Ipswich is approximately 40 kilometres from Brisbane CBD, at the junction of the Brisbane, Lockyer and Fassifern valleys. Due to urban sprawl it has become part of the Greater Brisbane conurbation. However it has retained municipal status along with an independent history and culture. Ipswich is a major commercial and industrial area.
