About the Role:
We are currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Practice Manager/Veterinary Nurse to join our team on a full-time capacity. Reporting to the Head Veterinarian and General Manager, this role collaborates closely with our passionate staff and volunteers to provide outstanding wildlife care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing daily operations to ensure the efficient and seamless functioning of the Port Stephens Koala hospital.
- Ensure at all times best practice adherence to Department of Planning and Environment, Department of Primary Industry, and NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board Licence conditions.
- Facilitating exceptional animal care, conservation efforts, research and education.
- Working under the direction of the veterinarian on all animal treatment and care matters including medical procedures and surgeries.

WAVES is home to a number of specialty referral services including Emergency and Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Anaesthesia and Diagnostic Imaging. Our team consists of friendly, dedicated, empathetic, compassionate and highly knowledgeable veterinarians, nurses, and support staff who work together in a supportive partnership with the pet's general practitioner to deliver the highest standard of care possible for the pets in Perth.
Are you a compassionate leader with exceptional people skills? We are seeking a highly motivated Practice Manager who shares our passion for animal care and excels at building strong relationships with both our team and clients. In this role, you will oversee the operations of our 24-hour Emergency and Critical Care Department, ensuring outstanding patient care and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Foster a positive and supportive work environment, leading a diverse team of veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and support staff.
- Cultivate strong relationships with team members, encouraging collaboration, professional growth, and a shared dedication to delivering exceptional care.
- Develop and implement wellness strategies and engagement initiatives to promote happiness, empathy and resilience in the workplace
- Collaborate with individuals and the team to achieve outcomes that enhance the well-being of our staff and contribute to a positive work culture
- Create and implement policies and procedures that prioritise patient well-being and enhance client experiences.
- Thoughtfully manage the department's budget, balancing revenue generation and cost control to ensure long-term success.
- Collaborate with the management team to envision and execute strategic plans for the hospital's growth and advancement.
- Provide exceptional customer service by empathetically addressing client inquiries, concerns, and feedback, creating a welcoming and caring atmosphere.
- Foster partnerships with referring veterinarians and other stakeholders, nurturing a strong network within the veterinary community.
Qualifications:
- Possess qualifications in business management, veterinary management, HR or a related discipline.
- Demonstrate proven leadership experience in a veterinary hospital or similar healthcare setting.
- Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to connect and build meaningful relationships with clients, staff, and stakeholders.
- Showcase exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset that anticipates future needs and plans accordingly.
- Display adeptness at managing a diverse team, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a positive work culture.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and best practices is advantageous.
- Familiarity with medical billing and record-keeping systems is also advantageous.
- Exude a genuine passion for animal care and a strong commitment to delivering exceptional service.
