it.

I could regale you with stories such as the time I had to carry out my 1st GDV surgery which was out of hours with only a junior nurse and a few disgruntled words of advice over the phone for assistance, but I think you get the idea. Needless to say, I only lasted six months and with a huge amount of guilt for the now new, new graduate that I left behind I handed in my notice and moved on promising that if I ever had the opportunity, I would never let this happen to anyone else.

We all started in Veterinary science with a common goal to be the best patient advocate that we can.  Some say it is to be the voice of the animal, but it is more than that.  As veterinary surgeons we need to not only ensure that any immediate health issues are resolved but that the animals within our community are given every chance to maintain that health for as long as possible by looking beyond the immediate and planning for the future. The pets and animals that we treat on a daily basis provide a significant role in the health, enjoyment, and for our production clients financial income for their human counterparts and we have to listen to and understand what they are telling us as well as the animal.

What does all this mean for you? Well 6 years ago, myself and my husband purchased Station Street Veterinary Clinic and have made it our goal first and foremost to provide a workplace that is supportive and inspires people to be the best version of themselves that they can.  From this we have built the most amazing foundation from which to provide the absolute best animal advocacy, married up with a fantastic customer experience. The success of this is reflected in our high average transaction value and exceptional net promotor score! We are always seeking to expand on what we do and encourage all forms of development, be it improving processes, technological innovation, or professional advancement.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Job Highlights:

For the new graduate veterinary surgeon:

Located in the peri-urban town of Koo Wee Rup, Station Street Veterinary Clinic allows you to live an urban, semi-urban or fully rural lifestyle.  It is an ideal location to support your hobbies and interests outside of work with beautiful beaches, Melbourne’s iconic CBD, ski fields and mountains all close by.

We would welcome you to come and visit us and would love the opportunity to show you around.

To arrange a visit or if you would like to discuss the position further then call us on 03 5997 2222, or email your CV to Dr Sophie Elphick BVSc, MANZCVS (Equine Medicine) at admin@stationstreetvet.com.au
