Famous for its world-class scuba diving (https://pristineparadisepalau.com/), Palau is a developing island nation in the western Pacific with a population of ~20,000 people. Beautiful Palau has its main population center in Palau is the town of Koror located in Koror State.  Currently the PAWS clinic resides in Koror.  Thirteen other states are accessible from Koror, none with regular veterinary care and all with small animal overpopulation problems.  A state-run animal shelter and private veterinary clinic also exist in Koror, but they cannot meet the high spay/neuter demands of the Koror villages and outer states.  Living expenses are moderate and taxes and withholdings are approximately 19%.

PAWS is a Palau non-profit corporation, founded in 2000 (pawspalau.org).  At the start, PAWS worked independently, bringing in veterinary teams to hold spay/neuter clinics, and later worked with the government run clinic.  In January 2019 PAWS set up its own low-overhead facility to run spay/neuter clinics.  Since 2021 PAWS has had our own veterinarian, focusing primarily on low-cost spay/neuter for the local communities, including the outer islands.  Clinic equipment includes: Isoflurane anesthesia machine, new digital x-ray, vital signs monitor, orthopedic surgery equipment, Abaxis Vetscan, and HM5,   microscope, centrifuge, and autoclave.
