Charlestown is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie and the largest town within the City. It is approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) west-south-west of the central business district of Newcastle.
A perfect waterside escape, Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake and twice as big as Sydney Harbour. You’ll be thrilled with the many things to do and see, from water sports and bushwalking to delicious lakeside dining and the artworks of a great Australian artist.
You’ll find plenty of heritage-listed villages and charming towns around the lake, including Morisset and Toronto on the western side, Warners Bay in the northeast, and Belmont and Swansea on the eastern side. North of Warners Bay is Charlestown, the retail centre of the lake region.
