A vet who is passionate and genuinely likes helping people and their pets to achieve the best outcome.

Team Member Testimonial.
Working at WQVH has been everything I hoped for in my New Graduate job. Whilst being busy and challenged (during the very challenging year of 2020!), I have been supported every step of the way both personally and in my professional development. The hours are very fair and the salary is rewarding. Additionally, I have been able to manage a great work life balance this year, which is not something many Veterinarians can say! As a team, we believe in evidence-based learning and providing exceptional care. We fulfil this ethos by regularly updating our equipment and facilities and having regular staff meetings to improve our protocols. I know I will continue to grow as a Veterinarian and as a person at this practice. WQVH is not just a vet clinic but a fun, supportive community who care tremendously about clients, their pets and anything else that comes through the doors. I would choose WQVH ten times over and recommend it to any new graduate or experienced vet.

QUEANBEYAN, SOUTH-EASTERN REGION - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Hi vets! Queanbeyan Veterinary Hospital is looking for a new vet to join our team – perhaps, a budding surgeon!?

Are you interested in progressing your surgical skills? QVH is a small animal practice with ten vets – working mixtures of part-time and full-time. We would be very happy to find an enthusiastic generalist. However, there is also a great opportunity for a candidate interested in more advanced surgical training. One of our partners, Louise, is a special interest surgeon with a high GP surgical caseload. Over the years she has mentored a number of vets, some of whom have gone on to do their memberships. We would welcome any applicants who are keen to pursue an interest in surgery and wanting to get involved with our surgical cases. There is also potential for special mentoring in behaviour and ultrasound.

Why Queanbeyan? We are a fantastic, friendly, and inclusive practice. Our clientele are generally lovely, and usually keen to fully work up cases, so you can practice medicine to a satisfyingly high standard. As part of the Capital Paws Group we have access to a wide network of vets with different special interest areas who are always keen to help. We have sonographers, surgeons, behaviourists, dentists and medicine gurus, a rehabilitation vet and reptile enthusiasts, among others. Whatever your question or interest there is someone to talk to. We have regular social and continuing education catch ups, and the level of collegiality is second to none. Our group is encouraging and supportive of continuing education, and skills development. If you're interested, we would love you to get involved with the group's animal health programmes in indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.

The Capital Paws partners are local vets who work in our hospitals and are dedicated to work life balance for everyone. The practices are extremely family friendly. We are open on Saturday mornings, but the rest of the weekend is our own. On our normal full-time roster we all have a regular weekday off. Management is really flexible though, if you have only specific hours you can work, please get in touch and discuss it with us.

Please click here to see photos! photos

What about the bells and whistles? Our clinics are delightfully well equipped with in house DR radiography, dental radiography, a great ultrasound machine (and in-house sonographer) and tonometry as some of our many handy tools.

What about the after hours? No after hours! We're so lucky in Canberra to have two emergency centres at night time and on the weekends, and the specialist centre just down the road from us. Out of hours, knowing our patients are in good hands.

Why the Canberra region? Canberra is honestly an undiscovered gem of a place to live. There is so much culture and beautiful outdoor space. As the capital, and home of all the embassies, the vibe is much more cosmopolitan than you might expect for a city of this size. We are convenient to the mountains and South Coast, and it is honestly so easy to dash to other places, such as Sydney, for a visit. The climate is beautiful and the air is fresh. You can get anywhere in town in under an hour! Coming with a family? This is an excellent city to raise kids, there are so many things to do (and if you join us, you're welcome to ask me about them!) Coming as a new grad? This is a lively city full of young professionals.

Who should apply? If you are a small animal vet with a love of providing high quality care, and this ad speaks to you, we would love to hear from you. Whether you are a new grad or an experienced hand, I am sure you will appreciate our warm and supportive environment. And remember, an interest in surgery could lead to a great career opportunity.

We are committed to providing support and mentoring for our new grads, and generally being an encouraging team for all staff across the group.

Want to know more? Please send any questions or applications to Louise Nicholls (louisen@queanbeyanvet.com.au) and Bill Taylor (billt@queanbeyanvet.com.au). As we are always busy, probably best to copy us both in!

Queanbeyan Veterinary Hospital, 94 Yass Rd, Queanbeyan. 02 6299 2509.
