Veterinary Ophthalmology Intern - Australia
Animal Eye services is offering an 18-month Veterinary Ophthalmology Internship starting June/July 2024.
Animal Eye Services is a 25 year established Specialist Veterinary Ophthalmology Practice in Brisbane, Australia. We are currently growing and adding to our strong team of Specialist Ophthalmologists and Residents. Our veterinarians are supported by a wonderful team of trained Ophthalmology Nurses. We are an independent practice working within a purpose built multi disciplinary specialty hospital with three dedicated surgical suites, ophthalmology diagnostics suite, prep areas and two dedicated consult rooms. We also service branch consulting spaces on the Northside of Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We are seeking a motivated veterinarian to join our team for a full-time 18-month Veterinary Ophthalmology Internship position beginning June or July 2024.
About the role
This 18-month full time internship offers an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, hardworking, experienced and professional individual to work and learn in a busy and friendly referral ophthalmology team.
The successful candidate is expected to work 4 days per week and occasional overtime. Interns participate in consultations, minor surgeries and procedures, surgery setups, anaesthesia and monitoring, inpatient treatments, patient discharge, preparing patients for surgeries, postoperative recovery and client communication. Mentorship will be provided by our friendly team of ophthalmologists and you will be expected to engage in self-directed learning such as attending continuing development lectures and independent reading of core texts and journals. During the course of the internship, at least one paper is expected to be written and submitted for publication into a suitable peer reviewed journal.
About you
Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration in Queensland, possess excellent communication skills, and have a strong work ethic. We have a very positive work based culture and candidates must have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
A strong interest in veterinary ophthalmology is essential, and preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated experience and knowledge in the discipline. For example peer reviewed publications, post graduate veterinary ophthalmology courses and continuing education events, and recognised postgraduate qualifications.
Candidates with at least 3 years of clinical experience will be preferred.
What AES offers
We are a very busy practice with a high surgical caseload and provide gold standard specialist ophthalmology practice in a well equipped and a positive working environment. On the job training and support will be provided in general ophthalmic examination and minor surgical procedures. Remuneration is above award and includes paid attendance to one ophthalmology conference and a personal laptop. We highly value work-life balance and consequently we have no on-call roster, finish on time most days and the occasional overtime (for example for emergency surgeries) includes bonus pay.

Advantage Equine is a 7-veterinarian ambulatory racetrack practice based in Flemington and Cranbourne, Australia that has a large caseload of elite race and performance horses. The practice includes a registered specialist in equine surgery, a member of the ANZCVSs in Equine Medicine, an internationally certified veterinary acupuncturist and over 80 years' experience in racetrack practice. Advantage Equine services its clients with the latest advancements in veterinary care, provided ethically with the horse's welfare in mind.
The successful applicant will receive extensive experience in the daily management of the equine athlete and in veterinary management of large racing stables. Applicants will be involved with supervised and first-opinion consultations, with the level of supervision dependent on the development of skills and confidence. Exposure to lameness examinations, pre-purchase examinations (including yearling sales), international quarantine, digital radiography, ultrasonography, telemetric ECG, overground endoscopy, resting endoscopy, and lower airway diagnostics are commonplace in this practice. Exposure to referral imaging and surgical consultations at other sites, and their post-operative management will be a component of the internship. Further internship rotations with specialists in Equine Medicine and Anaesthesia are available if elected. This position will suit an applicant who is enthusiastic and motivated to develop into a proficient racetrack and performance horse veterinarian. Salary Package $70-100k.

- Receive direct clinical supervision from a team comprising two ECVS Diplomates, one ACVS Diplomate, one FANZCVS, two ECVS eligible registrars and one ECVS resident (2nd year).
- Gain comprehensive exposure and training across orthopaedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgery disciplines.
- Participate in after-hours emergency surgery rotations, enhancing skills in critical care and immediate patient intervention.

The Role:

EQUINE INTERNSHIP WITH MIXED ANIMAL (25%) COMPONENT: 3 POSITIONS
WestVETS Animal Hospitals, Anstead and Marburg, Queensland
WestVETS Equine Hospital is offering an internship starting in June/July/August 2024; the internship can either be a 6 or 12 month in length. This is a rotating internship focusing on developing recent graduates into well-rounded equine clinicians with the ability to retain and build upon small animal skills. This is a unique internship that is hard to match, the intern will gain a broad range of clinical skills to prepare them for whichever road they choose to take as a veterinarian. Our practice emphasizes a team approach to cases and interns will have strong mentorship from all of the veterinarians in the practice.
WestVETS Animal Hospitals are ideally located in South East Queensland. We are 30 minutes to downtown Brisbane, 1 hour to the Gold Coast and 1.5 hours to the Sunshine Coast.
The Equine Hospital caseload has a good variety of cases; colics (both surgical and medical), ophthalmology (ulcers, conjunctival grafts, stromal abscesses), neonates (septic and dummy foals), orthopaedic (arthroscopy, fracture repair, arthrodesis), soft tissue surgery (laparoscopy, upper airway) wounds and medical cases (liver disease, weight loss, diarrhea etc). The clinicians also see a high number of lameness cases (fully equipped with a lameness locator) and prepurchase exams. We also have a very high caseload of routine calls such as dentals including dental extractions and run a very busy routine and emergency ambulatory service. The Equine Reproduction Centre is located at Marburg, interns are able to gain some exposure to the assisted reproduction such as artificial insemination, embryo transfer and stallion collection. Interns have exposure to a wide variety of patients including racehorses to companion ponies to Olympic calibre athletes. There is also a moderate caseload of camelids, small ruminants and cattle that are seen both in the hospital and on the road. Graduate veterinarians will be confident to walk into any equine or mixed practice with a solid start to their careers.

The intern will have exposure to first opinion small animal consults such as vaccinations, snake bites/rat bait/tick cases, desexing, wounds and general medicine cases. Both the Equine Hospital and Reproduction Unit have a small animal clinic associated with it; the amount of small animal exposure can be tailored to each individual intern.

The Internship Program
As a Medicine Intern at ARH, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside our experienced specialists and gain hands-on experience. This intensive internship program will expose you to diverse cases, including emergency medicine, critical care, neurology, surgery, and more.
Under the guidance of our specialists, you will be actively involved in patient care, diagnostics, treatment planning, and client communication. The Opportunity:
WAVES Dermatology is looking for an enthusiastic veterinarian with at least one year of experience in general practice or referral hospital to join our Dermatology team for a one-year (12 months) internship. This is a great opportunity for motivated Veterinarians with an interest in pursuing further training in veterinary dermatology.
The position is full-time and involves a four-day working week. There are no afterhours nor weekend work.
The main aim of this position is to provide the successful candidate with exposure and learning in the wonderful specialty of veterinary dermatology through working closely with the veterinary dermatologist and current 2nd year resident.

Your New Role
The department-specific Internships will enable the successful applicants to advance their knowledge and gain skills in key aspects of the veterinary industry in a modern, world class facility.
You will work a flexible roster based on the needs of the Department, but essentially it is a day shift roster Monday to Friday. Working under supervision, there will be the opportunity to engage directly and frequently with the Surgeons and other departmental specialists. Journal reviews and the writing of papers will be encouraged and supported as part of further learning. Suitable for a Vet in the early stages of their career seeking to develop their knowledge and skills in Surgery.

Our Location
Chandlers Hill Vet is in Happy Valley, a leafy suburb in the southern hills of Adelaide. We are just half an hour from the McLaren Vale Wine region to the south and the City in the north. The beach and Marion Shopping centre are 15-20 minutes’ drive away.
Our Practice
Chandlers Hill Vet is a small animal clinic with very good standing in the local area. We have recently renovated and extended the premises for a spacious, modern feel. We have 3 consult rooms, separate cat waiting area, large dog ward, separated from the cat ward. We have a dedicated imaging room, sterile surgery and non-sterile treatment room. There is a large veterinary office and nurse station, well situated in the centre of operations.
We have Ezyvet software and are soon to implement the Vet Radar electronic whiteboard system. We have Idexx blood and urine machines in a dedicated lab area , digital dental xray (Sopro), digital general xray and ultrasound. We regularly use The Austin as mobile ultrasound specialists.

We have a team of 4 vets with 3 vets working each day and a large nursing team who provide great support, including assisting in the consult rooms so that vet recommendations are followed through, as well as helping with animal holding, updating records and billing during the consult.

Exciting Opportunity for Recent Graduates in Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Medicine!
Unlock your potential by joining our ECC Graduate Development Program at AEC Woolloongabba. We are seeking recent graduates (12 months post-graduation) to embark on a full-time, intensive, 1-year program dedicated to fostering excellence in emergency and critical care medicine and surgery.
During this program, you will receive comprehensive supervision from qualified and experienced emergency and veterinarians. Our structured approach includes clinical duties, didactic teaching, practical classes, and training in related disciplines. Moreover, you will have the unique opportunity to delve into clinical research, scientific presentation, and scientific manuscript preparation.
As part of the program, you'll work 64 hours per fortnight on a rotating roster, with direct supervision from seasoned Emergency Vets. Additionally, you'll have 12 hours of paid education per fortnight to engage in the following activities:

- Participation in shadow shifts to learn hospital shift management
- Attendance at bi-monthly MnM rounds
