Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital, Shepparton VIC
Equine Surgeon Wanted – Come for the Colics, Stay for the Cases (and Maybe the Koalas)
Location: Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital, Victoria, Australia
Position: Equine Surgeon
We’re on the lookout for a capable, collaborative equine surgeon to join our developing team at GVEH. You’ll need to be confident managing emergency surgeries when they arise—think colics, septic joints, traumatic wounds—but that’s just one part of the bigger picture.
This role offers a varied and rewarding caseload, from thorough orthopaedic workups and elective procedures to racehorse and sport horse management—and yes, the occasional donkey. Our ideal candidate enjoys the full scope of equine surgical care and is keen to grow alongside a multidisciplinary team.
Whether you’re dreaming of a permanent move to beautiful regional Victoria, or seeking a few months of meaningful work (and a bit of adventure), we’re open-minded. Let’s find what works for both of us—and maybe, just maybe, the start of something longer-term will blossom.
Who We Are:
Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital is a multidisciplinary referral clinic, home to specialists in surgery, internal medicine, emergency & critical care, reproduction, and dentistry. We’re also a teaching hospital, hosting DVM4 rotations from the University of Melbourne, with a strong focus on fostering a rich learning environment—for students and staff alike.
What We’re Looking For:
- A veterinarian with surgical training and experience
- Confidence in handling equine emergencies independently or with minimal guidance.
- A strong interest in contributing to elective and referral cases across the full surgical spectrum.
- Bonus points for enthusiasm in orthopaedic diagnostics and lameness workups.
- A team player who values collaboration and ongoing learning.
What We Offer:
- A supportive, specialist-led environment with a culture of teamwork and education.
- A diverse caseload with plenty of opportunities to develop your skills.
- Flexibility—whether you’re looking for a short-term gig or a permanent change.
- A clinic in growth mode—meaning there’s room for your ideas, input, and ambition.
Let’s be honest—no one moves to Australia just for the colics. But if you’re ready for a new professional challenge in a place that values your expertise and your growth, this might be your perfect next chapter.
