KOO WEE RUP, GIPPSLAND - MIXED New Graduates welcome

15 years ago, as a bright-eyed new graduate, I turned up for my 1st day of work as a Veterinary Surgeon full of the excitement and trepidation that I am sure we all feel. I was issued with a set of keys, a car, a roster and thrust into a consulting room with a waiting room full of clients.  That was where the support given started and ended.

There were 4 vets in the clinic including myself, two of us were week one new graduates, one was a more experienced vet whose wife had just had their first baby and the clinic owner who was rarely seen other than to head to the office to take another handful of prescription pain killers for which he had an unhealthy addiction.  The atmosphere was tense and there was an ethos of get your head down, do your job, and do not speak about it.

I could regale you with stories such as the time I had to carry out my 1st GDV surgery which was out of hours with only a junior nurse and a few disgruntled words of advice over the phone for assistance, but I think you get the idea. Needless to say, I only lasted six months and with a huge amount of guilt for the now new, new graduate that I left behind I handed in my notice and moved on promising that if I ever had the opportunity, I would never let this happen to anyone else.

Please click here to see photos! photos

We all started in Veterinary science with a common goal to be the best patient advocate that we can.  Some say it is to be the voice of the animal, but it is more than that.  As veterinary surgeons we need to not only ensure that any immediate health issues are resolved but that the animals within our community are given every chance to maintain that health for as long as possible by looking beyond the immediate and planning for the future. The pets and animals that we treat on a daily basis provide a significant role in the health, enjoyment, and financial income for their human counterparts and we have to listen to and understand what they are telling us as well as the animal.

What does all this mean for you? Well 5 years ago, myself and my husband purchased Station Street Veterinary Clinic and have made it our goal first and foremost to provide a workplace that is supportive and inspires people to be the best version of themselves that they can.  From this we have built the most amazing foundation from which to provide the absolute best animal advocacy, married up with a fantastic customer experience. The success of this is reflected in our high average transaction value and a net promotor score of 90 percent! We are always seeking to expand on what we do and encourage all forms of development, be it improving processes, technological innovation, or professional advancement.

Job Highlights:

For the new graduate veterinary surgeon:

Located in the peri-urban town of Koo Wee Rup, Station Street Veterinary Clinic allows you to live an urban, semi-urban or fully rural lifestyle.  It is an ideal location to support your hobbies and interests outside of work with beautiful beaches, Melbourne’s iconic CBD, ski fields and mountains all close by.

We would welcome you to come and visit us and would love the opportunity to show you around.  To arrange a visit or if you would like to discuss the position further then call us on 03 5997 2222, or email your CV to Dr Sophie Elphick BVSc, MANZCVS (Equine Medicine) at admin@stationstreetvet.com.au.

HAMILTON, SOUTH WEST VICTORIA - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Kickstart your veterinary career with us at Cox St Vets, Hamilton

Are you about to graduate as a vet?
But not sure where you want to take your career?
It’s time to kickstart your veterinary career with us…like Dr Sally did!

Sally has worked with us at Cox Street Vets since graduating 3 years ago.
And she has just resigned!
AND we couldn’t be prouder!
She’s accepted her dream job of a Wildlife and Research Residency based at a Zoo Veterinary Department.

Why are we so proud (and so excited about our valued vet leaving)?

It’s because at Cox St Vets we have been able to support and develop her in a way that has set her up for this opportunity.  The combination of her initiative and passion to go after these opportunities, with us as her workplace to support her, is incredible.

Opportunities like volunteering with the South-Eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo Annual Count. The chance to work with the Eastern Barred Bandicoot population in the community parklands. Working with our local carers on a variety of injured bird and wildlife cases.

Here’s what Sally has to say…

"During my time at Cox Street, I have been very well supported both during and after hours and have always been encouraged to follow my interests. I have loved the varied case load and being a part of this team."

Now don’t get me wrong! We are first and foremost a companion animal clinic.

Working with us does not mean a career in wildlife.

What it does mean is a supportive and team focused work environment, where you get to hone your companion animal veterinary skills, and we help you follow your dreams – whatever they may be.

So if you are finishing up at uni, or maybe you have been working somewhere for a while and are looking for a change and would embrace this supportive environment in a predominantly companion animal role, please contact Dr Leisa Denaro (leisa.denaro@apiam.com.au). We can’t wait to see what we can help you achieve!

Added bonus - we are in a very beautiful part of the world. You too could start your day with a sunrise like this (see photos)!

WARRNAMBOOL, SOUTH-WEST COAST - SMALL ANIMAL POSITION IN MIXED PRACTICE

Are you looking to escape the city for a more relaxed lifestyle, but are worried you will have to sacrifice your standards of patient care?

At Warrnambool Veterinary, we pride ourselves on our ability to provide high standards of veterinary medicine, because we know that practicing rurally doesn’t mean compromising on patient care.

The Clinic:

We are incredibly proud of our companion animal hospital, which is always growing and adapting to new standards of care, and ensuring we have all of the diagnostic tools a regional clinic could dream of, including digital Xray, dental Xray, ultrasound, endoscope, istat blood gas machines, coagulation, faecal and cytology analysers, CBC/Biochem blood machine and anaesthetic monitoring equipment including blood pressure and ECG.

We have a high case load of both routine and non-routine surgeries and have all the equipment required to perform fracture repairs, TTAs and TPLOs.

For those more difficult cases that require specialist referral or CT imaging, not only are we 2.5hrs from the closest referral hospital, and we are fortunate enough to have a specialist surgeon visit our clinic fortnightly to assist with managing cases locally.

Our Team:

Our family of 50-ish staff enjoy plenty of socialisation, especially with Victoria finally opening up again.

Having fun while delivering a professional and valuable service to our clients is a huge priority, but we also prioritise a work-life balance, and working overtime and beyond clinic hours is not common practice at our clinic.

We know that the industry is challenging, and we want our staff to love their jobs and enjoy their lifestyle.

While we are passionate about primary case management, we also believe that working as a team is the best way to provide patient care, and as a result, you will always have support to manage cases should you need it.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Our Ideal Applicant:

Ideally, we would like an experienced companion animal veterinarian with an interest in surgery.

If you have skills (or a strong interest in further development) in orthopaedic surgery and would like to further develop and expand our orthopaedic service, we will support your continuing education to help further develop your skills – both via external courses and internal access to experienced senior vets.

The Role:

Our Town:

Warrnambool is located at the end of the Great Ocean Road, in one of Australia’s most scenic coastal regions.

It has the feel of a big country town but offers all the services and facilities you could hope for, including good schools, a university campus, plenty of sporting and community groups and lots of lovely cafes, bars, and restaurants.

We are only 2 hours from Geelong and 3 hours from Melbourne, so the bright city lights are not far away.

Our team is built on the core values of COLLABORATION, LEADERSHIP, INTEGRITY, ENJOYMENT and DELIVER VALUE. If this seems like the sort of environment you could thrive in, please contact the Apiam People & Culture team at recruitment@apiam.com.au.

To speak to one of our vets, please contact Dr Glenn Cuzens Ph 0428 886 063.

Geelong has all facilities for family life including excellent education options.

The BVC is a three- vet practice boasting significant experience. We are proud of the tenure of our veterinarians with our current “new grad” recently advising us that it is her 7 year anniversary! We have a strong support team with 6 nurses and full client relations cover across the week.

We have recognised a significant opportunity to offer support and mentoring to a new graduate in 2022. One of our veterinarians will be on a leave-of-absence for 6-12 months from May and this position will therefore allow our new vet to be fully supported by all three vets from January until then.

An experienced applicant will also be made welcome and given appropriate support and induction.

The BVC are proud of their role in general practice, offering a wide caseload of preventative and therapeutic/surgical services. We have strong in-house medical and surgical skills and appropriate facilities. We can refer cases when needed but have excellent relationships with visiting specialists and consultants which allows us to manage most of our caseload at the BVC.

We are gold standard certified in Cat Friendly practice and advocate Fear Free pet care.

Your medical knowledge and skills are important to us but so too is your ability to effectively communicate with clients, team-members and patients.

We encourage the development of special interests in your veterinary career (eg: behaviour, orthopaedics, rabbits, birds) and will support you to the best of our ability.

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the relevant award and include 1 week CPD (COVID permitting!) and 4 weeks annual leave.

Wages will be paid above award, and commensurate with experience.

Our vets work a 38 hour week with one weekend in 3 in-clinic. This weekend is followed by a 4 day week.

Shifts rotate through the opening hours which are:

7.30am-8pm Mon-Friday,

GOULBURN VALLEY, SHEPPARTON - MIXED OR SMALL ANIMAL - EXPERIENCED OR NEW GRAD New Graduates welcome

Small or Mixed Animal Vet Opportunity

GV Vets are looking for a full-time associate vet to join our team in Shepparton. If you're interested in joining a great group of people, in a family owned and operated clinic, please read on.

A few words to describe the values we consider important at GV Vets: Work-life balance, kindness, laughter, family, compassion, massages at work, exceptional service, professionalism, supportive, home baked treats in the tearoom.

We are proud to be Shepparton’s only locally owned and operated clinic, we are advertising for an additional vet for a couple of reasons, one being there's something in the water here and two of our legendary veterinary team have fallen pregnant.  The other being that we are renovating our cottage style clinic to grow and improve our hospital and consulting space.

Our renovation plans include a dedicated cat waiting area, a dental treatment room, a comfortable grieving/euthanasia space as well as an upstairs staff area with spaces for nursing mothers and maybe even a nap at lunchtime when required.  We tried to convince the boss to give us a rooftop bar, but we couldn't quite get it through on the final plans.

Please click here to see photos! photos

The ideal candidate has a primary focus on small animals and while mixed practice skills would be amazing (particularly cattle) they’re not necessary for you to apply.  Experienced vets and new graduates will both be considered for the role.  We’re looking for veterinary skills that come with a sense of humour and a great teamwork mindset. Our clinic is busy, but there’s plenty of support available with 9 vets (7 FTE) and 20 support staff, including 10 Cert IV Vet Nurses.  Our clinic has all the standard equipment expected of a modern general practice and many of the extra ‘toys’ to allow us to perform a comprehensive in-house work up with efficiency and offer best practice medicine: a combination of IDEXX & Abaxis in-house blood, coagulation, urinalysis & sedivue machines; imaging – portable ultrasound, digital touchscreen radiography, iM3 dental radiography; video otoscope & flexible endoscopes; TonoVet tonometer, electrocautery and separate surgery & dental / procedures rooms allowing dual anaesthetics each with dedicated patient warming and monitoring machines, large animal equipment including bull testing, pregnancy ultrasound, in-house milk culture and blood testing.

We aim for flexibility to find a roster that works for both you and the clinic, for example full time vets can work a four-day week with one regular weekday RDO or shorter shifts of five days a week.  We share the weekend and after-hours roster between everyone whilst also providing backup to support you for cases that fall outside of a particular vet's comfort zone. We strongly support continuing education and encourage vets to find and expand their areas of interest with further study, webinars, conferences and clinical practice.

Shepparton is a fantastic place to live, with all the shops, amenities and conveniences of a major regional centre with the luxury of space and country-feel farmland all around. We have a diverse, multicultural, proud and progressive community with fantastic schools and health services. There are many great sporting and cultural opportunities, superb restaurants and cafes, we are close to the river if you're into boating, camping or fishing, there’s great hiking trails and we are close to the ski fields if you like damaging your knees.  Going to Melbourne for a gig or footy match or festival is within 2 hours drive.

Comprehensive salary package on offer to the right candidate, including base salary, superannuation, continuing education, after-hours, registrations, memberships and bonus scheme.

Our new and large purpose built hospital offers all the equipment and facilities to practice excellent quality veterinary medicine and surgery with friendly and supportive nursing staff. Digital x-ray, ultrasound with colour doppler, pulse oximetry, in-house laboratory and cytology, infusion pumps, oxygen generators and orthopaedic instrumentation are components of our practice. The practice has a busy medical and surgical caseload, mainly small animal (85%) and equine (10%), but does include avian and wildlife work in addition to the expected other species of cattle, sheep and pigs. The building now includes six consulting rooms and three operating theatres.

The equine facility consists of a large shed with undercover stabling, two horse crushes, equine scales, and a knock down and recovery room. Seven holding paddocks are available for equine work brought to the clinic. Equine specific x-ray, dental work with power float, artificial insemination during the stud season, and routine tendon ultrasounds are components of the practice. This is in addition to the expected colics, geldings, lameness work ups, stitch ups and laboratory blood work.

The clinic has nine full time and four part time nursing and support staff. The Practice is an Academic Associate Practice with the University of Melbourne, and in addition has veterinary students seeing practice from international veterinary schools as well as the other Universities in Australia.

So, if a rural mixed practice with a wonderfully varied caseload, and strong support staff appeals, then we would welcome your application. There is a strong emphasis on discussion of cases between colleagues at rounds each day, and we are a practice used to supporting new graduates as they embark on their careers. Bi-monthly webinars, practice membership of CVE, and each veterinarian provided with VIN membership gives all colleagues opportunities to continue to enhance their skills and knowledge. We expect veterinarians to embrace new challenges as experience dictates.

Plans of the building and discussion of our practice can be found at our website www.benetookvet.com.au

Extensive dry land farming of wheat, sheep and cattle in outback NSW is on your doorstep. Mildura is well serviced by three airlines with a dozen flights each day to and from Melbourne. Flight time is just one hour.

Enthusiastic new graduates or experienced colleagues would be welcome to apply.

New graduate salary is $65,000 plus after hours and superannuation. The salary for experienced colleagues will be commensurate with experience. After hours duty is shared equally with all veterinary surgeons, with a 4 day rostered weekend off each duty cycle. Normal hours of work averages 38 hours per week.

BAIRNSDALE, GIPPSLAND - MIXED New Graduates welcomeNew Position

Yep, we are yet another mixed practice, looking for yet another mixed or smallies vet for yet another permanent or part time role to join our amazing, wonderful, beautiful team. We would consider a pair of vets (I know, these are rare as hens teeth) and partnership is an option for the right candidate.

Who are we?

Eastwood Vets – we are the new kid on the block down in Bairnsdale, Victoria. We are small, but we are mighty. We are growing rapidly (the clinic and our families) and are looking for a vet, experienced or new grad, to join our team.

We could tell you all the generic stuff about our clinic, and it’s all good stuff to know but it’s all the same (purpose-built clinic, 7 amazing and qualified nurses, modern equipment, compassionate quality vet care, yadda yadda yadda, you’ve heard it all before). What we’d rather do is tell you about what makes us different, better even, than all these other mixed practice job adds you’ve been browsing.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Where are we

Eastwood, in Bairnsdale…… Google it…. The Travel Victoria website will tell you everything you need to know about this amazing region that you could learn to call home. There’s lots of stuff here… All the things you need (hospitals, schools, shopping etc), plus there is lots of fun stuff too (snowfields, beaches, the iconic Gippsland Lakes, all within stone throw from the clinic).

Sensible stuff you probably do need to know:

Currently, we have a mixture of four vets working through the clinic, two full time. Position would involve afterhours contribution one weekend a month and one night a week. Pay and all other conditions are negotiable and above award (for an experienced vet equivalent of $150K per anaum for PFT plus after hours), after hours contribution is not. Very comfortable accommodation is available for any interested applicant during afterhours and initial commencement of employment while you fall in love with us.

Please email applications or call the clinic and speak to Meg.

ORBOST, FAR EAST GIPPSLAND - MIXED PRACTICE New Graduates welcome

Full Time or Part Time Mixed Animal Practitioner.

Snowy River Vet Clinic strives to provide high quality veterinary care for our clients and to their animals.

About Us.

Located in Orbost on the eastern side of Victoria and just 15km from the coast, we service a large area of beautiful countryside which also boasts magnificent natural attributes from the coast to the high country waiting for you to explore and enjoy.

We are a team of 2 vets looking to move to 2 ½ to 3 vets.

The practice has a diverse caseload including pets, dairy, beef and a smattering of equine, wildlife, and everything else on the Noah’s Ark spectrum. A wide range of small animal surgeries are undertaken for clients who decline referral to a specialist, while bovine work includes outreach trips into the Victorian High Country.  If you want a chance to put into practice ALL your vet skills, and are always ready for something new, you will thrive in this practice.

The clinic building was renovated throughout in 2016 and is a comfortable work environment. The clinic has a wide range of equipment to enable you to provide the best possible care and treatment for our clients' animals. Digital X ray, Dental X ray, In house blood test machines, large and small animal ultrasound, equine dental equipment, orthopaedic and general surgical equipment, Lane Bull testing equipment etc etc.

Please click here to see photos! photos

While we are no longer hosting vet students due to time constraints, our small clinic became the no.1 mixed practice of choice of vet students at Melbourne University on placement for many years. This speaks for the incredibly supportive and encouraging ethic that this clinic extends to its staff, and everyone associated with its work.

We encourage those considering this position to speak to current (and past) employees of the practice.

About You.

We are looking for either a full time or part time mixed animal practitioner to join our team of two vets.

Our ideal candidate will

About The Job.

Our clinic workload is 30% large animal (primarily dairy and beef), and 70% companion animals. The mix worked can be varied to suit the strengths and preferences of the individual vet.  We work in with the strengths and weaknesses of our team members, trying as much as possible to line up work that suits the individual.

We are flexible with the number of days worked per week to fit in with the successful applicant’s needs. Pay is for hours worked, not a fixed salary. Pay rate is negotiable depending on experience.

The normal clinic hours are 9 – 5 Monday to Friday and 9 – 12 Saturday. Weekends and after hours are generally not very busy and are shared amongst the team. There is a generous after-hours fee sharing structure in place to compensate.

Continuing education is encouraged and there is a scheme for the clinic to contribute towards costs of approved courses. The clinic pays VSB fees and AVA membership.

About The Area.

Orbost is on the National Highway 1, 4.5 hours east of Melbourne and 4 hours south of Canberra. It is on the Snowy River Floodplain, a virtual island of super fertile farming land, surrounded by forest to the west, north and east, and the ocean to the south. The small coastal town of Marlo is 10 minutes drive away. For anyone who loves an outdoor lifestyle, it is an incredible place to live with an extraordinary range of landscapes close by.

Orbost is a welcoming community with an increasingly diverse population as this largely unknown gem is gradually discovered by tree – and sea changers. The town has its own hospital, high school, and several primary schools; it is well connected to Melbourne by coach / train services and has many sporting clubs and associations. The current ‘undiscovered’ status of the area means house and land real estate is very competitively priced.

STRATHFIELDSAYE, BENDIGO - SMALL ANIMAL IN MIXED PRACTICE New Graduates welcome

Before I dive into the specifics of this veterinary role and our wonderful practice, I wanted to share some insights into what sustains me – why I come to work each day energised and go home fulfilled - because I feel strongly that we should be on the same page, before we get into the details.

7 years ago, I had a revelation. I sat back and asked myself, ‘What matters to me now, and what will satisfy me in practice in 10 or 20 years time?

Do these things matter to you – now, and into the future?

If so, then we’re a wonderful fit and I’d love to meet you.

BALLARAT, CENTRAL HIGHLANDS, VIC - AMBULATORY & RACETRACK

Compassion   |   Respect   |  Professionalism  |  Teamwork

The Ballarat Veterinary Practice Equine clinic is a 12-vet practice based on the edge of the Ballarat Turf Club Racing & Training Centre, where 550 horses are trained and 25 race meetings are held each year. There is also a large standardbred population, with 40 meetings held per year at the local harness track. The clinic provides a hospital based surgical and imaging referral service, and is the base for the ambulatory services provided to the racetrack & general equine clients in the surrounding district.

The hospital also has an internship program with four interns currently employed. The practice conducts regular visits to neighbouring racing regions and has a satellite five-vet equine clinic based in Warrnambool.

The position available is for a member of the racetrack and ambulatory team, which provides service to all breeds of horses from thoroughbreds, standardbreds and sport horses, through to pleasure horses and ponies in the district.

As well as racing stable work, typical general practice equine work is also undertaken including lameness assessment, dentistry, lacerations, reproductive work including ultrasound scanning, field colic assessment and all general veterinary equine work. Due to the size of the practice and level of experience there is strong support for our ambulatory veterinarians at all times.

The practice has three surgeons (two specialist and one ACVS residency trained) available for consultation and assistance with referral of cases.  The clinic has full surgical facilities, ultrasound, digital radiography, endoscopy, scintigraphy and standing MRI facilities and the ability to house up to 28 horses.

Successful applicants should be graduates with at least two years' experience, preferably in a similar role.

Weekend after hours responsibility is shared equally between members of the ambulatory team with the normal rotation being one weekend every four weeks. Duties will involve all ambulatory services as outlined above and also attending both thoroughbred and harness race meetings as the official veterinarian.

Remuneration is dependent on experience; however the base salary range is $80,000 - $100,000. In addition, superannuation, after hours commissions, a car and phone for business and reasonable personal use are included. Also included is Australian Veterinary Association membership and an annual Continuing Education stipend of $2,000 per annum. We support and encourage applicants to pursue certificate and membership qualifications. We also assist with visa applications and relocation logistics.

Ballarat is a thriving regional city, rich in history and culture.  It is the perfect place to settle with all of the convenience of city life, but with postcard-perfect scenic beauty, and less hustle and bustle than Melbourne - while still only being an hour and a half drive from all Melbourne has to offer.  With highly sought after private schools, and excellent health care, Victoria's largest inland city has everything you need.  For more insight about life in Ballarat, please click https://youtu.be/BP3ml8sEUBg

Interested applicants should forward a resume and covering letter which includes the names of three referees to the attention of Dr. Andrew Cust at careers@bvp.com.au

GEELONG, SOUTH-WEST MELBOURNE - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Full or Part time Veterinarian – North Geelong Veterinary Clinic

We are looking for either a full or part time Veterinarian to join our growing team. Full time would be the preference.

The position can be anything from two to four days per week, including Saturdays on a rotating basis. Our full-time vets are rostered for 36 hours a week across 4 weekdays (this includes a one hour lunch break). Saturdays are approximately one in three and the week before a Saturday shift is a three-day work week. We feel this schedule truly allows our veterinarians to actively pursue interests outside of work.

The position would have 4 weeks annual leave and 1-week study leave. We also greatly encourage and will help fund further education. License fees and professional memberships paid.

The clinic is open 8:00am – 7:00pm Monday – Friday and Saturdays 8:00 am – 3:00pm. We have 30 minute appointments to allow ample time for work up and completion of records. We are not open after hours, for on call work, or public holidays, meaning more time for you to explore the area and spend time with family and friends. As mentioned above, we value having a work life balance and being able to provide the same for our staff.

The North Geelong Veterinary Clinic has been renovated and is fully equipped with digital x-ray, dental x-ray (in a dedicated dental suite), surgivet anaesthetic monitoring, ultrasound and in house IDEXX pathology. We use RX works as our software.

Pay rate would be above award and commensurate with experience. We would prefer a candidate with at least two years’ experience, but we are open to the idea of an enthusiastic new graduate. Most importantly, we are looking for someone that fits in with our close-knit team placing a premium on communication skills with both clients and staff.

LOCATION
Geelong is ideally situated an hour from Melbourne and within close proximity to the beautiful Surf Coast. It is a great area for outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle.
