Proserpine is a charming town in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland, Australia, located about 27 kilometres inland from the coast and 1,100 kilometres north of Brisbane. Established in the late 19th century and named after the Greek goddess Persephone, Proserpine began as a centre for sugarcane production, and the industry remains a significant part of its economy today. The town is also known for the Proserpine Historical Museum and the nearby Cedar Creek Falls, a popular spot for swimming and picnicking.
The Whitsunday Region, renowned for its stunning natural beauty, stretches from the mainland to the enchanting Whitsunday Islands. Airlie Beach serves as the vibrant gateway to this region, offering a range of activities including sailing and snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, as well as access to luxurious island resorts like those on Hamilton Island and Hayman Island. Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island is famous for its pristine white silica sand and clear waters. With a tropical climate, the region enjoys warm temperatures year-round, making it a year-round destination, though the cooler dry season from May to October is particularly pleasant.
