OUR STORY

Hello, Kylie here!

I am a full time mum to 3 beautiful girls (aged 7, 5 and 2), part time vet, full time practice owner… and for funsies (and destressing!) I have started my own hobby business on the side.

I have worked at a number of small animal clinics, and was never quite satisfied…

I wanted more!

I wanted to feel I was giving 100% care and support to my clients and patients every time.

I wanted a team I loved and could support, and a team that loved me back and were there to support me too.

Then I met Erica…

Hi, I’m Erica!

I’m not a mum, but I feel like that’s ok for me. I am a full time vet, full time practice owner, a full time sci-fi nerd, and a part time aerialist.

I have always loved my work, even through the ups and downs.

Through working in a few different practices I formed my own view on what I think it means to provide great veterinary care, and what makes a great workplace.

I soon found that Kylie shared my views too!

And so an idea started…

A great friendship turned into a great partnership, so…

In November 2018 we opened the doors to a family owned small animal clinic - North Maclean Family Vet – and haven’t looked back!

OUR CLINIC

As a new clinic, we have all of the usual fantastic modern equipment.

Our clients constantly tell us they love our fresh and clean clinic!

We practice high quality medicine, and will regularly involve in-house specialists in our patient care.

Our mobile cardiologist offers in house workups, preventative screenings and extensive knowledge.

Our mobile internal medicine specialist visits regularly to aid our diagnostic workups, and is always pushing our knowledge and level of care as much as he can! He is a fantastic asset to our team.

Our nursing team is involved in all aspects of our patient care – this includes front of house service, performing nurse consults and team consulting, nursing our in-patients and monitoring our surgical patients and anaesthetics!

We recognise our patients are individuals and treat them as such… our clients really appreciate this!

OUR TEAM

We are a close knit team made up of 3 vets and 5 nurses. Our work family is an extension of our own family. We are supportive of each other whenever possible.

Most importantly, we like to have fun!

Being involved in our local community is really important to us, and we are constantly finding ways that we can give back – we have decided that we will all learn AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) to assist our hearing affected clients.

Sustainability in a world full of many disposables is also important to us, and we all work together to reduce our wastage and recycle wherever we can!

Last year we became involved with B1G1 – we are now regularly involved in giving back to communities/organisations that are important to our team.

We asked our team why they loved working for us, and here is what they said…

“North Maclean Family Vet is an extremely furry friendly and client focused practice. Both Dr Erica and Dr Kylie are exceptional vets with extensive knowledge of clients and patients. I’m so very proud to work here. Every shift is a great shift with plenty of laughs. All the staff are brilliant!”

“I may be biased but it is the best clinic that I have worked in! Also, Dr Kylie and Dr Erica are excellent at hiring the best of the best!”

“I didn’t know it was possible to have work life balance in the veterinary industry until I joined the North Maclean Family Vet team. In my 15+ years in the industry I have never found a clinic to be more in touch with the needs of their clients, patients and very importantly their staff! Joining this team was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I can’t imagine ever working anywhere else.”

“The North Maclean team have done an amazing job at making me feel a part of the team and family. I always look forward to an exciting day at work!”

Do you like the sound of what you are reading so far?
I think it’s time we have a chat!

Applicants must have:

What we are offering:

A love of sci-fi isn’t a necessity, but it wouldn’t go astray! (Erica would love a new friend!)

OUR LOCATION

We are located in a growing region of southern, suburban Brisbane. We are approximately 50 minutes from Brisbane City, 30 minutes from the Gold Coast and the idyllic Tamborine Mountain, 45 minutes from Ipswich Central, or 20 minutes from Browns Plains. We are easily accessed along the Mount Lindesay Highway, making travel to and from the clinic very easy.

North Maclean is a semi-rural and suburban area, with lots of acreage and several new housing developments. Our clinic is situated in the local village hub, which has the convenience of a fantastic, locally renowned fruit shop. The hub also has a butcher, fish & chip takeaway, bottle-o, chemist, doctor’s clinic, and animal produce store, as well as a bakery that does the best coffee and treats south of Brisbane! We are only 10 minutes from Jimboomba, which has a growing shopping and business centre (and lots of lunch options!).

Since purchasing the clinic fourteen years ago, the owners have been successful in growing the practice into one of the most highly respected clinics on the Gold Coast. The clinic is family owned and operated with a belief in placing the patient first by providing the best veterinary care, without the need for 'over servicing' or performance reviews. We work hard to provide an environment in which veterinary nurses can enjoy their work every day.

Having the highest quality veterinary equipment means that diagnostic procedures can be efficient and more enjoyable in the day-to-day routine. Our clinic has a dedicated imaging room with DR x-ray and an advanced ultrasound machine. Our pathology suite is complete with an Idexx Catalyst biochemistry and Procyte haematology machines. Our dental suite consists of two IM3 dental machine with sub-gingival scalers and is complemented by a wall mounted DR dental x-ray. Six consultation rooms, dental room and surgery complemented by multiple prep areas also make for hassle free procedures.

We have an outstanding group of nurses with decades of experience between them. They are highly supportive of our staff and take pride in our clinic. Our nurses all excel in various fields that support primary veterinary care including nutrition and behavioural training.

As the practice continues to grow, we have the opportunity to offer a position for a veterinary nurse. We are looking for an applicant with some experience in the industry, preferably with at least a Cert III veterinary nurse or sound knowledge of the industry. The successful applicant will need to have a friendly and cooperative nature, the ability to work in a fast paced clinic and willing to learn and apply best practice veterinary care. The applicant should possess the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team. This is an opportunity to advance your knowledge and career in a busy small animal clinic in the company of highly skilled veterinary nurses. No after-hours or on-call work is required. All after hours cases are referred to a close by afterhours clinic.

We offer a steady and manageable daily work load with 30 minutes allocated for lunch every day. Shifts are structured with 5 veterinary nurses working at any one time on week days and 4 veterinary nurses on Saturday mornings. This provides excellent peer support for veterinary nurses and enough time to manage the day to day running of the clinic. Pay rate is based on level of experience and suitability to the practice. We are offering a superior pay package, procedures and products at cost and most importantly, a position where you can devote your time and efforts to the best care and outcomes for companion animals.

Have a look on our website to see who we are and what we are all about.

If you are looking for the opportunity to secure long term employment with higher pay as well as a job to enjoy coming to every day, please forward your CV or resume to: office@mermaidvet.com.au

THE VET TECH JOB OPPORTUNITY YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!

Who is My Local Vet?

We are the most progressive, staff-centric, fun, and energetic team you’ll find anywhere and we’re looking for a great vet tech to fill a full-time OR part-time role.

The clinic is beautifully presented, the equipment is comprehensive, and the business model is boutique so we can afford to pay you well.

But by far and away our greatest asset is our people! We’re a small team of six (3 vet techs, 2 Vets and me, the practice manager). We’re all very friendly and down to earth - our Facebook page tells the story: https://www.facebook.com/mylocalvetclinic

We love having fun together in and outside of work. This year we did a three day hike in Girraween National Park, hired a luxury house in Noosa for a weekend getaway, went abseiling in the Glasshouse Mountains, hired a chopper for an afternoon cruising up and down the GC and spent three incredible days sailing aboard this luxury catamaran on Moreton Bay: www.moretonbayholidaysafloat.com/moreton-magic-sailing-catamaran/?fbclid=IwAR0D5m6EOiXnxmB1uPbl1ulKthaZeODdg2x7ucXx9aFb0PKrcybBV1uIe3M

All these activities are paid for by the clinic. Why? Because the practice is privately owned and the boss believes the way to create an award-winning team is by providing unique and exciting opportunities for team mates to bond over shared experiences!

If you can choose where you work, then why wouldn’t you work somewhere seriously awesome?

When you join our team, you will get:

Our techs DO COOL STUFF. After all, it’s what they were trained to do! Intubation, radiology, professional descaling, nurse consultations etc. They're not cleaning cages all day. Far from it, they're engaged in challenging, professionally fulfilling work and at the end of the day they don't have to worry about wiping down benches or doing the floors – they leave that for the cleaners.

We're all about quality: Our standard consultation time is 30 minutes so we can do a thorough job, we have a medicine specialist visit the practice frequently to do ultrasounds and provide advice around case management, we have a surgical specialist that does the same, our equipment includes multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring, bair huggers, IV fluid warmers, electrocautery, suction, im3 dental suite including digital dental radiology, DR survey radiology, tonometry, Procyte and Catalyst One.

Hours for full time: four day working week, one in three Saturdays 8:45 – 12:15pm
Location: Alexandra Hills, Brisbane’s Bayside
Website: mylocalvet.com.au
Start date: ASAP

If you’re excited by the prospect of joining our team of warm and friendly vets and nurses who support each other wholeheartedly then email me and we’ll organise a confidential chat: drcaitlin@mylocalvet.com.au

Old Mill offers you that quaint country charm, whilst ticking all the right boxes for what you'd expect from an inner-city facility. We have 3 spacious consult rooms, a designated isolation ward, wet bench, separate sterile prep bench, a large theatre, huge kennel space, internal and external dog runs, a purpose office space to remove yourself from the floor and a designated staff area that is well removed from client eye. Yep, our clinic is better set out than yours. Add the CR x-ray, mobile ultrasound, iM3 machine, internal laboratory and kitty cottage, suddenly you can see yourself working here, right? I know that we can. Just in case we haven't won you over already, Old Mill comes with a well skilled veterinarian team, and our clinic cat Sharni is probably the cutest thing you'll see all week. We're not even kidding, she is adorable.

Dayboro is only a 30min drive west of the Bruce Highway. Like to listen to audiobooks, or play your music way too loud? Me too. The scenic commute, all open road and no traffic lights, gives you the best opportunity to pump yourself up before work, or wind yourself down after work. Brisbane Pet Surgery, North East Brisbane (posted 7th Apr) Senior Vet Nurse

Brisbane Pet Surgery Logo

Veterinary Nurse Required

We are a young hospital located just north of the city in Brisbane at Bowen Hills. We have grown quickly from 1 vet and 2 nurses to 5 vets and 10+ nurses and two receptionists over just 27 months.

We are in need of senior nurse. This can be an experienced senior nurse or a nurse with 2-4yrs experience who is wanting to move up to a more senior role. Moving from working/being instructed what to do, to instructing others is a big jump but is an exciting step in a career nursing pathway for many.

You will be 2IC to our hospital senior nurse, Laura who has the responsibility of overseeing everything. You will be responsible for organising the surgery schedule each day as part of that role. We perform between 10 and 16 procedures each day currently...usually 3-5 major ortho or soft tissue procedures with the remainder being dentals/desexings/lump removals, etc... Training/support is most certainly provided for those looking to move into this role, mostly internal but outside courses as well where available/suitable. We are currently a surgery focussed practice so an interest in surgical nursing is advantageous.

Our nurses get to be nurses, performing all our admits and discharges, iv catheterisations, anaesthetic monitoring and recovery, blood collection and processing, nurse vaccinations, radiology of patients. Our nurses are integral in the recovery of puppies from the many caesareans we perform. You will be involved in overseeing nurses involved in the above, training nurses as well as scrubbing in on procedures. Your responsibility will also involve handling client enquiries directly or secondarily from our reception team with questions they may have. You will also have responsibility for some of the stock ordering. This is shared between our senior staff so no one person has to carry to full load.

Our new site at Eagle Farm that we moved to at the end of Dec ’21, has two theatres, a very large prep area with three tables/anaesthetic machines, a large nursing station for cleaning/sterilizing, two separate large waiting areas for clients/patients, large staff room, separate rest area for those clients that have travelled some distance to see us, large reception area, and on-site parking for 35 cars for patients and staff….the single greatest issue at many practices.

Our hospital is currently open from 7am to 6pm Mon to Fri and Sat 8am to 2pm. The role is for a full-time position preferably. All nurses are part of our Sat roster and the Sat roster nurses/vet take the Mon off.

Please contact us via email or in person if you would like to see if this position is for you.
