Equine Reproduction Foaling Vacancy

Foaling Person for one of the UK’s leading Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer, OPU/ICSI Centre

Foaling position at one of the UK’s leading sport horse stud farms carrying out AI, embryo transfer and foalings.  In 2021 we had 95 foalings.

We are looking for a hardworking and motivational person to manage the foaling centre.  Candidates must have previous foaling experience, be organised, tidy and work well under pressure.

It is essential to be calm and confident around foals and able to cope with any situation that arises.

You will be required to carry out all yard duties supporting the Stud Manager and her team. The foaling unit has twelve boxes with CCTV, foaling alert system and the support of the stud’s on-site resident vets.

The ideal candidate will already be experienced in stud work as well as foaling. Training and support will be given.

The position is full time or seasonal from February/March until August/September and comes with single shared accommodation adjacent to the foaling unit. Sorry no horse/pets.

You will be expected to deliver excellent nursing care to complex internal medical cases. Our 24 hour emergency service provides continued care for our ECC caseload and as such, we have the facilities to perform blood transfusions and deliver intensive critical care nursing.

No sole charge, you will be working alongside one of our vets.

Shifts

Shifts: 7:30pm – 8:30am  (Monday- Friday) 5:30pm - 8:30am (Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays)
Pattern: 4 days on/ 8 days off, however we are flexible and if there is a shift pattern that you feel would work better for the service and the team we are happy to hear it!

Pay Range: £ 28,000 - £ 36,000 per year GBP

This full-time role consists of a rolling rota, where the nurses rotate around a variety of areas to include:

Our surgical caseload ranges from routine neuters and COHATs to orthopaedic, soft tissue, endoscopy, ultrasonography and referral ophthalmology. We launched our 24 hour emergency service to further expand our ECC caseload and as such, we have the facilities to perform blood transfusions and deliver intensive critical care nursing.

In terms of anaesthesia and theatre work, you will be expected to monitor anaesthesia confidently using state of the art equipment, often to patients with complex medical conditions.

We are very proud of our nurse consultations and you will be required to be passionate about engaging clients, building rapport and discussing a range of topics including preventative healthcare, behaviour, and nutrition (in house training is provided)

Previous experience is a bonus, but rest assured, you will be inducted and given full training.

Salary: 24000 - 34000 pa

Shift pattern: Rolling rota of 5 days per week, with a week spent on each shift of inpatient care/ nurse consultations, anaesthesia and surgery (including ophthalmology referral), inpatient care and surgical recoveries. Each shift is 8-9 hours long.
