Te Awamatu is a town in the Waikato region of the North Island in New Zealand.

Te Awamutu means 'the river cut short', marking the end of the navigable section of the Manga-o-hoi StreamTe Awamutu is alsoknown as the ‘rose town’, for it's many elaborate rose gardens in the centre of town. It has a historical significance as Tainui Maori first settled in the general Waikato region as early as the fourteenth century. It is also the site of the Battle of Orakau.

The Waikato region itself is well known for its caves, rolling green hills and was featured in the Lord of the Rings TM movie franchise. It is also where Hobbiton TM Movie Set is located for you to visit while still being close to surf beaches and a short drive to Hamilton for some city conveniences.
